[00:03:21:16 – 00:03:25:06]
This is big Jim 350 and I

[00:03:25:06 – 00:03:27:25]
love XJTalk.com

[00:03:27:25 – 00:03:32:29]
XJTalk.com It’s where you go when you’re not off road

[00:03:32:29 – 00:03:34:25]
At least I hope that’s where you want to go

[00:03:34:25 – 00:03:44:01]
I mean there’s lots of good Jeep websites out there But, you know, XJTalk.com is a little unusual Maybe even a little strange

[00:03:44:01 – 00:03:46:18]
But you know the people that are there, they seem to like it So,

[00:03:46:18 – 00:03:51:22]
I’m not getting any complaints So, I guess that’s always a good sign

[00:03:51:22 – 00:03:57:23]
So anyway, last episode I was telling you about a potential

[00:03:57:23 – 00:04:04:27]
Blown head gasket on the new, or new to us, 99 Jeep Cherokee

[00:04:04:27 – 00:04:07:01]
And, you know, I don’t know

[00:04:08:03 – 00:04:10:22]
I have a tendency to think that it probably is

[00:04:10:22 – 00:04:12:22]
But

[00:04:12:22 – 00:04:24:14]
I really haven’t had any problems with it Overheating, it runs a little hot It doesn’t run overly hot It kind of acts like the 98’s acting Which I think I mentioned on last show

[00:04:24:14 – 00:04:28:27]
Let’s see, Wayne’s checked in Can tab 27

[00:04:28:27 – 00:04:33:11]
Greetings Wayne Greetings from the United States of America

[00:04:33:11 – 00:04:37:24]
The land where, well, at least most of the land that doesn’t shake

[00:04:37:24 – 00:04:47:02]
Wayne is in New Zealand He’s been an interviewee on XJTalk a few times And also a moderator on XJTalk.com

[00:04:47:02 – 00:04:50:10]
If you’re curious at all about what’s going on in New Zealand

[00:04:50:10 – 00:05:02:17]
And all those rattles and shakes they’ve been having You can get on XJTalk.com And Wayne will tell you all about the sad, sordid details of it

[00:05:02:17 – 00:05:03:21]
And

[00:05:03:21 – 00:05:06:08]
he’ll also add it’s not easy being green

[00:05:06:08 – 00:05:09:15]
And he’s not talking about being

[00:05:09:15 – 00:05:10:01]
eco-friendly

[00:05:10:01 – 00:05:14:26]
When he says that, he has a green jeep And right now he says paint them green

[00:05:14:26 – 00:05:16:16]
You can’t paint them green

[00:05:16:16 – 00:05:19:23]
Some of them have to have color Some of them have to have pizzazz

[00:05:19:23 – 00:05:21:00]
Like red

[00:05:21:00 – 00:05:23:25]
You know, blue is even pizzazzi, or it can be

[00:05:23:25 – 00:05:26:00]
So anyway,

[00:05:26:00 – 00:05:29:17]
if you’ve seen any of the posts on XJTalk.com About the

[00:05:29:17 – 00:05:39:27]
potential head gasket leak on the 99 There’s a video that I shot with my handy dandy cell phone Showing bubbles coming out of the

[00:05:39:27 – 00:05:41:24]
radiator

[00:05:43:04 – 00:05:44:19]
You know, I don’t know

[00:05:44:19 – 00:05:46:04]
to me I’ve

[00:05:46:04 – 00:05:49:19]
never really seen a head gasket problem on a jeep So

[00:05:49:19 – 00:05:52:06]
to me, it’s from what I’ve read and what I’ve heard

[00:05:53:27 – 00:06:03:10]
That’s kind of a classic sign So I’ll probably tear it down and get into it But for right now, it’s able to be driven I’ll probably drive it to

[00:06:03:10 – 00:06:05:25]
work here in the next week or so

[00:06:05:25 – 00:06:07:27]
Just to see if it’s good for

[00:06:07:27 – 00:06:16:11]
a good 20-20 mile one-way trip 40 mile round trip during the day And here in summertime when it’s hot

[00:06:16:11 – 00:06:26:15]
I recently installed the B&M Transmission temperature gauge on my 98 Jeep Cherokee

[00:06:26:15 – 00:06:29:13]
And AW4 transmission line

[00:06:29:13 – 00:06:33:08]
And I had a decision to make whether I was going to put it on the

[00:06:33:08 – 00:06:34:17]
The output

[00:06:34:17 – 00:06:52:19]
that takes the fluid that leaves the transmission Which would be hot, or hotter than hopefully, when it returns Because it goes out of the transmission, goes to the radiator And since I have the towing package on the 98 It goes into a factory transmission cooler

[00:06:52:19 – 00:06:53:28]
And then comes back

[00:06:53:28 – 00:06:56:28]
to the transmission Hopefully cooler than when it left

[00:06:56:28 – 00:06:59:07]
So there’s a bit of a

[00:06:59:07 – 00:07:10:03]
discussion about whether the line Of the sensor for the temperature gauge should be on the output The hotter side of the transmission fluid

[00:07:10:03 – 00:07:14:22]
Or the input, or the return, which would be the cooler side

[00:07:14:22 – 00:07:19:29]
And it seemed to be that most people, and from what I read online Most people like to put it on the

[00:07:19:29 – 00:07:28:11]
output The hotter side, because if there’s a problem with the transmission Getting too hot, they’d like to see it before

[00:07:30:08 – 00:07:36:25]
Before the cooling system masks the temperature rather than later So

[00:07:36:25 – 00:07:54:26]
that’s what I did, and I was a little afraid that it was going to take Hours and hours and hours to put that thing on And it was, but it wasn’t for hooking up the sensor The sensor was very straightforward and simple In fact, I even sped the process along a little bit By using a Dremel tool and a cut-off wheel on the Dremel tool

[00:07:54:26 – 00:08:04:07]
And sliced right through that transmission fluid line Very easily and quite quickly Like, under a minute, I’m sure

[00:08:04:07 – 00:08:12:05]
And put the pressure fittings and the Teflon tape And a very nice kit, went together just fine The next

[00:08:12:05 – 00:08:17:14]
five hours, because it probably took me 30 minutes to put the sensor on the line

[00:08:17:14 – 00:08:20:26]
The next five hours that I spent was

[00:08:20:26 – 00:08:22:17]
sweating my

[00:08:22:17 – 00:08:23:20]
off for one thing

[00:08:23:20 – 00:08:34:05]
I mean, literally, I had soaked two t-shirts I’m just not used to being out in the heat I work with computers, I’m in a cubicle all day

[00:08:35:02 – 00:08:44:25]
So I sweat bad before, but I’m definitely not used to the heat So anyway, that takes a lot out of you when you sweat that much too

[00:08:44:25 – 00:08:48:14]
for the next five hours, I was finding a

[00:08:48:14 – 00:08:53:11]
place to wire up the gauge It’s electrical, it needs power

[00:08:53:11 – 00:09:01:22]
So I had to run the wire coming up from the sensor And run it into the dash, which that was pretty easy and pretty straightforward But I had to remove the dash

[00:09:01:22 – 00:09:18:02]
And since I had removed the dash, earlier in the week I had gone to visit my sick aunt in the hospital And during the drive over there, I was adjusting the tilt steering And the little lever just kind of went limp And I couldn’t move the steering wheel

[00:09:18:02 – 00:09:21:23]
So fortunately, I had a spare

[00:09:21:23 – 00:09:33:08]
steering column that Matt had given me off of a 2001 XJ And I was able to see how that was hooked up And it’s just a little cable

