EJS 2024 has come and gone!

Now it’s my 2nd year to go and this year with my wife.  Her first time!  It was exciting hearing her reaction to such a different environment than what we are both used to in S.E. Texas.

Smaller Cheaper 4×4 Jeep?

2016 EJS one of the concept Jeeps was a V6-powered, no-frills Jeep that looked much like a small Wrangler.  Just a foot longer than the much older jeeps.  No lockers, open open.  Rumors are that Jeep may be planning on something based on this concept for as little as $15k.  Toyota is also working on something similar, could Ford be far behind with a cheap Bronco?

This is very exciting news as it would allow more people to get a good off-road Jeep and save much over the very pricey larger Jeeps, and even much cheaper than the side-by-sides.

I wonder if Greg’s Unofficial Use Only YJ grill would fit.  Imagine a small Jeep Wrangler with square headlights.  Haven’t heard about Greg’s YJ grill for your JL/JT, head over to unofficialuseonly.com and check it out!

What do you think? Would you spend $15 for a dedicated trail rig, that you could drive on the road as well?

But I think it’s still good on the internet. I think it’s still stream it. They were just changing how they were doing the lives, right? I don’t think so. I think, well, maybe it was a broadcast thing that they were talking about, but I thought it was going away. The subscription thing was going away. But anyway, no big deal. I’m sure realtruck knows about it. I’m sure they do. All right. So EJS 2024 has come and gone. And Wendy, I know you’re sad because you and Bill were really looking forward to coming out there with the Jeep Talk Show team. We were actually planning to be there. Life changes sometimes. How’s Bill doing? Still going through the improvements? Yeah. Little bits here and there is all good. So I can’t complain. Well, you can, but it doesn’t change anything. You’re listening to me, so don’t matter.

All right. So this is my second year to go to this yearly event. And it was the first year that my wife went with me. And as I told her last year, she needed to go. I had never seen it before, but she needed to go because of all the wonderful things, all the sights, all the scenery. Yeah. The scenery that was just so incredibly different. My wife has been here in Texas since third grade and I’ve been in Texas all my life. So we definitely know what flat land looks like and a lot of green. And as far as the Gulf goes, a lot of water. So it was very different. And I told her that as we drove through Texas, which was a good cut eight, 10 hours.

It’s a week, right? Yeah, it’s a week.

So as we were driving through Texas, I said that, you know, we’re not going to, the scenery is kind of what we expect being in Texas. As we get a little bit further west, it starts changing up a bit. And then once in New Mexico, it changes up a lot a bit. And that was very interesting to see. And I told her that by halfway, it’s not so bad. Now we stopped in New Mexico to spend a night in a cabin or a house that Bill had rented and, you know, break up the trip a little bit. But the first day was 11 hours driving time. But you know, it takes a lot. Yeah, it takes longer than that because you have to make stops. But actually the stops make it better, especially. And I learned last year, and I know I’ve talked about this, I learned last year about the half tank rule.

Whenever we first did that last year with Bill and Larry, I was like a half tank. We can go at least three quarters, maybe, you know, whatever the seven eights thing is, you know, get to the last little drop. Exactly. More time on the road. That means more distance. But that half tank thing makes the trip a lot better. Yeah. You also have to get out and touch your legs and maybe pee, you know, but more than just more important. It’s like refreshing yourself. Yeah. Well, it makes you know, I wouldn’t think that sitting in a chair, a nice comfortable chair for a couple hundred miles or I guess close to 300 miles. No, no, I wouldn’t say that. Probably about 150 miles.

And then just getting up and walking around, it was like we had to remind each other about stretch your legs, you know, squeeze your legs and stuff to get the blood flowing again in those legs. Because it was hard to walk when you first got out of the Jeep. Yeah. When we do motorcycle trips, we do every hundred miles refuel. Part of it is our tanks are smaller than your guys’s, of course, but every hundred miles is about two hours and it’s just a good break and you got to get up and you got to walk around and stretch your legs and you know, do what you’re doing. So I’m glad you guys did that. Made it fun for her because she might want to now come to California. That’s the next plan, right? Good God.

What is that? 24 hours? Come on, Sissy. No, I think it wasn’t 16, I think. I think it’s 16 hours. I’m going to check that. But I think we did because I was thinking about coming to your guys’s and you know, part of town to do one of your runs, but 16 hours. It’s an overnight or somewhere. 16 hours wouldn’t be bad because Moab was 19 for us. That’s why I’m thinking it’s closer to 24, but I’ll look it up. 16 would be easy, especially if we stopped halfway.

So I’m glad you mentioned the motorcycle thing. I was telling my wife about that because we would see occasionally some motorcycles riders on the road and I was trying to remember, I think that you and Bill ride together and your dad goes, but he’s on a three wheel motorcycle. He’s on a track now. Yeah, he’s on a track. So that’s what I was telling her. And she thought, oh my God, that’s so scary and stuff. And I said, yeah, but my God, could you imagine? I mean, you really get a feel in the smells and everything. Oh, you get to see so much more than just in the vehicle. Yeah. I mean, well, we were, we had the, the G tops going up there and back so we could actually see above and below. So that was great. That would be pretty cool. We need to see through floor panels next, right? That’s it, man. You need to talk to somebody. Hey, let’s get it started.

I don’t think you want to see everything working underneath. That’d be kind of crazy. And actually it’d be pretty cool if you had to see through the, on the firewall where you could actually see where the tires were being placed. That would be actually kind of cool when you think about it, that’d be kind of neat. So we had a huge number of Jeep talk show team and listeners and some of the listeners guests that were out at EJS 2024.

