A Show About Jeeps!

The Truth About Returning Old Parts for Refunds

Join Tony and the Jeep Talk Show crew for the Tuesday night Round Table pre-party at 7:30 PM Central. The guys get into whether swapping an old Jeep alternator or power steering pump for a refund is clever parts collecting or just stealing, then debate backing into parking spots versus pulling in like God intended. They also cover the Wolfbox G900 Tri-Pro 3-channel mirror dash cam coming for review on the Gladiator and TJs, plus TJ e-brake headaches and why mom-and-pop shops matter.

[00:00:00:00 – 00:02:12:03]
this is the, the round table. Uh, and you can join it by being here on a Tuesday, 7 30 PM central time. It’s what we call the pre-party. That’s when that gets started. And, uh, then around 8 PM, we get started with the questions. It’s about eight 15 now. So there’s, there’s nothing written in stone here. It’s just a, a fun time to get on here and chat with, uh, with other jeepers. And, um, I wanted to ask you guys something. I’ve got a buddy, a good buddy. I haven’t seen a number of years, but a good buddy. Um, and, um, there was something I was surprised that, uh, he, he told me, uh, and I’d like to get your, y’all y’all’s take on it. You don’t need to out yourself publicly. Uh, if you do this, uh, but, uh, you could say a friend or I know Bob probably does this. Bob’s going to go, go the friend route. I’m sure. Um, he told me, I think it was the, I think it was a, um, an alternator. You guys were talking about, uh, alternators with or without pulley. Yeah. Power steering pump, one of those things. And, um, he told me what he, what he would recommend I do. Cause I think jeepers collect a lot of parts, a lot of extra parts. And, and I, and I think it was even, he, he was suggesting that since I bought a new power steering pump, alternator, whatever it was, if I had one laying around and I don’t even think it had to be the same for the same jeep, the thing, same year or whatever, take it back, return it, uh, and, uh, in a way and get your money back for the alternator. That way you have a free alternator or free power steering pump or anything. And I was really surprised by that because, uh, it’s stealing and, and, and this guy was, was very, it changed my opinion of him. It was small, but it changed my opinion of him. Is this anything you guys have experienced or maybe done yourselves? I’ve, I’ve known people that have done it, but I would never do that. Just cause that’s just wrong. I mean, which, which is why a lot of places nowadays will, you know, jot down a serial number off of the part that they’re selling. If there is one, you know, some things have serial numbers on them, but, but yeah, that’s kind of horse horse manure, whatever you want to call it.

[00:02:13:05 – 00:02:18:28]
Yeah. I mean, the store is financing your, your Jeep build, basically. I mean, it’s fine if you got a contract.

[00:02:21:27 – 00:02:57:16]
So, but there was, I will say there was one time that it wasn’t deep parts. It was actually at Walmart. There was a KitchenAid mixer that we took it up to the counter and the lady rang it up and it rang up, didn’t ring up. And then I, I noticed that it didn’t ring up. Oh my God, that didn’t work. See if you probably do that again. She did it again and it didn’t work that time. And then she did it again. And this was like a, after a few seconds, cause she didn’t notice. I didn’t notice it didn’t ring the second time. And the third time she did it once again, it did not ring up and she just pushed it up to push it down. Like it was already all good to go. The third time I said,

[00:02:57:16 – 00:05:23:11]
fuck it. I said, it’s free. I don’t care. Right. Well, it’s not even like, I gave him every opportunity. Yeah. It’s not even like you, you were trying to get away away with it. I mean, it was still illegal. But it was like, uh, employee authorized. Yeah. At that point it was like, well, if you ain’t smart enough to figure it out, then it’s too bad, but there have been all the time through. I’ve walked all the way out to the car with stuff. Like I think it was Anna freeze one time I had on the bottom of the cart. I literally turned around, walked back and paid for it. Oh yeah. Absolutely. I’ve, I’ve received things from Amazon. We were talking about Amazon earlier. I’ve received things from Amazon that I didn’t order. I mean, I, I ordered one and they sent me a box. Like I ordered some led lights spotlights to go outside and I, uh, I think I ordered one, I wanted to put it out there and less power and have a very bright light shining on the jeeps. Uh, if I turned the lights on and, uh, they literally send me, I’m assuming it was a case because I think it had like eight in a box, uh, and I contacted them right away and said, Hey man, I ordered one of these things for 20 bucks and you sent me a box of eight. And they said, I keep it. So if the store says it’s okay, then I’m okay with it, but I feel that I feel like I have to let them know. I mean, uh, I’m sure they were looking at the cost of shipping, uh, and so on and so forth, uh, it is just their policy customer service policy, but, uh, I don’t mind keeping, I don’t mind stealing from the store if, if it’s authorized by the store. But are you stealing it from the store or are they stealing it for you? Because like I ordered a Milwaukee, this is the last thing I have for you. I ordered a Milwaukee toolbox of like a thousand dollar toolbox, the bottom and the top, you know, two pieces. And when they, they delivered it, I didn’t bring it home. They delivered it. They came in two boxes. And when the guy delivered it, he’d scan one box, not the other. Well, I didn’t know this in a couple of days later, my wife calls me and says, Hey, the delivery guy is here. He says, he must really like this toolbox. And I said, well, what do you mean? He says, well, he’s got another one for you. So he dropped off a second toolbox. Now this one was put together. So it was one of one. So needless to say, I mean, I wasn’t home at the time and I was like, you know what? They stole it for me, but I stuck it in the corner of the garage and I waited probably a good two months before I did anything with it. If I figured if they called me and said, Hey, we screwed up. I just said, okay, come get it. Right. But they never, they never called me. I

[00:05:23:11 – 00:05:32:27]
screw it. I gave it to a buddy. You don’t feel like it was on your, your responsibility to contact them and let them know what their mistake was. No, if they got dumb people hire somebody better.