[00:09:33:08 – 00:09:49:21]
with a couple of little cylinder-like ends crimped onto either end of it And it goes into the two mechanisms And one mechanism releases the tilt so it can be moved up and down And the other mechanism is the little lever that you pull to release the

[00:09:49:21 – 00:09:51:07]
lock on the tilt

[00:09:51:07 – 00:10:01:13]
So I was actually able to not only see how it went together But used that cable off the 2001 steering column to replace the broken one on the 98

[00:10:01:13 – 00:10:12:29]
Took a little bit of getting that thing out of there Fortunately again, I had the steering column that wasn’t in the vehicle That I could actually see how to get that cable out and get it back in

[00:10:12:29 – 00:10:38:10]
So I probably spent 30 minutes on that at least, maybe a little longer But at least 30 minutes in the 98, in the awkward position of trying to get up underneath the dash to replace that little cable Replaced it, and then I went ahead and not wanting to lose the cable that was broken Because really all that happened was that the cable slid out of that little cylinder that it was crimped on on the end

[00:10:38:10 – 00:10:51:03]
So I didn’t really want to lose that and I thought maybe I could re-crimp it So I ran a little, well I think it was a 1 16th inch drill bit through that little cylinder To clear out any crimp that was already there

[00:10:51:03 – 00:11:10:09]
and slid the cable back in The cable didn’t even break, it was just as long as it was before But I slid the cable back in and then with the vice that I had on my bench I crimped it And I put it, so I wouldn’t lose it, I put it back in the 2001 tilt steering wheel

[00:11:10:09 – 00:11:17:29]
So now I’ve got a spare, I didn’t really want to use that one because if it came apart once it might come apart again

[00:11:17:29 – 00:11:24:11]
But at least in a pinch I could re-do that, swap that other one in there that I repaired

[00:11:24:11 – 00:11:33:25]
Anyway, so while I was there I found, you know it was pretty easy to find the 12 volts that I needed to run the meter

[00:11:33:25 – 00:11:40:00]
And I was not planning on hooking up the little light that’s in the meter

[00:11:40:00 – 00:12:04:10]
thought man I’m going to do this later, I’m just too sweaty and I’m getting too tired messing with this And then I got to thinking about it and I thought well this is stupid I’ve got this whole thing apart, I’ve got the whole dash underneath the steering column off there And all the screws underneath are out, there’s plates off, the metal plate that’s behind the plastic That you know basically snaps onto the metal, that’s out of the way It’s all right there,

[00:12:04:10 – 00:12:11:29]
take the time to find the 12 volts that goes on and off with the light switch

[00:12:11:29 – 00:12:13:27]
I was a little lucky because I have a

[00:12:13:27 – 00:12:19:20]
aftermarket alarm system that I installed from one of our past advertisers

[00:12:20:19 – 00:12:23:02]
Very nice alarm system,

[00:12:23:02 – 00:12:28:20]
commando, it’s not a name brand thing but it’s really neat It has a remote start and

[00:12:28:20 – 00:12:45:04]
motion detector and all kinds of goodies But anyway, so I knew where several of the things were but that alarm system doesn’t need to know Or doesn’t need to control the lights on the

[00:12:45:04 – 00:12:47:01]
cluster

[00:12:47:01 – 00:12:49:18]
And that’s what I needed to come on,

[00:12:49:18 – 00:12:53:12]
that’s the light that I needed to come on the meter I needed to come on when the cluster comes on

[00:12:53:12 – 00:13:00:25]
So I got my little digital volt meter and started

[00:13:00:25 – 00:13:05:13]
poking the wires There’s a point on the probe and I was actually able to penetrate the,

[00:13:07:20 – 00:13:15:12]
not shielding the little plastic covering, the insulation on each wire And then once I’d find a wire that had 12 volts I could turn the

[00:13:17:02 – 00:13:26:24]
cluster lights off to see if that was the one And that took a little while, that’s a little irritating having to go through wires and trying to find the right ones Especially when you have to

[00:13:26:24 – 00:13:57:28]
take your hand off the probe, put the probe down, turn the light switch off, put the probe back up in the same place And wonder, am I still getting a good reading through this cable And then put it down, turn the light back on, put it back And so it would have been a little handier, maybe if I’d had, I’m sure they sell something that you can actually put on the wire And it will hold it on there so that you can just check it faster that way and actually verify that

[00:13:57:28 – 00:14:09:19]
the voltage is going on and off as you switch it But anyway, I finally did find the proper wire Well actually I don’t know if it’s the proper wire or not, but it’s a wire that does

[00:14:09:19 – 00:14:14:06]
have the 12 volts on and off with the switch

[00:14:14:06 – 00:14:28:06]
And I did find later, I didn’t even think about it until I had hooked it up I wonder if it will dim, if the light on the B&M transmission temperature gauge will dim And it does, so I think I did get the right cable, the right wire, the right line

[00:14:28:06 – 00:14:37:04]
So that’s hooked up, and there really is no good place, no good vision wise place

[00:14:37:04 – 00:14:53:18]
to put this 2 inch gauge in the Jeep At least not in my 98 and at least not in my estimation I thought one of the really cool places was right in front, the little plastic that’s right in front of the handle for the 4-wheel drive

[00:14:53:18 – 00:15:07:06]
But as I suspected, the lever will actually cover part of that gauge And I don’t like that, it doesn’t look like a very professional installation to me It doesn’t look like it’s very well thought out

[00:15:07:29 – 00:15:13:18]
Another person that I had read about doing this installation had mounted on the side of the console

[00:15:13:18 – 00:15:27:29]
On the passenger side of the console, and that was very visible to the driver And you would have to look down to the side, but it’s transmission temperature So you shouldn’t be going 100 miles an hour and needing to look over there to see what the transmission temperature is

[00:15:27:29 – 00:15:38:23]
So that’s acceptable, the only thing is that I know from experience with my older cell My Gooseneck cell phone holder there, that even that thing that’s kind of been out of the way

[00:15:38:23 – 00:15:41:24]
Still gets hit by people’s knees

[00:15:41:24 – 00:15:52:23]
And I couldn’t help but think that that gauge mounted to the side of the center console Up there in front of the passenger seat in a little ways, is going to be in the way of a passenger

[00:15:52:23 – 00:15:54:10]
So I didn’t want to put it there

[00:15:54:10 – 00:16:19:27]
And I had pretty much already ruled out putting in the three gauge A-pillar mount that I had bought Because I didn’t think it had a proper angle on it, I thought the gauges might be It seemed to me that it was really something that you would put on a vehicle that had a windshield that had more of a slope to it So that the gauges would be more facing towards you, I was concerned that they would be facing up too high

[00:16:19:27 – 00:16:22:13]
But I tried the A-pillar gauge

[00:16:25:27 – 00:16:39:28]
Oh it’s a pod, that’s right, that’s what it’s called I tried the pod in there just to see how it would look, and it looked acceptable I mean there’s a little bit of an angle to it, but not so much that you can’t read the gauges And not so much where it looks goofy

[00:16:39:28 – 00:16:50:15]
So I went ahead and went that route And now the only problem that I have with it is I’ve got one gauge and two empty holes

[00:16:51:19 – 00:16:52:06]
So

[00:16:52:06 – 00:17:09:25]
I went ahead and ordered a vacuum gauge And this was actually a post that I put up several months ago about what three gauges would you select A post on xjtalk.com What three gauges would you select if you had a A-pillar three gauge pod

[00:17:09:25 – 00:17:17:12]
And I knew I was going to have a transmission temperature gauge in there, but what are the others And some people said oil temperature,