And just amazing. I think the official count is 20. Let me look at this. Yeah. 22 attendees. Amazing. Oh, it is. I mean, cause it’s, it’s fun to connect with people when you go to events like this, but that many that’s just, wow. Kudos to everybody who went. I’m going to say it right now. I want to go next year. I’m hoping that’s what our plan is. And somehow we’ll get out there. Start smacking bill around now, but I’m going to go through the names of everybody that came out. And I want you to understand that the number one on this list is not your bill. It’s a different bill. It’s a team member bill. Okay. Good. Cause I was wondering. So Bill, Steve, F you Bob Dutch to Jay, Dan, Jason, Rick, rich, Carrie, Dwayne Garrett, Chuck. I don’t know if you know that Chuck went. That was kind of a surprise thing. Yeah. Yeah. Roger Jess, Mark, Jodi, Mike, Julianne, Greg, Greg Henderson of unofficial use only. My wife, Susie and me. That’s 22 people. And I think you saw this on Instagram or Facebook that we actually had a campfire. I loved it. And yeah, at Mark’s place, also known as Zabo or Zabo. He was correcting me that it’s on that one. I can’t remember exactly how it was pronounced. Anyway, Mark, the F 18 former F 18 carrier pilot, and his, his rent house had a fire pit, which we got going. They had some wood. It was really cool to sit there. And we probably had a good 20 people at that event. There was a couple of people missing, but yeah. Oh yeah. And it was really fun out there. There was a bunch of Jeeps parked at his, his place. And it really was the highlight. People were complaining about the smoke, but dammit, that’s a campfire for you. The smoke is going to follow you. Well, that’s what happens at a campfire. That’s whole purpose.

Exactly. So it was a lot of fun. I did not do any difficult trails. I did not really wheel with the majority of the group. My focus at EJS this year was to interview people, get lots of pictures. Now I will tell this story because it’s, it’s really pretty funny. My wife doesn’t think so. So my wife does not like anything that’s off camber. It doesn’t like anything that’s up high.

So that was fine. She was going to stay at home while I went out and did some wheeling. Okay. But this is good information. So when you guys come to California, make sure I don’t do a couple of trails that have that in there. I don’t remember anything that we did that was anything up high or near. No, but there are some trails that have, you know, shelf roads and yeah. Yeah. So, so wait, wait for it. So you’ve never, have you ever been to Moab?

Not on jeeping. I’ve been through with the motorcycle. Did you go to long Canyon, which is a very, we didn’t get into Moab at all. We just drove through the town of Moab and gotcha. So all that stuff. Yeah. Long Canyon is a very beautiful place to go off road and there’s nothing really to it. I mean, the, the trails are small, but they’re not as small as other shelf roads. And even the shelves, they’re not very, not very high.

So it’s a, it’s a very easy going, beautiful scenery. You have very high mountains on either side. It’s almost like a big V and you see these house size boulders on 45 degree angle mountains. You wonder why is that staying up there? Yeah. Anyway, this, yeah, this was a perfect place, a very beautiful place to take my wife and she could see all the rocks. Oh, I love that. So we took off and we were heading down. We were following Google, Google maps and I missed the turn.

Okay. Do you have a paper map yet? Did you get that from last year? Okay. And I passed the turn and we had a group of people waiting at the trailhead for us. So I kept looking. I mean, I did find a place to turn and where Google maps said to turn, but it said, no trespassing. So we couldn’t turn there. So I figured we would just continue on forward and then there was probably a loop around or something to get us past that area that was closed. Cause obviously you’re not closing a long, a long Canyon trail. Right. Of course. So we, we traveled on and we went to potash and then we were going down the trail to somewhere else and I was able to pull up a trails off road. Everything else was dead. There was no internet signal. Right. Of course.

All of Utah and trails off road. And, but there was no, nothing on there to tell me how far away we were from long Canyon, but I could see it on the map and I could see that that was the way we were traveling, but I didn’t know how far away it was. Okay. So we continued on and then my wife said, let’s turn around. I said, well, if we turn around, we have to go. And we had already gone a long ways and there was still wonderful things to see. And it was, it wasn’t anything hard to do. So we continued on and then we got to pretty close to where I thought long Canyon was. And there was a group of Jeepers there and we pulled up and she had said, actually they had passed us and she goes, we should follow them. I said, I’m not going to follow a group of Jeepers, but the, when we caught up to them, they were pulled over going to the bathroom or something. And I talked to one of the guys, the tail gunner, and I said, so we’re trying to get to long Canyon. Are we going the right way? And he says, absolutely. He goes, he goes, we’re going, going to long Canyon. You guys want to follow? And I said, sure, of course. My wife really liked that. So it’s pretty funny because we did, we would have made it to long Canyon. We had already been out there probably two hours traveling to it, which is not that far away and found out that we were going backwards. We were going to go into the, oh, from the other way, the quote unquote, there’s no, there’s no front or back to it. But going in a different way. Yeah. But on trails off road, they show markers like this is the first way point, second way point third. So we were actually going to be going to a way point seven first. All right. So this is the good part.

We’re traveling with this group of Jeeps and we can see a Jeep that looks like about an eighth of an inch big up on the side of a mountain. Okay. On a trail you can’t see. Right. Way up there.

And I said, look, look at that little Jeep up there. And she says, we’re not going up there. Are we? Hell no. I said, well, I don’t see any other way. I think we are going up there. Oh no. So Shafer, I think it’s Shafer trail, Shafer Canyon. I don’t know what it’s called, but Shafer something, um, is a, a switchback going up about 1500 to 2000 feet up the mountain. Sounds like black bear paths. Yeah. It is a single trail, uh, single Jeep wide trail. There’s a, there’s a little room there, but hopefully you’re going the right way, right? On a single trip, you’re going up. Well, there was supposed to go. There was seven of us. Uh, so I don’t know. I think it going the right way. Depends on how many Jeeps are in your group. That’s true. So we were going up and we, we made it about halfway and she thought that it was just absolutely stunningly gorgeous. And it was good, but she was scared.