[00:05:34:25 – 00:05:47:01]
So, I mean, that’s why I’m pretty. Yeah. So Rick, you’ve been through a lot of parts. Have you accidentally returned anything? Maybe it was the wrong part, but it’s like, Oh, well,

[00:05:50:04 – 00:06:45:03]
no, you know, it’s, it’s an integrity thing for me. I mean, I don’t care. I don’t care what anybody else does. I don’t care. You know, I mean, I’m going to do it just for my own, my own, you know, and you know, it’s, you know, I mean, I’ve had situations where it sure would have been a whole lot easier on me because I went through a lot of trouble to, to convince them that they screwed up. And I’m like, look, if I got to go through this much trouble to convince you that you screwed up, you know, maybe I should just keep it, you know, and then like, you know, but well, and somebody’s going to get in trouble. Uh, or there’s a chance somebody’s going to get in trouble. So it’s on. And if you’re talking to the person, it’s going to get in trouble that it’s, it’s, they may want you to keep it. And I have had a situation. Uh, I had a situation recently where they ordered a drill bit. They sent me the wrong drill bit.

[00:06:47:22 – 00:07:17:10]
And so I, I call it, you know, when I called them back and I said, Hey, or I got all of them, I said, Hey, you sent me the wrong drill bit. And so they, and they sent me another one and I said, well, you want this one back? And I said, no, just keep it. See to me, that’s not, I’m they’re not stealing out. They’ve comped that to me. See? Yeah. Yeah. For your trouble. Yeah. They compensated me for my trouble. So that’s just, you know, if they want to, if, if a representative of the company wants to comp me something, yeah, I’m, I’m down with it.

[00:07:18:11 – 00:08:06:02]
Let’s see. And just, just so you know, Rick, if, if it wouldn’t have been a big box store, I, it would have been a mom, boss or I did this on the phone call it, but big box stores, I mean, I wasn’t calling anybody out. I know you weren’t. I was just thinking to you, a big, big box store, like Home Depot and Walmart. I mean, I was dropping a bucket. That’s a write off. Well, I don’t want to be a buzzkill here, but I think it’s important. Uh, Rick mentioned integrity and other ones, big words. Um, and I think for integrity, it shouldn’t matter. If the, the company, whether it’s insurance, medical, whatever, they can afford it because they’re big and they make billions of dollars. I think there’s a real problem with people thinking that, uh, if it’s a billionaire,

[00:08:06:02 – 00:08:33:01]
them. Uh, well, I’m not saying it for that purpose. I’m saying it because it used to be back in the day, places like Walmart and Home Depot actually had people that were intelligent, but they have chosen the higher people that are not intelligent. Could you have just gotten smarter? Is it possible? No, no, no, you used to be able to go to Home Depot and ask, ask a question and you had an educated person explaining it to you. You know, they had people in departments that knew their departments. Now they, they don’t

[00:08:33:01 – 00:08:49:23]
Now you ask them something and they have to pull up their phone and start typing and, you know, AI or whatever. Cause they’re, they’re, they’re dumber in a box of rocks. Um, all right. So, uh, Bob, are you with us? I see that you’re, you’re muted both on video and audio. Maybe you’re working.

[00:08:51:07 – 00:09:18:10]
Oh, there’s Kevin. Kevin’s done it. Oh yeah. So Kevin, perfect timing. We’re not even going to give you a chance to get, uh, get, get settled. Um, have you, or do you know of anybody that has ever returned a part but wasn’t the original part just so you could get like the free thing? Like, say you get an alternator and you go, well, I got one of those. That’s a off a similar year Jeep. I’m just going to return that one and get my money back. And then you got the new part and your money.

[00:09:20:00 – 00:09:38:12]
Um, I deal with it at work. We’ll have people, in fact, we just had this happen. Um, somebody bought a double den radio kit from us and then sent us a factory bezel telling us how it didn’t work. Geez.

[00:09:39:29 – 00:09:43:02]
So it wasn’t even similar. At least be smart about it.

[00:09:44:23 – 00:10:18:26]
I mean, I give it like on the, for the car reports I sell, that they’re similar, but the sizes and the construction of them are vastly different. Like the number of holes. I mean, the size of the hole. Come on. Yeah. So, and then like the factory part is, uh, like, uh, not, not blow molded, but it’s like a, what would you call it? No injection molded maybe, um, versus the one we sell is 3d printed. I mean, it’s very obviously a different part. Right.

[00:10:20:02 – 00:10:25:17]
And, uh, supposedly the car was at a shop having this installed and they couldn’t tell the difference supposedly.