[00:17:17:12 – 00:17:21:12]
which I guess is okay If I know what the coolant temperature is,

[00:17:21:12 – 00:17:35:06]
then I have a pretty good idea what the oil temperature is I feel I may be wrong on that, I’ve never measured the oil temperature And I don’t understand how critical or why that would be critical

[00:17:35:06 – 00:17:42:18]
course there’s some people that would say there’s no reason to measure the transmission temperature either I mean if you take an IR

[00:17:42:18 – 00:17:46:05]
temperature sensor and put it on there you can have a pretty good idea

[00:17:46:05 – 00:17:59:02]
Well I’m thinking about taking the transmission lines off of the radiator to help my highway heat creep problem And I wanted to know what the temperature was of the transmission because I don’t want to

[00:17:59:02 – 00:18:09:23]
tear up my transmission in the process Even though I’ve been told by several people that an additional aftermarket

[00:18:09:23 – 00:18:12:20]
transmission cooler is more than enough to keep the transmission cool

[00:18:12:20 – 00:18:19:27]
Now I will know with the transmission fluid temperature gauge

[00:18:19:27 – 00:18:22:17]
So anyway I ordered two more gauges today

[00:18:22:17 – 00:18:23:27]
ordered the

[00:18:23:27 – 00:18:26:06]
VIA air

[00:18:26:06 – 00:18:27:18]
pressure gauge

[00:18:27:18 – 00:18:31:09]
and I ordered a vacuum gauge

[00:18:31:09 – 00:18:38:20]
Because the engine vacuum will tell me it’s a real good thing to know as far as fuel economy

[00:18:38:20 – 00:18:55:09]
It also gives you a good idea about the performance of the engine and how things are going with it You know because you get used to seeing what the engine vacuum is as you drive it day to day or on the highway and

[00:18:55:09 – 00:19:00:04]
so on and so forth So you have a good idea, a good feel for the vacuum of the engine

[00:19:00:04 – 00:19:22:09]
And also too as long as you keep the vacuum high that means that the throttle body isn’t wide open And letting the air pressure go low and if the throttle body is not wide open that means you’re not dumping a lot of fuel into the intake So it’s an economy thing, you can drive

[00:19:22:09 – 00:19:26:17]
more economic by watching the vacuum,

[00:19:26:17 – 00:19:28:02]
the engine vacuum

[00:19:28:02 – 00:19:43:12]
So now the air pressure gauge is kind of going to just be a filler for now because what I’m planning on doing with it I figured this would be a really neat idea since I don’t want to go and spend money for an air compressor right now

[00:19:43:12 – 00:19:47:19]
I can go ahead and get one of those VIA air 2.5 gallon tanks

[00:19:47:19 – 00:19:56:15]
and mount it towards the rear of the jeep on driver’s side

[00:19:56:15 – 00:19:58:25]
past the transfer case There’s a spot right there

[00:19:58:25 – 00:20:01:23]
that that particular tank will fit

[00:20:02:24 – 00:20:14:26]
underneath, or I’m sorry the unibody will stick down below that tank So it will kind of protect it and it fits behind the transfer case, there’s just space there So

[00:20:14:26 – 00:20:21:04]
I’ve seen another installation like that so I’m fairly confident they’ll fit well there

[00:20:21:04 – 00:20:43:21]
And then what I’ll do is I’ll just use that tank, I’ll just fill it up with my air compressor at the house Or if I can find an odd gas station that still has a real air compressor I can fill it up there And with the gauge in the A-pillar pod I’ll be able to see how much air is left in the tank

[00:20:43:21 – 00:20:47:19]
And then you know, know at a glance if I need to fill it up again

[00:20:47:19 – 00:21:02:10]
And then later I’ll get a, probably a VIA air compressor and mount that and hook it up And then I’ll have a switch with the overhead switches that I have where I can kick that on and fill up the tank

[00:21:02:10 – 00:21:03:27]
The fill up the air tank

[00:21:03:27 – 00:21:09:20]
But the neat thing is that with the air tank that means I’ll have onboard air, it’ll be limited of course

[00:21:09:20 – 00:21:16:14]
But the really nice thing will be I’ll have a compressed air

[00:21:16:14 – 00:21:23:14]
Not system, what am I trying to say, a compressed air reservoir for my air horn

[00:21:23:14 – 00:21:34:04]
had two situations today where it would have just been very advantageous if not satisfying to use an air horn

[00:21:34:26 – 00:21:43:28]
You know those people that they feel that if they signal it’s okay to pull within 3 feet of your front bumper Because they’re in a hurry

[00:21:45:08 – 00:21:47:17]
That’s fine, they can be in a hurry, I just rode his

[00:21:47:17 – 00:21:56:23]
But it would have been a lot more fun to hit that 110, 130 decibel air horn whenever he did

[00:21:56:23 – 00:22:06:09]
So, yep, yep, looking forward to the air horn and with that source of air I should be able to use it,

[00:22:06:09 – 00:22:08:09]
at least in short purse

[00:22:08:09 – 00:22:18:29]
So let’s see, looking over here at the chat room For those of you that are not aware, we have a live show every Wednesday 8pm Central Time

[00:22:18:29 – 00:22:22:28]
And it’s on Ustream, ustream.tv if you’re not familiar with it

[00:22:22:28 – 00:22:31:00]
And you can actually watch the show live and interact with me and the other members that are watching the show or listening to it

[00:22:31:00 – 00:22:42:20]
And you can just go to XJtalk.com, the very front page, there’s a little window there And when we’re on, that little window will be active and you’ll be able to hear the show

[00:22:42:20 – 00:22:52:17]
And see the show at times The thrust of the podcast was really just to have a weekly show and interview people and talk about things like what I’m talking about tonight

[00:22:52:17 – 00:23:00:22]
And just have the recording up so you could listen to it whenever you wanted to or download it And just listening to it from the site

[00:23:00:22 – 00:23:09:10]
And then I thought, well, I’m going to put it live on Ustream at the same time So the Ustream is kind of an afterthought, but you’re more than welcome to get in, get into our chat room

[00:23:09:10 – 00:23:18:05]
and chat Anyway, going back, looking into the chat room here that you people listening to the podcast may not be aware of

[00:23:18:05 – 00:23:23:29]
But anyway, VW4Y has joined us along with Wayne

[00:23:23:29 – 00:23:30:21]
And just sitting here, just kind of catching up with what VW4Y is saying

[00:23:32:01 – 00:23:37:06]
Without, let’s see, the Air PSI gauge is a good one for watching cooling system

[00:23:38:27 – 00:23:40:12]
If pressurize

[00:23:40:12 – 00:23:44:11]
while on turtle,

[00:23:44:11 – 00:23:45:28]
then you have a leak

[00:23:45:28 – 00:23:51:07]
I don’t know, it’s a closed system, so I would only be

[00:23:51:07 – 00:23:53:13]
watching the air tank

[00:23:53:13 – 00:23:56:26]
So I guess, no,

[00:23:56:26 – 00:23:59:21]
pressure would only go down if I had a leak So I’m

[00:23:59:21 – 00:24:04:22]
just talking about an onboard air system without an air compressor

[00:24:04:22 – 00:24:06:11]
Okay, no, I don’t

[00:24:06:11 – 00:24:12:27]
know, maybe he and Wayne are talking about something I didn’t read all the comments there, I didn’t want a lot of dare-dare