Well, I don’t blame her. And telling me to move over so close to the edge. I said, because she’s, she’s on the passenger side, so she’s hanging on the side. I said, but get the camera there and get some shots. She goes, no, no. And then she, and then she starts holding the camera, you know, and looking forward, but holding the camera to the side. And I said, are you, are you seeing what you’re shooting? She goes, no, I don’t want to see it. I’ll look later. She’ll look at it later. And you, do you know that she could not watch it for a couple of days because it was too raw. It was too fresh in her memory. But imagine her, I talk about this with newbies too, you know, imagine yourself for the first time being out, you’re loving the scenery and then it changes. In other words, you’re now you’re on switchbacks and you’re on the side of a mountain and your brain does go there. You kind of think about things that can happen. Oh, absolutely. Who knows to you, Susie, for doing it. I love that. So we were, there’s quite a few switchbacks. There’s gotta be at least a five to 10, but probably seven and they’re not short. So we got up about halfway up the mountain and it started snowing.

I’m not talking sleet here. I’m talking snow. I know big fat flakes, fat flakes. And you’re like, Oh hell, what do we do? No, no, us both being from Texas, the Southeast Texas and never seeing snow. It was like, I know. You guys, could we get out? Can we play in it? I want to catch the snowflakes. And then actually because I guess because we were going to go eat and Long Canyon was so easy to drive down, according to me, she was wearing heels.

So okay.

So she, wait, she wanted to talk to me before he did the G friend. She wanted to, she wanted to get out and, uh, and look at something or the snow or something which we could actually see the snow hitting the, the G tops. She didn’t fall down. No, no, she didn’t. Uh, she would, she would start. She would still be falling if she had fallen down there.

So she’s out barefooted walking around and it’s snowing. Uh, the temperature didn’t change from what it was, but so then she runs, runs back in and gets in the Jeep and we continue on. And by the time we got to where we were going to be at Long Canyon, uh, I made the command decision just to list us, head back to Moab and get somebody to eat. So you have to go back down that way you came or you know, it was highway. So got it. The time and the group, uh, they had their radio set up with a privacy tone. Uh, but they had it set for their, their receive.

So well, they may have had it set transmitted and received, but they never could explain to me what it, what it was on, what the tone was. So I wasn’t able to talk to them, but we could listen to them and that was fine. I just couldn’t, I just couldn’t let them know that we were leaving the group and heading headed back to Moab. Uh, but anyway, they were getting ready to go into Long Canyon, uh, reverse wise. And I just said, no, we’ve, we’ve done a lot of trails. We’ve seen a lot of things today and, uh, we’re just going to go, go get something to eat. Now Friday, we did make it to Long Canyon and actually researched it before going.

So we made sure we went in the right way from front to back. And was it worth it? Oh yeah. Yeah, absolutely. And I’ll tell you this, it was less exciting for me this year because I’d already seen it, I think, but with her being there and seeing it for the first time, it really made a big difference for me because I got to experience it, uh, from a new set of eyes again, just her, her comments. And, and she had a great time. Now she did say, uh, there’s a couple of switchbacks that you have to go down to get in and out, uh, or I think it’s to go in. And anyway, she said, now this would have scared me if I hadn’t done that other trail, which she was talking about. Yeah, this is how it starts, Susie. Okay. You go like, I don’t want a wheel. Then you’re like, well, maybe just a basic road. Oh, well that’s how we have to go. Now look at her. She’s going to be getting her own Jeep following you to Moab next year and do her own trails. You watch. That would be a negatory. Good buddy. She’s not, she won’t do that. She hasn’t got that far. Hey, you don’t know. Do not say that. You know, that’s how we all start. Look at me for crying out loud. Look at me. Okay. You know, so yeah, we’ll see. That’d be really cool. Uh, but, uh, but anyway, it was really great. It was great that she was able to, to make that trail. Uh, I mean, make the Shafer trail and it was a lot of fun. I had so much fun. It was so cool to look way down there and you could see the trail that we came in on and Jeeps that looked like they were about an eighth inch big. Right. Like far away. And that’s where we were and where we were at that time and, uh, met up with another group of Jeepers, gave him a bunch of Jeep talk show stickers and, uh, a great group of guys and gals that were, they told me that they were with a group, like a club and I can’t remember what it is. So sorry guys, if you’re listening to this now, uh, but you could always contact us and we’ll, we’ll make sure we get that mentioned out in the, in the, in the future. So you can call in or email, let us know. Yep. Jeep talk show.com slash contact. So you’ve been to Moab, but you’ve never been on the trails at Moab. Never. Okay. So I hope everything works out good where you guys can come with us next year. Um, now, as I was saying, I didn’t get a chance to wheel with very many people. We did go, uh, Chuck, uh, Greg, of course, Greg’s part of a gone jeeping, uh, but, uh, Chuck, uh, Greg and I went on a gone jeeping, a run, uh, and he, and I need to research it to find out what, what the trail was, but it wasn’t, it was, they told shock. He didn’t anything, anything other than two wheel drive to go on this thing, which was a tiny, tiny lie, but, but most of it was very easy going. Um, but, uh, we were going to an old mine, an old uranium mine, and it was a really fun trail. It was a get to the end and then you had to turn around and come back. Um, I mean, we went to the mine first and then we continued on forward and there’s a place where a steamboat made it to an 1836. And, uh, there’s actually a carvings up on the rock for the, the, the guy that was on that steamboat and was there. So it was a historical trail. That’s kind of nice. And I went through right, just probably 200 feet from our destination. There is a, a very twisty 90 degree turn that you have to bake. And, uh, it is, uh, for at least for me, it was very off camber and, uh, keep in mind, this was a two wheel drive only trail. I was not aired down and I was, did not have the sway bars disconnected.