[00:10:26:23 – 00:11:12:25]
So, uh, let me ask you how you feel about this, uh, in talking about this before you got here, uh, you should always be on time people. You never know what part of the conversation you’re going to miss. Um, but, uh, we found out by Rogers admission that he’s fine. If a big box store sends him something. Uh, it’s their mistake and too bad for them. But if it’s a mom and you got to go a little deeper than that, no, no, that’s where he draws the line. The one item, the one item I gave them three opportunities. I told them they didn’t ring it up and they were too stupid to do it after three times of trying and them screwing up and not noticing it. I just said that was it. So, and the other one, they took it out of the store and brought it to me.

[00:11:14:12 – 00:11:26:14]
Oh, I mean, if I order something and they send something extra in the box that I didn’t order, uh, I’m kind of like, well, that’s shells fault. I’m not paying to ship you something because you already screwed up.

[00:11:27:22 – 00:11:44:21]
Hey, you’re not wasting your time to fix their problem. No, um, but we need Travis here too. The mom, the mom, the big thing, like, cause I worked at it and you retailer and we are a mom and pop. We have four people in our entire building.

[00:11:46:13 – 00:11:54:24]
People will call us and they expect us to be the size of like a summit or, you know, quadra tech or something like that. And we’re like, no, we’re a mom and pop.

[00:11:56:11 – 00:12:05:22]
Um, and in fact, we had a guy come by today to like, just check the place out. But he’d just recently moved here from New York and he was like, I thought you guys would be bigger than this. And we’re like, Nope, this is it.

[00:12:08:01 – 00:13:17:15]
Just look at him and say genetics Pee Wee. I think, yeah, I think a lot of, a lot of companies want that though. They want you to think they’re big. Uh, so that they, they put it out there and so that it’s, it seems like they’re big, so I think companies do that to themselves, but there ain’t nothing wrong with my mom and pop, I think it’s great whenever you can, uh, uh, talk to somebody and, uh, well, it’s like when I do interviews here, uh, I mean, sometimes, and I’ve had great guests that I don’t want to say that they’re, they’re not as good a guest, but I really like talking to the owner, the guy who started it out of his garage because I think that’s the, I think that that’s the American dream is that you, um, that she starts something. Number one, you have a good idea and your wife thinks it’s a good idea. And then other people think it’s a good idea. And then you start making money on it. Uh, that’s, that’s a wonderful feeling. It’s like, uh, you know, uh, uh, you, you get to feel like you have a, um, that you’re somebody that people will recognize you for your efforts. So I think mom and pops are great. It’s nice when they get big, but, uh, I hate whenever they get sold, uh, to, uh, like, uh, financial guys that don’t know anything about what they bought.

[00:13:18:17 – 00:13:22:04]
Oh, like it, like a poison spider or something like that.

[00:13:23:09 – 00:13:23:15]
Exactly.

[00:13:25:07 – 00:13:44:24]
Yeah. I mean, I didn’t mean to say a name out loud. Well, and sometimes though, like people think companies are just like, they see a small business owner and they’re like, Oh, you own your own business, you must be rich. And my boss is like, no, I spent $3,000 today in shipping. I’m broke.

[00:13:46:01 – 00:13:51:25]
And they’re like, what do you mean you spent $3,000 in shipping? And he’s like shipping’s not free. It has to be paid.

[00:13:53:06 – 00:13:54:16]
And people don’t understand that.

[00:13:56:29 – 00:14:23:20]
Yeah. There’s a lot of expenses and they, and they, uh, ebb and flow. I mean, that’s just one of the reasons why we hear about the buzz term, uh, cashflow it’s real. Yeah. It is my cost money to make money. Well, in insurance, like my boss shops insurance every year. And for the past, see I’m coming up on three years, every year, his insurance cost has doubled. Oh, I don’t doubt it. I mean, they used to

[00:14:23:20 – 00:14:53:27]
about it at the company that I worked for. Uh, and that was, they were always switching this so they could get the, the best deal. Uh, and I don’t blame them. And even then it was expensive. We were a company I was in. I mean, we had, uh, uh, 80 people there in just the Houston location, but there were, uh, uh, salespeople across the country. And, uh, so it wasn’t a tiny company, relatively small. So, and the smaller the company, the harder it is to, uh, to get insurance pricing. And I just throw this out there. This isn’t what we were talking about, but

[00:14:53:27 – 00:16:14:22]
it. Um, well, if, if a big company can get better insurance rates for their, their employees, why can’t multiple companies join together so that your mom and pops, um, that are now not, not legally part of the set of a bigger company, but get the rate from a larger group of people, you know, like we were partnering with so-and-so for our insurance costs and get that insurance costs down to a manageable level, they won’t let people do that because it costs the insurance companies money. Well, I always think that the other reason why they wouldn’t want to do that is because you’d end up with companies that would want to be jumping insurance or jumping insurance plans on a regular basis. Because if you got two companies under the same insurance, let’s say one of them utilizes more of their insurance, which means the rates for both of them are going to go up. So both of them are getting penalized, even though one of them that day is having the issue. I guarantee a company with four employees is going to pay a hell of a lot more than 100 or 200. Well, I’m not even talking about health insurance though. I’m talking about just, you know, if we have a liability Greeks. Yeah, just lie a bit. Good God. Well, so there is something that actually is done like that. And I know because I’ve used, I use it. It’s a workman’s comp. Like I have to have a workman’s comp ghost. It’s

[00:16:14:22 – 00:16:25:27]
fucking stupid. It’s a ghost policy. It’s 900 bucks a year that I end up, but I can’t use it. Oh, it doesn’t help to protect the brokers. But for that, I know that I’m involved in a pool.