[00:24:12:27 – 00:24:17:18]
Anyway, welcome to the live show, VW4Y

[00:24:17:18 – 00:24:19:08]
Thank you for showing up

[00:24:19:08 – 00:24:28:08]
So anyway, that’s what I’ve got planned, I’ve got a couple of gauges coming in I bought both of those gauges and the tubing

[00:24:28:08 – 00:24:45:07]
to hook up the vacuum gauge through amazon.com And at XTRayTalk we’ve got a little thing going on that I actually picked up on from listening to another podcast Where there’s an affiliate program that amazon.com has And if

[00:24:45:07 – 00:24:47:22]
your website

[00:24:47:22 – 00:24:59:08]
has a link set up, like we have for XTRayTalk.com You can actually get a little percentage off of each sale that somebody makes at amazon.com

[00:24:59:08 – 00:25:00:28]
And it’s really cool because

[00:25:00:28 – 00:25:05:01]
it’s not like they’re charging, amazon’s charging you anything extra

[00:25:05:01 – 00:25:26:00]
You pay the same low price, get the same customer service, the same fast shipping that you would normally get from amazon.com But if you go to the link that we have set up on the homepage of XTRayTalk.com If you click on that link first, it’ll take you to amazon.com and then you can make your purchase

[00:25:26:00 – 00:25:34:03]
And when you do that, XTRayTalk.com will get a few percent of that sale And again, it doesn’t cost you anything different

[00:25:34:25 – 00:25:47:05]
There’s no money added to that for us to have that privilege of getting a few cents for each of those purchases that you make

[00:25:47:05 – 00:25:53:15]
So it’s a really cool deal and I’m pretty excited about it Somebody made a purchase today

[00:25:53:15 – 00:26:01:14]
and they told me about it And it’s not showing up yet, it looks like it will not show up until it’s actually shipped

[00:26:02:04 – 00:26:21:07]
Which kind of makes sense because somebody could always cancel the order and then there’s no reason to get your hopes up So like I’ve put in the post on XTRayTalk.com, help out the site and get the product that you were going to get anyway And pay the same amount you were going to pay for it anyway And it’s a win-win

[00:26:21:07 – 00:26:30:19]
So at least that’s the way I look at it Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to work very well for me If I’m

[00:26:30:19 – 00:26:37:24]
buying something since it’s the same login, I tried that because I’ve made a couple of purchases

[00:26:37:24 – 00:26:40:26]
And let’s see, Wayne are you trying to call? Let’s see,

[00:26:40:26 – 00:26:44:06]
maybe so, let me see Let’s try, I

[00:26:44:06 – 00:26:48:09]
think maybe I missed a call from Wayne, that’s strange, it didn’t pop up

[00:26:48:09 – 00:26:49:17]
Let’s try calling Wayne

[00:26:52:07 – 00:27:02:10]
So anyway, order from my amazon.com, just go to xtraytalk.com and click on the link And then, you know, if you want to buy a house or something like that, that would work out really well

[00:27:02:10 – 00:27:05:07]
Percentage wise for us Hey Wayne, how’s it going?

[00:27:05:07 – 00:27:08:22]
I’m good about it yourself Oh, just fine, did I miss your call?

[00:27:08:22 – 00:27:10:05]
Yeah, I thought I’d call in while

[00:27:10:05 – 00:27:11:16]
pretty early off work today

[00:27:11:16 – 00:27:27:01]
Excellent, thank you No, I didn’t see it pop up, I just saw a little notification like whenever somebody adds you to their contacts or something And I went over there to look at it while I was talking and it looked like I had missed your call Hey, how’s things going? Is it still shaky over there?

[00:27:27:01 – 00:27:44:04]
Yeah, it’s crazy times again Man, I just, I was really hopeful, you know, like you, I’m sorry, for the audience that is not aware Like I was saying earlier, Wayne is in New Zealand, Christchurch, New Zealand And of course they’ve had several quite devastating earthquakes there

[00:27:44:04 – 00:27:49:17]
And fortunately Wayne hasn’t had any,

[00:27:49:17 – 00:28:49:10]
I don’t want to understate this Wayne You have not experienced any loss of life, you still have a home But you have this constant, almost constant shaking going on and your home has suffered damage Fortunately, your jeep is still doing well, however, your big screen TV lost its battle a couple of weeks ago, I believe So Wayne is there in Christchurch, he’s a moderator on our site And if you go back and listen to some past shows, we’ve had interviews with Wayne I think it was only a week after the seven point, whatever it was that they had there in Christchurch So, we wanted to get back with Wayne just to find out how things were going Frankly, when I had spoken with Wayne on xjtalk.com, it was the hopes of having a, yeah, things are starting to calm down We’re getting back to work, we’re getting the house fixed, and then they had another big one here not too long ago Fortunately, not as big as

[00:28:49:10 – 00:28:53:04]
last one they had, but still, substantial

[00:28:53:04 – 00:28:59:25]
So Wayne, I think everybody’s up to speed, I think I stated all that stuff correctly, feel free to correct me if I was wrong

[00:28:59:25 – 00:29:03:18]
Yeah, no, it sounds right, we had another big one

[00:29:03:18 – 00:29:08:29]
last Monday night Monday night we had a 5.4 that upgraded it,

[00:29:08:29 – 00:29:16:20]
and then we had about 20 afterwards So we had no sleep that night, it was 10.34 or thereabouts PM

[00:29:16:20 – 00:29:18:18]
really, really shocked the house,

[00:29:18:18 – 00:29:22:08]
they’re all really shallow, they’re about 5, 6, 7k deep

[00:29:22:08 – 00:29:24:04]
There’s more damage

[00:29:24:04 – 00:29:26:08]
in the city again, but

[00:29:26:08 – 00:29:28:02]
city just wouldn’t mess at the moment

[00:29:28:02 – 00:29:30:04]
Again, governments

[00:29:30:04 – 00:29:37:27]
today, about now, announcing some plans for people’s houses who had it and they can’t rebuild on the land

[00:29:38:18 – 00:29:41:10]
They’ve got to buy the houses, off the people, because the people pay

[00:29:41:10 – 00:29:47:07]
out the valuation of the house plus land Those people can then move on, then the government,

[00:29:47:07 – 00:29:56:13]
they’ve got to deal with the insurers, and whatnot private insurers I think that was a pretty good move by them, it’s taken them 9, 10 months, this has been gone that long Right

[00:29:56:13 – 00:30:04:01]
That’s getting announced as we speak, I think, and I think there’s six suburbs and could be up to 5,000 houses involved

[00:30:04:01 – 00:30:06:14]
They’ve got 9 months to make up their mind, the people

[00:30:06:14 – 00:30:23:06]
We had kind of a somewhat similar situation near where I lived in Lynchburg It’s just a little community called Lynchburg, it was actually more Baytown than anything else But there was a subdivision called Brownwood,

[00:30:23:06 – 00:30:27:08]
and it was right next door to another subdivision called Lakewood

[00:30:28:08 – 00:30:43:21]
Brownwood actually had subsided, the land had subsided, it was on Burnett Bay And because of all the oil companies and the drilling here in the area, or at least in the area of Baytown That’s where the Big Ex-Own refinery is

[00:30:43:21 – 00:30:52:03]
And a bunch of chemical plants, oil plants, DuPont, etc. etc. I guess it’s pretty amazing to look at, I’m just used to it because I’ve been here all my life

[00:30:52:03 – 00:31:10:26]
But at any rate, there was a lot of subsidence, specifically in that area And every time there was a big tropical wave or something that would come through It would really, there would be a lot of water that would come into Brownwood and would flood homes

[00:31:10:26 – 00:31:16:16]
it wasn’t until Alicia came through, which was, gosh, I guess

[00:31:16:16 – 00:31:18:17]
like 84 or so

[00:31:20:15 – 00:31:37:26]
Yeah, I think it was 84 When Alicia came in, it really flooded that area and the government bought out all those houses So it sounds a lot similar to what you’re talking about But the thing I don’t understand is, why can’t they build on the land? Is it like sinkholes or liquefaction Or why wouldn’t they be able to rebuild on that land?