So did Susie get out and file film? Probably what I would have done. No, actually they had a film crew. They had a guy doing video and a guy doing stills with, well, I just met cause when it gets off camber, that’s when I usually bail and go, you know, I think it even takes a video of this. Nope. She, uh, actually I’m sorry, she wasn’t with me. She didn’t go on that run. I think it was because of Shafer’s trail. She stayed home the next day or so at the hotel. And she told me to put the do not disturb sign on the door. So she was going to sleep late. I think she was calming down. Still, she was just floored with how, how beautiful everything was, but it was still scary for her. So anyway, I was by myself. So anyway, I went through that, uh, that really twisty, what twisted one way, then back the other way. And, uh, I think Chuck told me, he goes, Oh, it was no problem. Your foot, your foot, your, your, uh, uh, we was only, and he shows about a couple feet off the ground.

He’s probably pulling your leg or was he for sure? No, he’s pulling your leg. He wasn’t. So, uh, I mean, you know, it’s Chuck, who knows, but I, it felt like that. It felt really, uh, like it was flopping. Anyway, what you should have done is taken your phone. Cause everybody has one of these, right? iPhone. And you can actually tell what the, how far over you were. You’re probably only 28 or what degrees 28 degrees or 30 degrees. Actually that’s built into the, the, the JT. All I have to do is pull up the angled detector thing. And did you just see what you know, I wasn’t going to sit there and punch on the thing while everybody else was going.

But I certainly, I had the only gladiator out there. So mine was the longest Jeep that was in that trail.

Wow. So anyway, made it just fine. Uh, and, uh, but while I was, while everybody was eating lunch and I was talking to everybody and talking to Chuck and found out about what he said about the, the, the tire being so far off the ground, I went, well, I’m going to disconnect the sway bars, uh, the sway bar and leaving, uh, going through the same, the same, uh, you know, twisty thing, it was nothing. It was nothing like it was going into it. Now that possibly could have been partially because I had gone through it and I was a little nervous about it. And I got through it. And also being the driver, you’re in a different position going back through. So if you were off camber and leaning with the, uh, driver side kind of tilted is a very different feeling than if you tilt this way of being the driver on this side. Well, that was the fun part of it. You, you, you go off camber both ways. Cause I know, but, but you’re, no, no, when you go in one way, you go off camber passenger and then off camber driver, and then coming out, it’s off off camber driver. They’re doing both. Okay. You both of them, depending on either way you go, you’re off camber one way or another. And I think that’s one of the reasons why it was, it was kind of like, uh, cause you know, it twists, but the gladiator did just fine. And actually I think I did it in four low the second time.

So anyway, but I never aired down the whole trip, but I didn’t do anything that was super hard now, Bill and Chuck, uh, and, uh, several other members, they, they wheeled together and they did more challenging trails than what I did, which is a little sad about because I have that nice skid plate system on there. Well, that’s why you did it. So you could go do some of those trails. But again, I was focusing on the business side of things and talking to people about the Jeep talk show. And that’s what you need to do. Just get out there and be seen. And of course it was Susie’s time too. You needed to, you know, think about your passenger, which we’re talking about for newbies too, just cause you got, you know, balls to the wall and can do anything is great, but your passengers may not be ready for it. So I’m glad that you did what you did. Yeah. And certainly not her. Now I did, she kind of forgot about it, but I did get the GoPro set up on the, uh, the dash of the gladiator. And when we, uh, I videoed and recorded audio from my special mics, the entire long Canyon, so it will be fun, uh, using the video that she shot from her phone, the dash cam video and the two GoPros that we had on each other, putting together a video of, uh, of my wife going through long Canyon and the Oohs and the ahs and stuff. So that’s going to be fun. Looking forward to that. That’s going to be a lot of editing, but I think that’s going to be a lot of fun. So you guys need to watch for that on our YouTube channel. Uh, and you go to Jeep talk show.com slash contact, and you can find the link to YouTube or just go to YouTube and do a search for Jeep talk show.

Hi, I’m Tony and welcome to the Jeep talk show, the premier show for Jeep enthusiasts and hardcore off-roaders. Whether you’re new to the Jeep world or a seasoned Jeeper, we’ve got you covered with the latest news, tips, and advice to help you get the most out of your Jeep on tonight’s episode. As you just heard us talking about EGS 2024 is complete and the 2016 Eastern Jeep Safari Jeep Jeep concept. That’ll make more sense to you here in a bit. Okay. Good. Cause it’s a, what year is it? Okay. Yeah. Well, you’ll see. So, uh, in a newbie nuggets, when he’s here to find out how Moab went, I’m sure we’re going to be talking more about that. And in the must have stuff for your Jeep, Glutread, and I’ll tell you why we’re talking about Glutread again. Did you want to do the intro, the music intro or just let me go? No, the intro is just below this.

Okay. So just take a pause and then go ahead.

Well, howdy. It’s Wendy. And today I’m just here to ask some questions.

Perfect. I mean, it’s pretty simple color commentary. That’s what you’re doing. There you go. Yeah, that’s exactly right. Are you ready? It’s time for the Jeep dog show with host Tony, Josh, Wendy, and Chuck.

All right, Wendy, uh, as, uh, as threatened, we’re going to be talking about the, uh, the 2016 Jeep concept vehicle, not all of them, just one of them. So, uh, as you can see here in our show notes, it’s a nice red. Uh, would you say that’s a Wrangler by looking at that?

Could be. Yeah. So, uh, it is what I don’t show the grill there, but it really just looks like a regular Wrangler, but this is a Jeep concept vehicle that the Jeep brought to the 2016 Easter Jeep safari. And it is a very small, very much looking Wrangler looking vehicle, but it is, it is no frills. It has, I mean, no lockers. It’s got, you know, it’s a decent four-wheel drive vehicle, kind of akin to the, the CJs or maybe even the military versions of Jeep, uh, probably a little bigger than that, but it’s a V six powered. I don’t know if it’s a three six or a three eight. Well, 2016, it was probably a three six. Uh, but, uh, so no frills, uh, very much looks like a small Wrangler. It’s just a foot longer than the much older Jeep. So no lockers open open. And rumors are that Jeep may be planning on something based like this concept for as little as $15,000.