[00:16:26:28 – 00:16:33:08]
So it’s not just me. It’s like many, many drivers all on the same pool with the same stupid insurance.

[00:16:35:27 – 00:17:36:18]
All right. So I think everybody has integrity here, which is, uh, it’s not a requirement, uh, to be questionable because of the Jeep talk show community, but I like that. I mean, you know, I’m thinking, well, you guys know, I’m just kind of strange. And I thought with, uh, um, my good friend, uh, and even though I haven’t spoken with him in a, in several years, um, I just, I mean, I think you never really know a person. I think that you learn about people when you go and do things with them, maybe at EJS or whatever you go places and how they act and, um, but I think really you never really know a person. And, um, there’s, uh, there’s people out there that you think are good people, but they may have a little, little chinks in the armor about, uh, what they, what they think is okay and what’s not okay. So I was, I mean, that’s because we’re, we’re Jeep people. We’re not Toyota or Bronco people. We’re Jeep people. Somebody I prefer people with a certain moral flexibility. Good way of putting it.

[00:17:38:09 – 00:17:41:29]
I mean, for the right amount of money, I have no morals.

[00:17:43:20 – 00:17:54:20]
For the right amount of money, Bob will try to be flexible. Well, Bob, Bob knows and flexibility are both bought and paid for. Bob, now that you’re back, did you hear the question? Do I need to repeat it?

[00:17:55:24 – 00:18:38:02]
What’s the question? The question is say you have a, an alternator or a power steering, a box or something, and you go and you buy it from the, from the store, the auto zone, wherever you go get it, but you have another one that is similar to the, the one you replaced. Do you take it back? The old one? Do you take the, not, not, not a core. I’m talking about another one, take it back and to say, I don’t need this and get your money back. That way you, you get a free part. Uh, and, uh, basically the, uh, the company is now supporting your Jeep. It’s a, maybe you put a sticker on your Jeep to help help support them for their, for their effort on your vehicle. Uh, or do you know, know somebody, uh, you don’t have to answer it. You don’t have to out yourself.

[00:18:39:28 – 00:18:56:01]
You mean like, uh, say I bought some parts off of Amazon and I may have bought said, Hey, the part you were, you sent me doesn’t work and put a part back in a box that may not originally come in that box, send it back to Amazon for a refund.

[00:18:57:14 – 00:19:02:09]
Exactly. Yeah. Morally flexible. And I don’t like Amazon.

[00:19:02:09 – 00:19:04:11]
them.

[00:19:12:04 – 00:19:17:13]
Roger messed up the screen for the, uh, Oh, I know.

[00:19:21:29 – 00:19:25:20]
Are you, are you guys having a hard time here in Tony? I’m having a hard time here in Tony.

[00:19:27:25 – 00:19:35:21]
You guys are plenty loud, but I’m having a hard time here. How, how is that? Uh, this mic is pretty directional.

[00:19:38:09 – 00:19:38:27]
That’s better.

[00:19:42:24 – 00:20:08:18]
Rick, Rick didn’t respond. I don’t know if you heard me. Well, it, it got real loud for about a microsecond and then went back down quieter again. I mean, it is a little bit louder. It was. Well, I was just, I was just commenting. This mic is very directional. It may have been turned my head. Um, all right. So anyway, uh, so you know what I’m talking about, Bob, uh, do you, do that Rick used one of his big words and called it integrity. Do you think that’s a lack of integrity?

[00:20:11:29 – 00:20:15:15]
I don’t have much integrity. It goes with not having any morals.

[00:20:18:11 – 00:20:51:13]
You got a, a man’s got to know his limitations as a Clint Eastwood, a very big philosopher once said. All right. Well, good. Uh, I was just the, I was really asked asking, as I was explaining right before you jumped in, uh, that it just seems that maybe I’m just unrealistic about the way people are and the way people should be. Uh, speaking of how people are and the way they should be. Uh, and I think we’ve talked about this in the past. Um, what do you guys think about people that back in to a parking space?

[00:20:52:19 – 00:20:53:25]
Do you have an opinion on it?

[00:20:55:04 – 00:21:33:10]
That back into a parking space. Yeah. Instead of pulling forward like God intended. They back. I think, I think those people are awesome and very talented and can obviously drive better than everybody else because they’re capable of backing into a parking spot. So, uh, if somebody is waiting, uh, for the person that’s backing into their parking spot, if they’re waiting for you to navigate into that, that, that spot, what do you think, uh, about it then? Is that something that you, uh, you think is acceptable that, you know, Hey, I was here first. I just got to wait. Am I the person waiting or the person backing in? Yes.

[00:21:34:14 – 00:21:41:05]
Cover both of those in either situation. I don’t, I don’t, I don’t mind. Cause I back into parking spots. I do.

[00:21:43:04 – 00:22:47:19]
Why? What, one of the reasons why is I have found that even though people are waiting for parking spots, when you go to back out, they will sit there, they will, they will sit there and block you in where you can’t get out and you can’t see to get out. And then the other thing is that I’ve got a bunch of metal in my neck. So it’s hard for me to turn my head back around. And especially when I’m in the TJ, I don’t have camera system. So it’s easier for me to back in using my mirrors where I can see what I’m backing into as opposed to backing out of a parking spot where I can’t see what I’m backing into cause it’s traffic. Yeah. You know, this, it really just dawned on me. I feel kind of stupid, not thinking about this before. Well, and especially in a Jeep, when you have a spare tire on the back, uh, if you’re backing into a spot, there’s, you know, there’s not a vehicle there and there’s less likely not to be a person standing there or worse, somebody’s in a wheelchair because you don’t want to go with that. I mean, that’s going to be bad. If you, you back into a guy in a wheelchair, uh, down syndrome, a down syndrome, none in a wheelchair. Yes.