[00:31:37:26 – 00:31:54:01]
Some, some’s a lot of that liquefaction, a lot of it’s around the river Some hilltop houses with hills disappeared, fallen down And a lot of it, it’s a swamp, at the end of the day they’ve built on a swamp crossage when it was settled, first settled, it was swamp

[00:31:54:01 – 00:31:57:13]
There’s a lot of old river beds under the city, so they’re finding out now And it’s,

[00:31:57:13 – 00:32:09:21]
the land’s just disappearing and sinking Have you ever seen that liquefaction? I think The cutlery pictures I put up and whatnot of it, a little bit says sub-ooves and sub-ooves of that just covered in that And it’s at people’s houses under their floors,

[00:32:09:21 – 00:32:16:02]
made as deep in some areas Now that’s like whenever a solid starts to act like a liquid because of the shaking

[00:32:16:02 – 00:32:51:25]
So things that would be sitting on something that was solid looking, like the ground, it would actually sink into it I remember you posted some pictures of things that were sunk into it that in my mind looked like what happens whenever there’s a lot of sand Like if you parked a vehicle on a beach and the water washed in around the wheels, the sand would build up I don’t know if the vehicle goes down or the sand just builds up around it But you get this thing where the sand goes up the side of the tire a little bit That’s kind of what those pictures reminded me of So I guess what’s happening is when the ground shakes,

[00:32:51:25 – 00:32:53:27]
the solids act like a liquid

[00:32:53:27 – 00:33:01:21]
Yeah, and it’s coming out of the ground, it’s leaving holes under A lot of the banks have fallen down, so there’s flooding, a lot of flooding now too The tidal rivers,

[00:33:01:21 – 00:33:06:06]
just up the road here there’s floods twice a day with the tides

[00:33:06:06 – 00:33:06:23]
It’s

[00:33:06:23 – 00:33:12:13]
because of the earthquakes caused the banks and the land to drop a meter or so

[00:33:14:05 – 00:33:25:16]
There’s people there from, well it’s still on 10 months now from that first one They’ve been living with power going off and on, and they’ve been having to use those porta lusas on it So

[00:33:25:16 – 00:33:33:20]
walking out whenever they’ve got to do their business One in the morning or one in the afternoon, it’s winter here now, no lights, torches I don’t know how the people have been living like

[00:33:33:20 – 00:33:46:16]
So how’s your house? I know you had said, I think that was a picture that you had posted Where the wall was leaning out, so you had quite a large crack there Again, I don’t know if that was your house or not

[00:33:46:16 – 00:33:50:00]
One of the main walls has got a big

[00:33:50:00 – 00:33:53:23]
bow on it, the roof’s concave I can see daylight,

[00:33:53:23 – 00:33:57:01]
I’m in my bedroom now and I’m looking out my wall I can see daylight

[00:33:57:01 – 00:34:00:23]
It’s got worse, it keeps moving

[00:34:00:23 – 00:34:07:20]
It’s got shakes, so I think it’s still structurally sound I might wake up and I might have been a bit closer to the neighbours, it’s better

[00:34:07:20 – 00:34:10:26]
But I’m just getting worse, but they were

[00:34:10:26 – 00:34:13:23]
to go with a go ahead to start fixing it

[00:34:13:23 – 00:34:20:15]
Because we’ve had the big shakes, now we haven’t heard from them So I don’t know if the go is… At the end of the day, what they’ve got to do is come in here

[00:34:20:15 – 00:34:33:09]
We’ve got to move out for, say, I think it’s going to be about near on T-Muts Lift the house right up, and I think they’ll move it And then do their foundations again, put the house back down Then straighten all the beams in the roof with new floor

[00:34:33:09 – 00:34:37:22]
New beams, new wall, paint it, drywall, you call it drywall, turbo ward

[00:34:37:22 – 00:34:43:24]
Whatever else they find, so it’s quite a major one That’s amazing, that’s a lot of work

[00:34:43:24 – 00:34:48:22]
So, yeah, Warren on here, the other key we see, J,

[00:34:48:22 – 00:34:59:15]
A, NZ Warren, his wife, she can’t handle it anymore, he’s put his house up for auction And he’s just, this is last night, he told me, I saw him posted on XJTalk

[00:34:59:15 – 00:35:02:06]
And he’s brought a block in at Leaston, which is about

[00:35:02:06 – 00:35:16:00]
20 minutes away You feel the really big earthquakes, you’re not waking up once they’re fours when they roll through You don’t feel them out there, you only feel the real big ones So he’s had enough, he’s gone There’s thousands like that, there’ll be even more today

[00:35:16:00 – 00:35:24:11]
When the government announces that packages, people will just be, nah, they’ll move out of Christchurch Yeah, completely understandable, I mean, especially if you have a family

[00:35:25:19 – 00:35:27:13]
And especially if you… You’re still there as well, though

[00:35:28:18 – 00:35:29:10]
Yeah, I guess so

[00:35:29:10 – 00:35:30:19]
I guess relatives

[00:35:30:19 – 00:35:38:22]
Yeah, I got elderly, my dad, he’s 70-something now, Bridget’s mum, she’s, well, we know about Bridget’s mum Don’t we, we don’t talk about that in law

[00:35:40:10 – 00:35:43:08]
She’s elderly and frail, you know, you’ve got your friends, I’ve got

[00:35:43:08 – 00:35:45:01]
brothers and sisters here

[00:35:45:01 – 00:35:50:14]
Cousins, I’d rather be in Christchurch if something goes snap again then

[00:35:50:14 – 00:35:55:20]
couple hundred miles away where he’s going to take me out, so get here or say, be in Australia or something like that Where it’ll take me

[00:35:55:20 – 00:35:59:07]
Somebody else to get back here, if you can fly back in kind of thing, I’d rather be able to

[00:35:59:07 – 00:36:23:07]
Even if I had to walk to go and check on my father or family and whatnot, I’d rather just be here Yeah, that makes a lot of sense, and something I didn’t consider, it’s a very foreign location for me So all my family is here close by, and I didn’t even think about your family being close by, which makes perfect sense And like you say, if you were in Australia, they had floods, they had some recent earthquakes, they have all kinds of issues there So,

[00:36:23:07 – 00:36:41:12]
you know, what do you do? It would be like me in California, along the San Andreas Fault And then moving to another place in California, along the fault line So, you know, in Texas I don’t care too much about it

[00:36:41:12 – 00:36:48:07]
We can’t go anywhere, because you can’t sell your house, and you can’t walk away from your house, because it’s worth X amount of dollars You

[00:36:48:07 – 00:36:56:12]
can’t because they’re damaged, so you’re kind of stuck here anyway, you’re kind of screwed Even if you wanted to go, at least you walk away, cut your losses and start again

[00:36:56:12 – 00:37:06:06]
That’s a lot of money to waste kind of thing, if you know what I mean But it’s perfectly understandable the people that do, just because of the sanity

[00:37:06:06 – 00:37:07:14]
It’s

[00:37:07:14 – 00:37:15:02]
broken a lot of people, these last few big shakes You can really see it now, but people just say sick of it And sleep