Okay.

So this is a great base model. If you want to start with something and then what you can fab it all out yourself. Well, this is instead of the 30 to $40,000, uh, Jeeps that we’re all looking at buying that we buy now. And then put all that extra stuff on it anyway. But yeah, or just wheel it as it is because I mean, the military Jeeps didn’t have lockers. Uh, the, the first Wranglers didn’t have lockers. You could put them in there if you wanted to, which I’m sure you could probably do here, this is just a small inexpensive Wheeler. And, uh, we recently talked about this on one of the flagship episodes that Toyota is rumored to be working on something similar, maybe in the 11,000, the 15,000 other range. And you got to wonder if Jeep and Toyota are working on something like this. Again, it’s just a rumor. Could Ford be far behind with a little Bronco? You remember the, the, the really small Broncos that were really cool. Like I think mid sixties, maybe early sixties, uh, Broncos actually saw one out at the, uh, the vendor meetup, uh, for EJS. And, uh, they’re, they’re just really small, uh, very much for four wheel drive vehicles that you can do pretty much anything yet. Um, so this is going another direction. Now I don’t think this is going to be replacing the Wrangler or anything like that. I think it’s something that you could, uh, that, uh, people could, that wanted to get into off-roading something that they could afford. Uh, and, um, and you gotta, you know what the price is on side by sides are these days. I mean, they’re upwards of $80,000. Now I don’t think that’s the common price, but 50 to 60 is common. Yeah. 40, 45 to 55. And then you got to add everything else you want to. Yeah. Could you imagine if Jeep was built known as an off-road vehicle, if Jeep was making a $15,000, very good Wheeler, short and a maneuverable, just like the original Jeeps were, and you could get it for 15 K. Let’s just say it was 20 K. What’s that going to do to the side by side market?

Um, I think it was, uh, actually I was talking to Bill about this out that one of the rent houses we were staying at and telling him about this, uh, this, this story that I’d seen from a TFL, uh, on, uh, on YouTube. And, uh, he was like, he was like, wow, that would be really cool. I’d have to buy one. And he took the two door, the 2024 two door out there, uh, the JL out there for this, uh, this past Easter Jeep safari. And he took the three 92 last year. So, uh, if they come out with this before next DJS, he may be taking this one out. So you can see the picture of this just by going to the show notes for episode one, zero, one, zero four digits, Wendy can’t believe it. Uh, the 10 10, uh, just go to Jeep talk show.com and you can look up episode 10, 10 and see this picture. So, uh, I think it’s very exciting news because this isn’t going the higher and higher price, uh, like we’ve been seeing. It’s going the other way. And I think you got to do that at some point. Now, I don’t think this would necessarily, uh, hurt, uh, the, the, the, the big Jeep sales, uh, I think that it would be people like bill would see it as an opportunity, uh, to have, uh, have an off-road vehicle and then maybe have a, uh, a, um, something that wasn’t, they couldn’t still an off-road vehicle, but you could damage it and not cost as much to replace it. Exactly.

Yeah. I think that has a lot of potential for sure. So the grill on this is just like a Wrangler and the grill looks like it’s about the same size as a Wrangler. So it made me think, I wonder if Greg’s, uh, unofficial use only YJ grill would fit it because could you imagine you get one of these cheap, uh, cheap Wranglers and it very much looks like a Wrangler. And then you put a YJ grill with the square headlights on it. You would confuse the hell out of people. What is that? Is that a YJ? Where’s the, where’s the leaf Springs? This is a conversion and you know, so, uh, it’s, it’s really cool. I mean, even the wheels look cheap because they’re just painted the same color as the rest of the body. So, uh, I can see one of these things, one of these things being painted military green and you could stencil some numbers and letters onto the side.

It even looks like the windshield, uh, doesn’t have anything attached to it where you could easily fold it down. But yeah, fold it back down. Yeah. Cause that would be cool. That’s how Chuck was wheeling his, uh, CJ five. It was, he was, he was actually out there in his dad’s a CJ five. Uh, and yeah, the bill was telling me, uh, that, uh, the Chuck would go on, um, off camber things, well, in that little, that little CJ five and, uh, gas would start flowing out of it.

And he, and Bill said, Hey, Hey Chuck, you’re leaking gas. He goes, yeah, it’s okay. It’s just the seal on the cap for the gas. And when you get off camera, it was coming out, which I think I saw him post on a discord yesterday that he got a new seal. He’s fixing it. I guess cause Bill was bitching at him about it. Yeah. So it was a lot of fun. Oh, and I wanted to mention this, this doesn’t have anything to do with the smaller, cheaper four by four Jeep. But I did want to mention that we were out on the trails. We did pass other vehicles coming, you know, uh, crossing paths and nobody was showing how many people were in their group. There was no numbers. Uh, there was no middle fingers or doubles or triples or anything. So, uh, absolutely none of that went on. And my wife asked about the, the Jeep wave and she goes, do you Jeep wave when you’re EJS? I said, it was my first question last year. You do not. You do not. Cause you’re no, when it’s, yeah, there’s too many of them. Yeah. Your hand would be a sling. Your wrist. Your, your wrist would really be limp by the end of the day. Just the first day. That’s right. Just that’s it. Yeah.

All right. So what do you think? Would you spend $15,000 for a dedicated trail rig? I mean, and you could drive on the road as well. I mean, you know, you could get that Wendy’s frosty as well, which a lot of states you can’t take the side by sides out there. I just tell you guys, you know how I feel about this. I think the side by sides are just a waste of money and especially at 50 to $60,000 you do what you want to do. I’m just saying, if, if I’m taking something off road, I’d much rather it be a Jeep, even at 35 to $40,000. Yeah. So I have a question. Were you able to see any of the concept vehicles? Uh, I did go by and see the concept vehicles and I will quote an unnamed source. What’s the point?