[00:22:48:28 – 00:23:00:16]
Well, there, there actually was like a, this has been years ago, but somebody big like F two 53 50 actually ran over somebody leaving a strip club here locally. They didn’t see them.

[00:23:03:07 – 00:23:45:14]
Um, so when you back in, you’re less likely to run into anything, uh, or over anybody, and then like you say, Rick, whenever you’re pulling out, it’s much easier to see and you have a lot more control. I think we should have a standard rear steering. I think that would help a lot of, a lot of these situations, uh, in the future. So, all right, good. Well, that makes sense. And I appreciate what you said because it gives me another perspective. And that’s really what I want because I don’t like having to wait for somebody to back into a space because they’re special. Well, the more you do it, the more practice you are at it, the quicker you are at it. Yeah. I was going to say, I think if you know what you’re doing, it shouldn’t take more than a few extra seconds to do it.

[00:23:46:18 – 00:23:50:13]
How about you, Bob? Are you pulling straight or are you back in?

[00:23:52:03 – 00:24:03:22]
I almost always try to find a spot with two open spots so I can just pull straight in and be aim nose out. Oh, I thought you were going to say you straddle the line. You take two spots.

[00:24:07:04 – 00:24:13:06]
Only if the snow bank is covering two spots. All right, Roger. How about you? You back in all the time, don’t you?

[00:24:17:03 – 00:25:09:29]
Oh, maybe Roger was leaving. Maybe that’s what he was saying in that chat thing. Um, so, uh, yeah, anyway, I mean, I like, I don’t mind backing in. In fact, I backed in today into the driveway and somebody had to wait for me to back in. Uh, so we went to the store, got some groceries and, uh, I thought it would be more convenient to put it on the, uh, the driver’s side instead of the passenger side. So I backed in. So the driver’s side was closer to the front door. So that’s, uh, that’s why I backed in also to, I need to replace the, uh, uh, the license plate light on the gladiator because it’s flickering. Um, it’s every, every one of these that I bought, I have one on the extra as well. Every one of these that I bought, eventually they start flickering, which I’m going to learn my lesson and stop buying them. All right. So, uh, anyway, this is great that you mentioned listening to, uh, Kevin, did, uh, did you get a chance to talk about backing in?

[00:25:11:05 – 00:25:41:20]
Well, it depends on what I’m driving. If I’m in a small car. No. If I’m in one of my big trucks, yes, because it’s actually easier to get the truck into the spot, backing it in. And then when I go to leave, it’s easier for me to see. Because you get the, uh, you could have a lot more control over the backend, uh, cause I hate that now that I’m, I mean, I love trucks, but, um, it is difficult parking a truck, even a small truck like the gladiator. Uh, it’s, it’s a lot more difficult than a TJ or even an XJ pulling into a parking spot forward.

[00:25:45:24 – 00:25:49:20]
And like I said, if you know what you’re doing, it only takes a few extra seconds. It’s not.

[00:25:50:28 – 00:26:37:14]
Long. Yeah. And even, even though it takes a few extra seconds, if somebody is like right up on top of me and they’re being impatient, some reason it takes me a few extra minutes to back into that space versus a few extra seconds, not that you’re, uh, not that you cause trouble, but, uh, not that I’d want to be an antagonist or anything. Oh, there we go. That’s another word that goes into the tourist. Well, is that like, uh, when you go and you get in your car at the grocery store, the work parking lot or something and somebody comes along and they see you like walking to the car, you’re still in loan groceries, obviously a few minutes from pulling up and they stop in the middle of the lane and block everybody else from going down because they’re going to get your good spot. Oh my God. I forgot about that. I make a phone call.

[00:26:40:06 – 00:26:51:18]
Yeah. To make a 20, I may have to watch my chicken in the backseat spoil and my screen melt out of pure spite for the fact that you stopped behind me. Does everybody here know what a fitbit is?

[00:26:52:22 – 00:26:53:00]
Yeah.

[00:26:54:04 – 00:27:05:20]
So my prediction is those people that are blocking the entire lane, because they’re waiting for that spot, that, that premier spot, that’s only halfway to the front door, uh, they have a fitbit on.

[00:27:08:01 – 00:27:15:02]
They, I gotta get closer. Well, you’re counting steps. Park out by the trees, man, and walk your

[00:27:15:02 – 00:27:15:19]
in.

[00:27:16:22 – 00:27:19:04]
Well, that’s, you know, like all the people that park up front at the gym.

[00:27:20:05 – 00:27:20:13]
Yeah.