[00:37:15:02 – 00:37:20:19]
deprived, you know, if you can catch sleep, it’s good sleep But you get a big quake like we did the other night, and you get about

[00:37:20:19 – 00:37:21:26]
so many during the night

[00:37:21:26 – 00:37:29:09]
You don’t get a lot of sleep for the next three, four days And then when you do, it’s always in the back of your mind And if you bear it in the shower, or bear

[00:37:29:09 – 00:37:36:08]
in the days off, you always, what if, you know, you wait Well if you hear a noise, you know, your eyes open, you brace yourself, you got to run or whatever

[00:37:36:08 – 00:37:47:00]
That’s crazy I would imagine that you don’t even want to eat the food that gives you any gas Because you can scare a small family

[00:37:47:00 – 00:37:49:13]
The Indian restaurants won’t be doing a very good trade

[00:37:52:13 – 00:37:54:23]
That’s crazy times, but you know, there’s a lot of,

[00:37:54:23 – 00:38:01:10]
little scutter stuff eventually And then we’ll have a better city out of it, and we’ll have a bright, good future But

[00:38:01:10 – 00:38:04:01]
at the moment, ten months of it, she’s wearing thin

[00:38:04:01 – 00:38:05:28]
Yeah, how long has it been total?

[00:38:05:28 – 00:38:08:01]
Yeah, September the 4th,

[00:38:08:01 – 00:38:09:13]
last year, so it was ten months

[00:38:09:13 – 00:38:10:26]
Oh goodness,

[00:38:10:26 – 00:38:14:02]
maybe that’s what you said, I thought you said two months

[00:38:14:02 – 00:38:16:06]
No, it was Ten months, okay

[00:38:16:06 – 00:38:19:15]
Yeah, I was thinking it was over a year, because I know it’s been going on a

[00:38:19:15 – 00:38:20:26]
long time

[00:38:20:26 – 00:38:22:12]
A lot longer than I planned

[00:38:22:12 – 00:38:24:25]
We had the February one,

[00:38:24:25 – 00:38:26:28]
people in February Then we,

[00:38:26:28 – 00:38:40:04]
the 13th, we had another big 6 and another big 5 And that’s what broke a lot of people, because the streets, okay, they were patched up But there was some sort of, you know, you could go about some normal activities

[00:38:40:04 – 00:38:43:07]
Now it’s a battle to get to one side of town again And

[00:38:43:07 – 00:38:46:03]
I said, people were shuffling that liquid faction for the third time

[00:38:46:03 – 00:38:53:00]
And yeah, power was gone, water was gone, I think we’re only allowed to start drinking the water again Yeah, you still should probably boil it

[00:38:53:00 – 00:38:54:03]
And people still,

[00:38:54:03 – 00:38:57:22]
Monday night when that one went through, they lost their power again, and water and stuff

[00:38:57:22 – 00:39:23:25]
So yeah, and there’s a lot more broken houses around now, you actually see them with walls disappearing And it disappeared, and it’s crazy, I think they’re more or less the CBD, the central part of town I think they’ve just left that at the moment, because every time they go in there to start doing stuff We get a big shake, masonry, or stuff, and we just don’t want to lose more people Yeah, I was going to say, that’s going to be hugely frustrating for the people that are putting things back together And I’m sure even for you, are you back at work now?

[00:39:23:25 – 00:39:28:05]
Yeah, we’re doing work, we’re working just out of

[00:39:28:05 – 00:39:31:04]
minutes down at Christchurch the last couple of days But

[00:39:31:04 – 00:39:35:15]
we’re working on the other side of town last week, in the hills where they’ve been rumbling

[00:39:35:15 – 00:39:40:29]
And it was funny, I was going to be over there the other day, it’s called Governor’s Bay The last big six

[00:39:40:29 – 00:39:44:18]
we had, and I was right there, and I was going to be in there cutting one of our concrete jobs up

[00:39:44:18 – 00:39:47:23]
But we got delayed, and I’m kind of glad we did, because it would have been a long walk home

[00:39:47:23 – 00:39:53:13]
There’s rocks and stuff down all over, because it’s through the hills and stuff There’s rocks all over and stuff down the road, so

[00:39:53:13 – 00:39:55:20]
I don’t even know if that house will still be there actually

[00:39:55:20 – 00:40:10:28]
must be very frustrating for the people that are trying to get things working again I guess this is one of those things where you just have to keep going, because for the water and the electricity People have to have it, it makes a huge difference in the quality of life, I’m sure

[00:40:10:28 – 00:40:14:26]
doesn’t help, we’re in the smack bang in the middle of winter, so it’s actually pretty cool over here at the moment

[00:40:14:26 – 00:40:17:28]
Well that’s good, yeah that’s right, because it’s summertime here

[00:40:20:01 – 00:40:25:08]
It’s cold, it must be so horrible for the people who haven’t got proper heating and stuff

[00:40:25:08 – 00:40:28:13]
How else they’ll rely on electricity for their heating and lose the power

[00:40:28:13 – 00:40:32:20]
It doesn’t get really cold over there, does it? I mean, you don’t get snow, do you?

[00:40:33:25 – 00:40:40:02]
Every couple of three years we’ll get snow, we freeze quite often, it’s below two in the mornings when you wake up

[00:40:41:05 – 00:40:42:11]
Big frosts and stuff,

[00:40:42:11 – 00:40:53:07]
they’re protecting southerlies for next week, it comes up from in tat That’s really really cold stuff, we’ve got good skiing, about 45 minutes away from here There’s no snow there at the moment, but

[00:40:53:07 – 00:40:55:00]
we’re known for our skiing

[00:40:55:00 – 00:40:56:18]
Mifton, which is not far from here

[00:40:56:18 – 00:40:58:17]
So yeah, we do get rough winters,

[00:40:58:17 – 00:41:04:26]
it’s been really wild so far, so I don’t know what’s to come I’d say we’ve got some nasty stuff coming, this is what we need really enough

[00:41:05:29 – 00:41:22:17]
Well yeah, when it rains it pours, if you go with that thought process I would like to see you guys have a little quiet time, although I guess it was getting a lot better before it started acting up again You

[00:41:22:17 – 00:41:25:14]
get the big shakes and you

[00:41:25:14 – 00:41:50:08]
yourself and when it goes quiet, I think I was chanting to you one time on chat We haven’t had one for a while, we had a big bang, so we stopped talking about it myself But you don’t know whether there’s a big shake and you’re all on edge again, but when it goes quiet you’re not at that stage where you’re thinking “Oh, there must be over” you’re thinking “when does the next big one come in?” kind of thing Sure, at this point, with all the shaking you’ve had, you can’t just think it’s over

[00:41:50:08 – 00:41:56:14]
Now after every big shake, they say “well you can expect aftershocks for another year” kind of thing So we’re back to,

[00:41:56:14 – 00:42:07:25]
was it two weeks ago we had the six? There’s a 30% chance we can have a 6.9 to a 7 now, within the next month and then it goes down slowly for the next year So they still reckon there’s a big one out there

[00:42:09:24 – 00:42:23:13]
So this is probably old news, but something that’s not so sad, at least I don’t think it’s this sad You were recently trying to get your Jeep inspected and you were having some problems What was the problem and how did you get around it?