Well, you know, I got to see, was it, uh, somebody did a video on it. Was it gone Jeep? And I think that a video on it, there was a gone Jeep. It was actually a part of the, the Jeep unfailing. Yeah. So he was, you know, kind of going through the pieces and I’m like, okay, fast forward next fast forward. It was kind of sad. I have to tell you, it wasn’t anything that jumped out at me. No, no, there really wasn’t. I went and saw them. I actually was, uh, I think it was on Friday, 15 minutes before they were closing. And I don’t think they were out there Saturday, uh, but it was at the same parking lot, uh, same store parking lot that it was last year. Uh, it was good to see them. I was glad to see them, but there was no, like the, the scrambler for last year. It was just really, really cool. All several of them were just really, really cool. Uh, this year, it looks like they, they spent money on doing paint jobs and maybe some, some logos and graphics. I saw that in trying to do sort of a retro look of things that that teal color was kind of interesting. It was. I thought that looked nice. That was on the grand Wagoneer, I believe. And I have pictures of that. And it had a, had a wood, uh, like a wood grain, like a woody kind of a look, you know, it’s like, okay, what are they trying to do there? But I don’t know. I just, nothing was exciting. So I will say this though, uh, you know, Stellantis chose not to go to several, uh, events in 2023. So there was a question, at least in my mind, if they were going to be at EJS 2024, which you would think they would almost have to be, but yeah, companies can make any decision they want to do. So I thought it was great that they actually had Jeep concept vehicles and they were out there and they were involving the media. Uh, Liam from gone jeeping, uh, was, uh, was invited to that event from, uh, from gone jeeping and, uh, I actually have some video. I told you about that trail that we went on and the carving up on the rocks. Well, Liam crawled his ass up there and was sitting on one of the blocks, uh, taking video of us from a pond high. It probably was 50, 70 feet up. And he walked over there to where the carving was done. And I got shots of the, of the carving, uh, also to, and it took about 20 minutes before Greg Henderson climbed his ass up there, cause I guess, because Liam went, he had to go to, but it, but it was a lot of fun. Oh, and I got to mention this. So I finally got to see, uh, the, the build that Greg did, I think it was also 2016 SEMA path killer. So he was actually driving path killer. The owner wanted him to take it out there to EJS. And I actually got to see that firsthand. And if you don’t, if you guys don’t recall path killer is a JK, which I think it was a 2016 JK and basically Greg grafted an XJ on the front of it. So it had the XJ nose and the fenders and the hood. Uh, and it was, it’s so well done that it took me a while to figure out why I liked it and what was, what was different about it. Cause it just looks like a JK, but something didn’t look. Yeah. Something’s different. I don’t want to say it didn’t look right. It looked good, but it just didn’t, it didn’t, something about it was, was off. That it was different. And I finally figured out it was the XJ and actually Greg, uh, has had several builds that he’s wanted to do using the XJ front, uh, and he’s been overridden a couple of times, mainly because the company he was building it for didn’t sell XJ stuff.

And then there’s that. Yeah. Yeah. The whole, the whole profit thing. So, but it was a lot of fun. It was good to, uh, to see Greg again. He did try to, uh, uh, twist my nipple again and I slapped his hand away. Good. He got in there for, he did it good for you.

I think he was surprised. I was so fast. Yeah. You should like not happen again. He got once from me. That’s the other time. All right. So, you know, if you want to get more out of your weekend, you got to get more out of your truck, uh, storage for your tools, cover from the elements and protection that stands up under pressure, whether it’s a little DIY or your next big project, we say, bring it. To the backyard, to the barnyard, to everything you can throw at it and everything that stands for it stands in its way, because it’s not about getting the job done. It’s about getting the job done. Right. Real truck, bring your truck to life. Hey, and give your take on this page, realtruck.com slash block slash real truck presents running the Rubicon. Of course you can see this link in episode 10, 10 show notes. Uh, just go to Jeep talk show.com. And you can also, uh, get a full episode in case you don’t have, um, M T plus, which is motor trend plus.

All right. So, uh, I know you don’t have a formal newbie nuggets for us tonight, but did you have anything you wanted to update us on or talk about? No, I’m changing. Um, looks like I have, I’m throwing codes, engine codes, of course. Yeah. And of course in California, you got to have, you can’t have an engine check engine light code or in check engine light on when you let it go get smog done. So, you know, it’s like when it rains, it pours. So how does it know when it’s time to go get that done? And then the codes start coming up. Yeah. I, I’m, I would become a conspiracy theorist if I came up with the answer for you on that one, but anyway, look for those, look for those, uh, boxes that don’t come with Jeeps that say California on them. That’s right. Yeah. Uh, anyway, so, um, we looked at all the codes, tried to clear them a couple of times, drove the Jeep, seemed to be cleared, get back in the Jeep. Here comes the dam, you know, and check engine light again. So, um, we’re going to start with changing a cam sensor. Um, and that should be fairly easy to do. And we’re hoping it’ll clear all the codes cause I just want to get out and wheel again, but of course we’ve got, you know, snow this past weekend. We got, uh, two, uh, almost two feet. It’s fricking March people, the end of March. So, you know, for us in California, that’s not a good thing. It’s like, what, the only benefit is it’s going to melt quick, right? It’s not going to be here for winter. So, and then the following weekend when this airs, uh, let’s see, this’ll be, this is Tuesday, but that next weekend coming up as more snow. And I’m like, it’s April. Does it not know it’s winter? Yes. I’m just like, what is normal? Uh, and I know normal is that this depends, but what is normal for us? Usually we’re done by beginning of March. As far as snow is concerned, there may be a light storm that comes in and you get a little dusting and you know, you, they always joke about here, don’t plant anything before mother’s day, because usually around mother’s day, which is May, we get a light dusting and we’re talking no big deal because the ground is already warm and it’s not going to stick. This is crazy. It’s like every weekend we’ve had, you know, threat of weather, rain, wind, and, or snow in this lab this past weekend, it was yeah, foot to two feet. So higher elevations, the ski slopes and all that got several feet, so good for them, you know, I’m done. I guess the skiers really like it, right? I think so. I don’t ski, so I’m good, but I just, I mean, like right now, gold mountain, the backside is so icy, you, you can’t do it. And John Bull forget it. I’ve seen videos. People can’t even get up the gatekeeper. It’s that deep over there. So, you know, yes. Could somebody probably get through? Yeah. If you know what you’re doing and know your line and you’ve been on that, you know, trail, but it’s buried in snow. So you don’t have traction. It’s just, it’s a nightmare. So for us, it’s like, well, we want a wheel, you know, so I just, I want the to warm up, it’s been in the low thirties high twenties. I’m done moving to Texas here soon. Tony needs some heat. And I think you, you saw the video that we put up where we were in the, the, we had pulled off on the side of the road on our way to Des Moines. I’ve been, there was this snow everywhere and that it was, it was that big, big fat snow. That was New Mexico. And I remember Bill asking us which way we went and I told him, I said, I don’t know, whatever the GPS said, I said, we did, we did pass a sign that said 7,000 feet. So he goes, oh, he goes, oh yeah. That’s, that’s the reason why you’re getting snow.