[00:27:21:29 – 00:29:48:11]
That’s a good one too. All right. So Rick brought this up and I was going to talk about this anyway, but Rick brought this up. He doesn’t have, uh, cameras and the ability to, uh, that when he’s backing in or backing out, uh, he, it’s hard for him to see with his, uh, his massive Jeep, uh, massive spare tire. You got a spare tire on there, right? Or you’re not running a spare tire. Are you? No, I got a spare normally have a spare tire. Yeah. All right. So, uh, I was contacted at the Jeep talk show. I say I, but it was a Jeep talk show was contacted by Wolfbox. Uh, I think I mentioned this last week and they’re, uh, they’re interested in having the Jeep talk show do a review on a Wolfbox product. Uh, I didn’t know anything about Wolfbox. You guys had mentioned it just a few moments before I read the uh, from them and, um, I was looking at their stuff and, uh, I was drawn to the, the mirror, uh, I think that’s the one you guys were talking about, uh, uh, Bill bought, uh, from Wolfbox. So I did a little studying on the, uh, on the, on what they had to offer there. And I think obviously the, the one I would like to get is the one that has the three cameras. So, uh, have you looked at anything, uh, Rick, to help your situation, to see where you’re going? Uh, I mean, I understand in your situation, it’s just another thing that could get drowned in a lake, but still, uh, is that something you’re looking at? I’ve, I’ve, I’ve got one sitting on the shelf in the garage. I have, I’ve got to get installed. I just hadn’t had a chance to install it yet. So Atlas before the, uh, the mirror, please. Yeah. Atlas before Wolfbox says, yeah. So it is a Wolfbox, which model is it? I mean, does it have the two cameras, the three cameras or the one with the three cameras? Yeah. Um, do you have any, uh, skid plates on your, uh, like a massive skid plate underneath your, your TJ or here and there? I mean, the reason why I’m asking is because I’m, I’m going to get this as long as they don’t change their mind. I’m going to get this and I want to put that third camera down. Uh, but I have the full skid system on the gladiator, but I think I might be able to get it, I just have to put it on there and look, but I think I may be able to be able to get it. I don’t want it below the skid plate, obviously. Uh, but above the skid plate, at least enough where I think that it will survive a going off road. Just mount it to your front drive shaft. That way you can really get a.

[00:29:49:13 – 00:29:59:24]
A good idea because it’ll go up and down with your axle. That spins spin round and round the video. Uh, that’s what I think about. Uh, you could do that if it was a Bluetooth, right?

[00:30:01:26 – 00:30:52:28]
I wonder what RPM it would take to fling that thing off. Um, so, uh, what, okay. Are you planning on doing like the standard thing, which is, uh, one on the bumper, one on the front bumper, one on the rear bumper, and then, uh, if so, uh, you can describe it. It’s not, this, if this isn’t what you’re doing, are you planning on putting the third camera underneath so that you can see wheel on rock? I’m, I’m, I’m kind of back and forth on, uh, you know, I, I mean, there’s been several times like, you know, at Moab where you, you come up on top, you crest on top of something, it happened at Barrett Lake. There were several times you crest over the top of something. And, and I kind of felt like I really needed to get out and see what I was dropping into cause I could absolutely could not see what I was dropping into. And, uh,

[00:30:52:28 – 00:31:06:03]
revenge. I remember Bill and I going back and forth on the GMRS about, uh, not only for declendation, but the, uh, I can’t see where I’m going. Is there anything on the other side of this hill? It’s scary.

[00:31:07:28 – 00:31:08:03]
Yeah.

[00:31:09:09 – 00:31:13:01]
Or you can just always use the old fashioned method of, you know, G O A L

[00:31:15:20 – 00:31:16:09]
get out and look.

[00:31:17:12 – 00:32:39:28]
No, that’s the way you see outside. And that can be tricky in a, uh, manual, a manual TJ when you’re not a hundred, a hundred thousand percent confident in your, uh, e-brake. Did you, I was going to say, did you actually hook it up yet? Oh yeah. Yeah. No, I just looked up and I put a two door here. Here’s another oddball. I got a two door J K I used two door J K cables to hook up my e-brakes and they, they were direct, they were direct input. It just, I had to call it around once. Between the word connected and then call it around once. And then before it went to the, to that word connected on the axle, but it works. Great. Um, my, my wife’s TJ I’ve adjusted it. Actually the adjustment was, uh, was frozen. It was rusted. So I bought another one to replace it and adjusted it and it still won’t hold the TJ. Um, it moves it. It allows it to move this slowly, but it, and I pull it up so far that I, uh, that my wife can’t release it. She can’t pull it up enough to get the button to press. Have you tried to adjust it at the actual break instead is where you’re adjusting and the cable really isn’t, uh, the adjuster.

[00:32:41:02 – 00:33:10:24]
Well, when you back up, when you back up in the vehicle, it does the auto adjustment on the, uh, well, there’s, there’s, you can manually do it too. I know, I know, but why would I want to waste the pads? Uh, by adjusting it. I mean, it’s not somewhat sad. It just, I mean, it’s a little rubber, a little rubber plug on the back of the dust cover, you pop it out. No, I’m saying if you over adjust it now, the pads are going to rub. Yeah. You spend, you spend the thing around, but I never could, uh, with my TJ.

[00:33:12:00 – 00:34:03:27]
E-brake, you know, I never did feel real confident about it. I mean, and I put, I, you know, I even had a, uh, a break, uh, a local break shop here after I put it in, install it and couldn’t get it adjusted right. I took it up to them and said, how much you charge me to get these adjusted or set, right? Cause I’m not, I’m doing something wrong and they, and why wouldn’t picked it up. And it worked, it worked fine for about the first day I used it. Then the very next day it was right back to the, where it was when I had it. I was like, well, these, you know, these things just, you know, the TJ E-brakes are just weren’t that great. The ones on the, uh, JL, uh, they work real good and, and they’re easy to adjust. I may have to look at that and see if there’s a way, something that, a modification or something that’s been, that you can do to a TJ rear axle. So the, the emergency brake works better.