[00:42:23:13 – 00:42:25:16]
I had no light for my,

[00:42:25:16 – 00:42:30:06]
this is like no dash light for my

[00:42:30:06 – 00:42:37:05]
year back But it’s a mechanical year back, the Jeep don’t have them And I had to explain that to my mechanicals And

[00:42:37:05 – 00:42:45:26]
I just got peeved with them and I went and took it down to my mate who owns 4 wheel drive accessories who’s lost a shop But he says “no that’s cool, leave it with me

[00:42:45:26 – 00:42:55:19]
and I’ll take it where he’s allowed to go because you’ve got to be at a proper mechanic shop” And he took it round to another 4 wheel drive shop, threw it through 4 wheel iron I think I put a new track bar or something on it, got his gold

[00:42:55:19 – 00:42:58:22]
it’s all legal now, I’ve got problems with the

[00:42:58:22 – 00:43:06:04]
clicking noise But it’s the universal, the dry shop, which I think I’ve got, I’ve just ordered one

[00:43:06:04 – 00:43:14:00]
Which I just got my next project to fix that But at the moment it’s still running and I really want to pull it apart Yeah, and you never know when you might need it too

[00:43:14:00 – 00:43:39:03]
Well, it actually rained here in southeast Texas today quite a bit And I like putting my Jeep in 4 wheel drive since I have the full time option on it I like putting it in 4 wheel drive, especially on one road that I travel on It’s very very slippery But I didn’t want to do it because I’ve got a U joint in my front drive shaft that’s starting to talk to me

[00:43:39:03 – 00:43:41:26]
So I’m going to try They’re interchangeable aren’t they?

[00:43:41:26 – 00:44:04:05]
The front one to the back one? If I remember, I think Steve 4.3LXJ said that they’re all the same There’s 3 on the front drive shaft because of the cardigan But they’re supposed to all be the same And I’ve got 2 Spicer U joints And I know that one of the U joints on the

[00:44:04:05 – 00:44:08:12]
front drive shaft were changed a couple of years ago

[00:44:08:12 – 00:44:20:01]
And I know they didn’t change Actually I think 2 were changed They didn’t change the one that is on the drive shaft that connects to the cardigan I think I’m saying that correctly The cardigan joint

[00:44:20:01 – 00:44:22:04]
Because they said they couldn’t get to it

[00:44:24:25 – 00:44:28:13]
So I just kind of left it alone So I know

[00:44:28:13 – 00:44:46:27]
the U joints have been changed Including the ones on the axles because I changed those myself With the exception of one on the front drive shaft And I’m sure that’s the one that’s acting up on me Well I say I’m sure I’m going to look and see But that’s probably the one because that’s the one that has the 170,000 miles on it

[00:44:46:27 – 00:44:48:09]
Well I just clicked up

[00:44:48:09 – 00:44:57:14]
200 kilometers And I’m going to say about 200,000 km But my mine is kilometers over here so I don’t know when that works out at miles So I’ve just run mine cheaper

[00:44:57:14 – 00:45:03:03]
Well it’s probably pretty close to what I’ve got on mine You may have a little more actually

[00:45:03:03 – 00:45:05:22]
But yeah so I’m going to try to

[00:45:05:22 – 00:45:09:16]
get motivated And boy I just sweat my

[00:45:09:16 – 00:45:19:21]
off just putting that gauge in And I hate to go out there and do it again But I sure do like being able to put that thing in 4 wheel drive And drop a front drive shaft because

[00:45:19:21 – 00:45:28:24]
it’s going to be an inconvenience hopefully And not an emergency situation

[00:45:28:24 – 00:45:36:29]
I’ll swap mine out this weekend but I’ll do mine this weekend That’s what my plan is to do it this weekend

[00:45:36:29 – 00:45:38:24]
That’s my plan yeah, this weekend

[00:45:38:24 – 00:45:39:24]
It’ll take long, shouldn’t

[00:45:39:24 – 00:46:01:25]
No And I’ve got my door locks aren’t locking So every time I get to where I’m going I have to manually lock 4 doors And then I’ve got to go lock the tailgate And it’s just a pain in the butt So I tried getting on the alarm And trying to program it so that it doesn’t automatically unlock the doors

[00:46:01:25 – 00:46:05:25]
Whenever you disable the alarm But I couldn’t find it

[00:46:06:17 – 00:46:11:18]
had my driver’s side window It’s never wound down for about 2 years now

[00:46:11:18 – 00:46:14:01]
a real pain in the ass

[00:46:14:01 – 00:46:15:07]
drive it I’ve

[00:46:15:07 – 00:46:16:17]
traced wires

[00:46:16:17 – 00:46:32:22]
it out and I’ve pulled it apart And put another piece in there And nah it still just won’t work so I’ll live with it in a moment But yeah that’s like your locking thing That’s a pain in the butt Driver’s side window doesn’t go down That’s a real pain in the butt So that’s my passengers one for you Well

[00:46:32:22 – 00:46:39:09]
my dad told me a long time ago He goes don’t get a vehicle with all that power stuff There’s something else to go wrong

[00:46:40:24 – 00:47:04:23]
It sure is nice when it works though Especially if you want to roll down all the windows And have that almost open air feeling that you would get Like with a Wrangler or something I like driving with all the windows down in the Jeep And it’s just real simple to make that decision to roll them all down And if it’s too cold or too hot, roll them back up It’s not to reach over there and do it manually So

[00:47:04:23 – 00:47:07:26]
I’ll get it Those doors are for those re-neaked twins down your way

[00:47:09:19 – 00:47:35:04]
You know I was when I took the 99 over to Matt’s shop A weekend before last he was there Re-ne was there And I asked him I said did you Do you ever get hit by rocks or anything Whenever you’re driving with the doors off And he says no but he’s learned to keep his legs inside Because he gets hit by He’s been hit I think with sand and some dirt And that hurts pretty bad

[00:47:35:04 – 00:47:37:03]
So which I can well imagine

[00:47:37:03 – 00:47:47:15]
It is pretty cool though It does look pretty neat And of course it is nice air conditioning I guess it’s even cooler whenever you’re sitting in a light Because there’s more of a breeze to come through

[00:47:47:15 – 00:47:50:23]
I think there would be a legal way We ought to be allowed to do that

[00:47:50:23 – 00:47:53:16]
I know the Wrangler is Oh really? You can’t keep light

[00:47:53:16 – 00:48:02:20]
But I don’t think It would be legal here At least you can because the boys are all remade He’s got a couple of Wranglers He takes on the tops and doors off Summertime

[00:48:02:20 – 00:48:05:08]
But unless they’re made for

[00:48:05:08 – 00:48:09:02]
I’ll look into that actually I’ll find out about that I’m pretty sure it would be illegal somehow

[00:48:09:02 – 00:48:14:24]
Because they’re beginning to bang down on us anyway So I wouldn’t want to bring attention to myself anyway Mmm hmm Yeah Those doors

[00:48:14:24 – 00:48:24:18]
be interesting Well I don’t know It just invades me how How many things we can do here in Texas I’m used to California being pretty

[00:48:24:18 – 00:48:26:01]
about things I

[00:48:26:01 – 00:48:34:06]
was really surprised about Australia doing the gun ban Because I’ve always felt Australia is a lot like Texas

[00:48:36:20 – 00:48:37:24]
Full of rednecks you know

[00:48:39:13 – 00:48:46:29]
You should get to talk to James or a couple of those Ozzy boys we’ve got now Because even though I think some of them were born in New Zealand

[00:48:47:29 – 00:48:57:24]
They have got some really different rules to what we’ve got As in modifying their jeeps or four wheel drives Or vehicles They’re really

[00:48:57:24 – 00:49:03:07]
They’re always the nice I just don’t understand that I don’t understand the mindset

[00:49:05:09 – 00:49:14:20]
Yeah it would be interesting Because I’d be quite curious to find out myself It would be quite interesting to see if you could Skype one of those boys at some stage And have a bit of a chat to them Oh yeah that’s a good idea

[00:49:16:09 – 00:49:17:19]
James is that for?