But we, we loved it. And there was snow everywhere. I mean, it was neat too, because we could see the snow as we were driving, see it coming up. And, uh, I always look at it from like Star Wars for jumping into hyperspace. When you’re driving and that snow’s coming down, it comes at you. That’s what it reminds me of. I feel like I’m, we could see something like a fog. It looked like fog, uh, that was coming up and he’s like, okay, well that, I think that’s more snow. I mean, we’ve seen rain, like, uh, columns of rain off in the distance, but it looked different than that. It almost looked like a fog and then you’d, you’d run into it and it would be sleet and then it would be snow, big fat flakes. And we were just giggling like a schoolgirls, me included. Well, and you should, because that’s part of what, what traveling is all about. Yeah. See different weather and different segments. Yeah. And honestly, it is beautiful when the snow is up here and the way this snow is pretty heavy this past weekend, it’s stuck in the trees. So it’s got this heavy kind of, you know, putting it around all the different, you know, pine needles and all that stuff in the pine trees. It’s gorgeous. I mean, I will tell you that, but it is heavy and it’s hard to shovel it and you got to do it and it’s crazy. So I’m ready for spring officially and summer. Yeah. Susie kept saying, Oh, Christmas trees, Christmas trees. It looks like Christmas trees. It does. Yeah. I think people pay to have their trees flocked with the white fake stuff on it. That’s kind of where they get the idea from. Yeah. I remember my dad doing that one year out in the garage. That was, that was pretty cool. Watching that. Yeah. So anyway, I’m hoping the cam sensor removes that darn check engine light. Then I can get the stupid things smogged and then I can put my 37s back on and go out and wheel. So you mentioned Texas. I’ll just mention to you that it starting 2025, we do, do not have any longer have

inspections on vehicles. We, we will have to have the tailpipe emissions checked, but I don’t think it’s going to be anything other than just stick the thing to sniffer in there. And you know, you can even, yeah, you can even have problems with your vehicle and still, at least in Texas, still be compliant with the, the emissions. Yeah. If there’s even a, if there’s a check engine light, like my check engine light is for ABS and a couple, it’s not, it’s nothing to do with the emissions. That’s nothing to do with that. It’s just some weird stuff going on. Um, it doesn’t affect that, but the California States, if there’s a check engine light, they will not do the test. From the mind of Nikki G. Hey, this is Nikki G. And, uh, Easter Jeep safari is going on in Moab, Utah right now. And I wish everybody who attend there safe travels, uh, which I can go. But as you know, I drive a next day. So if I want to make it to the Easter Jeep safari, I’d have to leave North Carolina at around St. Patrick’s day, shake rattling roll. It takes on a whole new meaning when you’re driving an XJ.

Well, that’s not why I’m calling. I’m calling to tell you that one time in Utah, they decided to have a, uh, nativity scene during Christmas. Yeah, but they had to cancel it because they couldn’t find three wise men in a virgin.

All right, boys and girls, I’ll chat you later and have a good one. Bye.

Okay. We’re a little off on the timing of this, uh, but, but, but, but, but, but but, but I believe this is a new, uh, new one for Nikki G. Uh, it’s just, uh, a couple of days after EJS. So it was close. It was close enough. Yeah. Good job. It’s still funny. It doesn’t matter if it’s, uh, if it’s on time or not. No.

All right. So in our upcoming interview for this Friday, and I’ll remind everybody, every Friday is a new, uh, interview episode. So if you like our interview episode, you want to make sure that you, uh, tune in, so to speak on Fridays. So, uh, this Friday we’re going to be talking with Allison of, uh, you know, ducking Jeep, so you can actually, they actually have a new website, official ducking Jeeps.com. And I can’t remember if it was on the interview or not, but I’ll, I’ll tell you, uh, you know, Allison had her hand injured, uh, her right hand injured, a dog bit her at a Jeep event. And, uh, she is still having problems with that hand and it’s keeping her from going to places like EJS. And, uh, I was talking to her and of course she’s in Canada. She is a Canadian. I think she’s got dual citizenship, but she’s in Canada. So she gets the benefit of the, uh, the healthcare for everybody.

So she is on a two year wait to have her hand operated on. But then it could already grow into weird. The what? So she literally has inside her hand, a hole in the muscle and stuff that needs to be repaired and I guess they have deemed it that is, is not critical enough to be able to push her into, you know, a head of the however, and there’s not that there’s many people in, uh, Canadian as there is in the U S. So, uh, I keep telling you people, if you want the government to run our healthcare, remember your last trip to the DMV.