[00:34:04:28 – 00:34:07:24]
Well, you said something about happened to coil it up once, Rick.

[00:34:08:26 – 00:34:18:23]
Did you make, did you fasten it where you coiled it up, you fastened that coil down good cause I mean, that’ll affect your, uh, breaking too. Cause it allows the cable to flex.

[00:34:20:19 – 00:34:45:29]
You know what I mean? You talking about on my current situation. Yeah. You said something about you coiled it up and I mean, that’ll actually affect. Yeah. It’s it’s, it’s, it’s fastened and it, it actually acts, it actually acts like a, like a little bit of a helix spring cause of the way it’s coiled. It, it, when I, you know, when my, when my suspension, yeah, it.

[00:34:47:15 – 00:35:24:26]
It works good. It’s perfect. All right. So, so do you have any, any kind of, uh, idea when you’re going to be installing the, uh, the wolf box? Uh, I think it’s like a G 900, try pro or 900 pro try or something, uh, the model that I was looking at, which sounds like that’s the one you have. If it wouldn’t have been 106 degrees this week in the garage, I would have probably would have done it this week. Cause there’s been several times where I, I kind of wanted it, but, uh, you know, and I figured, you know, that’s going to be, I may do that before the Atlas, you know, I’ve got several, I’ve got several easier. Yeah.

[00:35:26:04 – 00:35:33:12]
I’ve got several electrical things I got to do before. Are they full mirror replacements now, or are they still that stupid clip on deal?

[00:35:34:26 – 00:35:48:26]
You can buy a mouth that goes replaces the arm for the rear view mirror. And there’s a guy who makes a dash mount, a 3d printed dash mount. So instead of putting it up in your window, you can mount it in down on your dash.

[00:35:50:29 – 00:36:00:10]
Okay. I was like, cause we sell a full mirror replacement at work. That’s very similar, except it’s like a hundred bucks cheaper.

[00:36:02:07 – 00:36:13:10]
And it’s not, you know, I’ve always just seen the clip on thing and I’m like, I hate the stupid clip on deal. I agree. Yeah. It’s actually, it’s actually rubber bands. I think it’s what they, what they come with.

[00:36:14:13 – 00:36:45:09]
It’s like those fist grip things. It pulls around. It’s kind of the rubber belt and it hooks, but I just bought the G9,000 Tri-Pro for 260 bucks. Yeah, that’s great. Cause I’m looking at the wolf box website and the G900 Tri-Pro. So 399.98. Um, I know I’m trying to work saying I just bought it for 260. Yeah. That’s what the one we sell at work costs.

[00:36:46:13 – 00:37:30:14]
Somewhere in that like 260, 270. So I don’t know if some of you guys watching this, this video, uh, weren’t aware of the, the wolf box, I wasn’t aware about it until this last week. I wasn’t aware of it until a wolf box sent the email. Uh, this is pretty cool. I like the idea of being able to see. Uh, and of course, many of you that have JLs or JTs, you already have a backup camera built into the Jeep. Uh, but one of the, the, the things that I like, cause I like dash camera recordings. You catch stuff whenever stuff happens is this thing is recording all three cameras. So not only are you seeing out the front, I’m sorry.

[00:37:32:29 – 00:37:48:03]
Oh, he’s talking to somebody. Um, so not only are you recording, uh, not only are you able to see when you, with your backup camera, you’re able to, um, record it and, uh, give it to the authorities when necessary.

[00:37:51:18 – 00:38:20:12]
Yeah. My boss, when he, uh, he had an accident in his 67 Firebird and well, his, his brake caliper came off and ripped the brake line loose and he actually gave, you know, the little SD guard to the police and he was like, here’s what happened, you can hear it break and you could hear it break in the video. And that’s how he got out of being criminally liable for anything. I mean, he was still liable as far as, you know, the rec, but like,

[00:38:21:15 – 00:38:25:24]
for his criminal, criminal liability, it was like, yeah, you hear the break come loose.

[00:38:27:00 – 00:39:11:26]
It’s amazing what you can do with audio engineering these days. Um, so, uh, I think this is a neat idea. I don’t know. One of the things that I saw on reviews was the, uh, you can’t use the, uh, the sun visor, uh, cause this thing is 12 inches across. I mean, it is nice to have enough screen so that you can see things. But, uh, if you need to put the sun visor down for some reason, you got to angle the mirror out of the way, uh, so that you can bring the sun visor down. So something to consider. Now this is on a, a JLGT. It may be different, uh, for like a TJ Rick. Yeah. I’m going to look at how that fits. And if, if it’s in the way, then I may put mine down on my mind down low. Yeah. You still have some buses.

[00:39:13:02 – 00:39:13:11]
Yeah.

[00:39:14:19 – 00:39:15:21]
I use them. I use them.