[00:49:17:19 – 00:49:37:14]
That’s right I remember you actually set that up And I had forgotten about it It may just be my misconception of Australia But I’m sure that in the big city there in Australia It would make sense But there’s so much of Australia that isn’t a big city I just can’t imagine why they would restrict you

[00:49:38:06 – 00:49:47:00]
For modifying a vehicle I mean to me Australia is a wonderful place You could make use of a highly modified four wheel drive

[00:49:47:00 – 00:49:59:21]
And keeping the height restrictions And tire size It just seems very counter intuitive And I’m quite happy that we don’t have those restrictions here in

[00:49:59:21 – 00:50:02:01]
We’re strict but if you do everything right You

[00:50:02:01 – 00:50:06:27]
know they worry about lines on legal It’s all suited by volume suit Because it’s lifted and what not But

[00:50:06:27 – 00:50:19:12]
it’s on legal so therefore if I had someone They can’t come back and be of the insurance or vice versa So that’s one reason I didn’t accept you as another one as well Yeah well I don’t want to be all fallen off Or suspension collapsing You know I’m

[00:50:19:12 – 00:50:23:06]
driving around with family and the kind of thing Yeah well I think it all goes back to

[00:50:23:06 – 00:50:35:19]
Who’s making the determination of safety Is the government deciding for you Or are you deciding for yourself And here recently Governor Rick Perry the governor here in

[00:50:35:19 – 00:50:45:15]
Vetoed a bill about not being able to I think it was either talk on the cell phone Or text on your cell phone while driving

[00:50:45:15 – 00:51:03:13]
Because he basically said that The people ought to be able to decide that for themselves Government shouldn’t be deciding it And besides it’s very difficult to catch somebody doing that And I think it’s idiotic People should not be texting on the cell phone while they’re driving I see it almost every day

[00:51:03:13 – 00:51:08:02]
But yeah it should be the individual’s responsibility

[00:51:08:02 – 00:51:29:05]
To make that determination about whether or not they should I mean I don’t want to get killed because of it I don’t want to kill somebody because they weren’t paying attention And they run a red light or run a stop sign and I’ll plow into them But you know at some point the government has to allow its people And really the government is only there because of the people It’s not the other way around so

[00:51:29:05 – 00:51:29:28]
So

[00:51:29:28 – 00:51:37:12]
that’s coming about a year ago over here No cell phone use while you’re driving Do you use a lot of smoking bars over there?

[00:51:37:12 – 00:51:49:21]
No restaurants or bars or pubs or taverns? I think it depends on where in the country you are California is real bad about that or real good about that Depending on whether or not you’re a smoker I’m a non-smoker and I do not like smelling it

[00:51:49:21 – 00:52:05:14]
That’s for yeah yeah that’s well we’re not allowed to in public places over here Yeah that’s a good call And that’s coming from a smoker but I think that’s a really good call Yeah that’s and that’s the way it is here in Houston All the restaurants in Houston and I believe in Katie now too are all non-smoking

[00:52:06:14 – 00:52:33:28]
And you know I on my Mokoroi.com blog I actually posted a thing about the smoking stuff And I made it really clear I don’t care if you want to kill yourself with smoking Go right ahead if you’re my friend I may not want you to die sooner Because I enjoy your company And I might say something to you about that but as far as you’re right the smoke that’s fine But the problem I have and have always had about it is The smoke doesn’t know to stay with you

[00:52:35:15 – 00:52:42:02]
Passive smoking And I’m not concerned about getting cancer from the passive smoke I just don’t like smelling the

[00:52:43:26 – 00:52:48:18]
I don’t I’m a non-smoker I don’t like it And if you

[00:52:48:18 – 00:53:03:11]
any of you non-smokers If you remember back when you weren’t a smoker or weren’t around smoke all the time It’s very very telling I mean you can smell it very easily And of course when you’re a smoker Yeah when you’re a smoker you don’t smell it

[00:53:03:11 – 00:53:04:23]
You know you’ll get used to it

[00:53:04:23 – 00:53:09:02]
one quick question about your senators and stuff Sure

[00:53:09:02 – 00:53:12:14]
That fellow is sending photos that weiner fella

[00:53:14:01 – 00:53:15:02]
Is he related to Jim?

[00:53:15:02 – 00:53:16:10]
Is he related to who?

[00:53:16:10 – 00:53:21:16]
Jim Jim Bose You know I don’t think so

[00:53:21:16 – 00:53:30:22]
He was a crack up man that was on the news over here man I nearly fell off my chair when I heard about that the other day I just can’t imagine Number one I can’t imagine a congressman

[00:53:30:22 – 00:53:36:17]
doing that openly In a very very public worldwide public forum

[00:53:36:17 – 00:53:40:00]
And doing it with the nice name of weiner

[00:53:40:00 – 00:53:43:01]
That’s what threw me mate that was so funny

[00:53:44:24 – 00:53:45:21]
Unbelievable

[00:53:45:21 – 00:54:12:19]
And you know I haven’t seen I heard some little bit little inkling that some people were saying Isn’t it interesting that all this came out when Obama’s popularity His poll numbers were way down And the economy numbers had come out that were really bad Basically unemployment is going back up and so on and so forth And boom all of a sudden here’s a democrat weiner with this scandal

[00:54:12:19 – 00:54:21:11]
That takes up all the news Which is what he did was it’s interesting and hilarious But in the big importance of things it isn’t important

[00:54:21:11 – 00:54:24:10]
It’s not as important as the US economy

[00:54:25:12 – 00:54:31:08]
So you know I don’t know I don’t think anybody would ruin their career Just simply to help out President Obama but

[00:54:31:08 – 00:54:35:04]
you know I don’t know Not as though it was funny because his name was weiner Oh it’s hilarious

[00:54:35:04 – 00:54:38:09]
I made several jokes and one of the things that I

[00:54:38:09 – 00:54:46:20]
had indicated I may have even posted it in the chat on xjtalk.com I said you know it’s interesting his name Last name is weiner

[00:54:46:20 – 00:55:06:03]
But I think that you know a few centuries ago People didn’t have last names and they only had names They were given last names based on things about them Their profession usually like a blacksmith would be you know black or a smith And I figured weiner, weiner’s ancestors must have gotten that name

[00:55:07:03 – 00:55:11:14]
Because of similar activities years ago They were like hot hog sellers

[00:55:12:25 – 00:55:16:25]
Well I think that would be more of a flashing type thing Hey look at me

[00:55:19:05 – 00:55:21:01]
Yeah he is related to Jimbo’s head maybe hey

[00:55:22:13 – 00:55:25:00]
I don’t know you may know more about Jim than I do

[00:55:26:01 – 00:55:26:18]
Oh I’ll ask him

[00:55:28:13 – 00:55:29:14]
I’ve got to sign off now mate

[00:55:29:14 – 00:55:30:10]
Yep

[00:55:30:10 – 00:55:31:29]
We’re going to do it in the panels

[00:55:31:29 – 00:55:37:29]
We’re yelling at him and doing something we’re talking to him Yeah I just thought we were out there Nothing much to change we’re just still shaking

[00:55:37:29 – 00:55:42:06]
And I’ll keep my posts updated on what’s happening here And I’ll put a link through

[00:55:42:06 – 00:55:51:05]