Exactly. You really want the government in control of your healthcare. Oh, gosh. If they want to do something to bring the cost down, I think that would be a good thing if, if, if they want to bring the cost down because they want all the money flowing through them, then not such a good thing. Uh, so, uh, yeah, and this is a common thing. I’m not trying to get political here, but I’m just telling you, uh, you can bitch about our medical, uh, health system, how much it costs and stuff. Uh, and that all is true, but you’re probably not waiting two years to get your hand fixed. She can’t sign autographs. She can’t sign ducks. Well, she, and it might be permanent damage by the time two years comes to you because the body’s going to try to heal itself regardless. Well, you, well, it’s like a bone. If a, I think it is anyway, it’s like a bone, a bone, a break, a broken bone can heal itself and then if they, they go in, uh, they’ll re break it so they can set it properly. So she could be another two years afterwards is for the recovery. Good Lord. Oh, I feel so bad for her. All right. So in our must have stuff for your Jeep glue tread four by four, a sidewall emergency tire repair kit. This is not to be used for on road. This is the, this is to repair your tire sod up. Well, uh, I know what you have to say. Yes. This is the repair your sidewall damage so you can continue on your, on your wheeling trip off road and so on and so forth. So I bring this up because, uh, on that gone jeeping, uh, trip, the little trail that we did, there were several rocks along the trail. Again, two wheel drive trail, but there were several rocks along the trail that if you did not get your vehicle in the right position, it was perfect for just ripping the hell out of your sidewall. Yeah. To puncture the sidewall. And when we got done with the trail and we came back out and we were all collecting together, uh, with the gone jeeping crew, I looked down at Chuck’s tire on his CJ five and I went, what’s that white spot? And he says, he looked down and he was messing with it. There was a tire flap, a piece of, uh, rubber that the flap that had torn away from the sidewall. And I remember, um, I needed to leave because the, the, the, oh, and I got the kid Lord, no, Wendy, they had a, uh, the Wednesday, uh, um, sunset grill thing. Uh, it was, uh, several manufacturers, Northridge four by four, being one of them. Uh, you go up there, you meet people and you get free food. It was, it was prime rib. Was it packed with people? I missed the prime rib last year. Oh, so you got, you got this year. I got it this year. And oh my God, it was great.

Uh, and it was so good. I didn’t get my prime rib and half a Susie’s. I only had about a quarter of Susie’s cause she’s like, you’re not getting mine. Well, she was really enjoyed it too, but it was, it was asparagus, which was wonderful. It wasn’t overcooked. It was crunchy and flavorful. Uh, the primary rib was wonderful. Uh, bash potatoes and gravy. And there was something else on there. Oh, some sort of really fluffy rice, but it was just absolutely outstanding. If you guys are in Moab, maybe you go when it’s not EJS, go to sunset grill and get some food. Uh, it’s a beautiful overlook. It’s very high on the hill. There used to be somebody’s house that was sold. And now it’s a place, uh, that you can go to have meals or get togethers like this. I saw Brad, uh, from a trail recon up there. Yeah. I talked to him a little bit and saw Steve from power tank up there. And I think Steve had been drinking a little bit because I walked over there. If you Bob was already talking to him, it was a Steven, I believe his son, uh, we’re talking to Bob and I walked over there. He saw me smile real big, put his hand out for a shake. I was shaking his hands and I said, Steve, I’ve got excess gas. How can I make a profit on this?

What can I do to make a living on this? And he thought that was the funniest thing he ever heard. And he said, he was going to, they said he was going to use it. And then I was like, Oh yeah, he’s drinking. He thought that was really fun.

And also too, I had already met, uh, Dan, uh, with moto belt and a bender with moto belt at the, the get together. They had a grandpa’s garage on Tuesday, saw them again out there. And I was there with Zabo, Susie and I were there with Zabo and, uh, and Zabo’s wife and here comes Dan and a bender walking by and I went Dan black and you know, I’ve known him for 50 years. Like, hey, we’re buds. And I said, Hey, this guy loves motor belt products. He wants to talk to you. And they stood there and talked to, uh, to Zabo for a long time. Nice. It’s so, whenever I told him how great I thought the motor belt products were, they just get grins on their face and they’re so happy to hear it. And they were doing the exact same thing with Zabo. So it was, it was really neat, uh, for the Jeep talk show to be able to make that connection between a motor belt fan and the owner and one of the critical members of the team. So that’s great. It was really wonderful. Anyway. So the, the, the getting back to the damn point, uh, we, you can just tell that was a lot of fun. Oh, and by the way, this is, this is probably all we’re going to talk about on the round table meeting. So this Wednesday episode is going to, I’m sure it’s going to be all Yeah. Cause they’re all going to be on it. Yeah. Those are ready who went to have experience and talk and share. Exactly. So if Chuck had had glue tread four four by four sidewall emergency tread, entire repair kit, he wouldn’t have been asking everybody, you got any rubber steam in it, you got any glue? Cause he wanted to glue that flap down. Uh, and then you could do that, but actually putting the full patch on there would have been the right way to go. So, uh, as far as I know, nobody had one, uh, available. Uh, I had not bought one before I went and, uh, I, well, nothing gets Chuck, but I was watching where I was going in my full size Jeep, got that skinny little thing he was driving and I didn’t get any sidewall damage. So I’m just saying, so pay attention, Chuck pay attention. Yeah. I know what he’s saying. Extent the life of your tire repair existing tire by repairing slices or punctures in your off-road tire. Uh, glue tread products are more cost-effective than buying a brand new tire. Oh, certainly that’s true. Uh, and you can always just take that tire off once you get off the trail, put on your spare and now you’re good to go on road and you have a spare so that you can put on if you need to, uh, for your next trail ride.

So we do have a link, uh, to this, uh, the glue tread product in our notes. Uh, the link is to Amazon, uh, where I think this is, uh, it’s a 59 95 and it’s, it’s not one patch. It’s several patches and it has the glue, the accelerator, uh, everything you need.