[00:39:17:01 – 00:40:31:07]
Anyway, it’s real. It’s a real cool camera system. And I really liked the idea. I think it also has a security feature so that it will, uh, uh, record if, uh, there’s a vibration or emotion or whatever. Who knows how much power this thing pulls. Yeah. Impact. Who knows how much power this thing pulls whenever the, uh, the Jeep is asleep, you know, not running, uh, which could be a concern, but, uh, I think it’s really neat. I’m looking forward to, uh, um, getting it and doing a review on it. Hopefully you guys are interested in, uh, on seeing what, uh, seeing the review and hearing what I think of it. I was really happy to find out that because I have a cheap gladiator, I have a, a, a sport S max tow that I do not have to worry about the, uh, the, the dash cam on the back of them error being blocked by that cluster of sensors that say Rubicon owners, uh, have, um, there on the, uh, on the windshield. So if you’re thinking about getting one of these things and you got that big black box that’s behind your, uh, or in front of your rear view mirror, uh, that black box will obscure quite a bit of the, uh, the dash cam. Uh, that’s on the back of the mirror.

[00:40:34:25 – 00:40:35:03]
Yep.

[00:40:36:22 – 00:41:07:07]
You shouldn’t have that at all, Rick. Yeah. One of the things I liked about it is like, uh, so bill would reach up like his, like his front camera or the back, whichever camera it was, I don’t know. I think it was maybe his front one, but he would reach up and he would touch the mirror and he would push up on the mirror and the, and the camera would actually, the, the video would pan down. I don’t know that the camera pan down, but the image would pan down. And so you, you know, he could look up or look down a little bit. That’s great. That’s very cool.

[00:41:08:17 – 00:41:24:08]
Uh, and I don’t know if you guys have much trouble with people, um, angry drivers, uh, road rage people, but I think with a 4k camera, both on the front bumper and the rear bumper, you should be able to get a license plate numbers pretty easy. You could be your own flock camera.

[00:41:25:15 – 00:41:29:23]
Oh, I’ve already used dash camera footage is the whole people liable.

[00:41:31:12 – 00:41:40:18]
I think I love guy cut me off. Yeah. I love dash cams and I think everybody should have one. Just be careful how you drive though, because it can affect you as well.

[00:41:42:20 – 00:42:00:05]
Well, you don’t have to give them all the footage. You just give them the burden to footage. That’s called a, what is it? Uh, uh, withholding evidence or destruction of evidence. Uh, so it might only got a three minute old. It might be easier for you to well, and they could recover that stuff. Nothing’s ever deleted.

[00:42:01:12 – 00:42:27:21]
Yeah. Well, I’ve never had to give anybody the actual footage. I’ve just let them watch it. Yeah. Well, I mean, unless you’re at fault, uh, I mean, or partially at fault, or you did something prior to the prior to the incident, uh, that, uh, that, that, that, they can go back, uh, that far on the, uh, on the thing. And if it’s a, if it’s got GPS hooked up to it, they know what kind of speed you were doing is just depends on how much of an

[00:42:27:21 – 00:43:38:15]
the police want to be. Are you still recording? Yes. Oh, no self-incrimination. No, I was not that I was just curious. I didn’t want to filibuster was a non-depoly to tip. So our, uh, if our viewers are, uh, are curious about what Roger has to say, that’ll be in the members only, uh, portion. Cause I’ll tell him we’re not recording. So come on. No, I’m just, I’m just picking on you. I get it. All right. We’re going to wrap up here in a second anyway. So, uh, anybody else, uh, think that a, uh, uh, any kind of mirror, whether it’s been the one that, uh, uh, that, uh, Kevin sells at his shop or the, the Wolf box, I think Wolf box is just a, a big name brand. And at first, when they first contacted me, I thought this was a China company, but I see that they’re actually out of Colorado. I don’t know if there’s a China connection there or not, but it seems like there’s a, this, this may be a USA company, which I like. I think it’s made overseas, but sold out of it’s. But what was that seen in Armageddon? American technology, Russian technology, all made in Taiwan.

[00:43:40:20 – 00:43:46:08]
Assembled in the U S. Well, you always want to make a profit for the company. Assembled in Mexico. Yeah.

[00:43:48:10 – 00:44:06:07]
All right. Anybody else? Uh, I think, uh, you know what? And of course this doesn’t have to go in a Jeep. I think Bob is not using his TJ as much. Bob, have you, have you thought about, uh, putting one of these things in your, uh, non Jeeps, uh, the one I bought is going in the Tundra. There you go.

[00:44:07:16 – 00:44:12:19]
I think I’m late to the party. I’m glad they contacted me because I don’t want to spend no $400 for this thing.

[00:44:14:17 – 00:45:14:06]
Yeah. When I get, uh, when I get my 16 to 18 foot box truck, I’ll put one in it for sure. Yeah. Well, seeing is amazing and making it easy to see is, is even better. Uh, I suspect I may be buying one though, because the wife drives the, uh, the JT a lot and she may get to where she really likes it, uh, and wants one in her TJ, so we’ll see, see how that goes. All right, guys, a fun conversation. Thank you very much for joining us. Here we had a, uh, uh, what do we wind up with five people, uh, here, which, uh, the numbers vary from week to week. Uh, so, uh, I mean, if you’re concerned about us, pick it on you, we always pick on Roger, so as long as Roger is here and you can see the names when you join, as long as Roger’s here, you’re probably pretty safe. So, cause Roger would be the one we pick on the most. So join us, uh, every, uh, every Tuesday, 7 30 PM central time. Uh, just go to Jeep talk show.com. Slash round table with the super secret
