Red Jeep Found After 1 Year Missing + California Tire Ban
Jeep Talk Show – Tragic Oregon Jeep Discovery, California’s Tire Ban (2029/2033), Shopping Cart Roundtable & More
Well hey Jeepers, welcome back to another jam-packed episode of the Jeep Talk Show with Tony and Josh. We open on a somber note with the recent discovery of a crashed 2005 red Jeep Wrangler off Highway 6 in Oregon’s Tillamook area. Loggers/ODF personnel found the vehicle (linked to a September 2025 missing persons case out of Beaverton) along with skeletal remains believed to be those of Eddie Hair (Hare) and Scott Smith, both in their late 60s. Official identification is pending (dental records/personal effects), but the registration and circumstances point strongly to the two men who never returned from an outdoor/wheeling trip. We discuss the tragic accident angle, the “red Jeep curse” running joke since 2020, and some classic banter about James Dean and why red Jeeps seem to stick in people’s memories.
Then we dive deep into California’s brand-new Replacement Tire Efficiency Program (approved by the CEC in mid-August 2026). Starting with tires manufactured on or after January 1, 2029, replacement passenger and light-truck tires sold in California must meet a maximum rolling resistance of roughly 9.0–9.1 N/kN (with a minimum wet-grip requirement). Phase 2 tightens it further to about 7.1–7.2 N/kN beginning January 1, 2033. Industry estimates suggest this could eliminate ~70% of current tire models from California shelves.
Listener voicemails follow (including DR in Utah checking in after a long absence and sharing updates on the Jeep Scrambler/IFS talk plus personal notes, and Nicky G with a string of classic dad jokes).
Then it’s Round Table time: When (and why) do you put the shopping cart/basket/buggy back? Tony fires off a rant about free labor and shaming stickers; the crew (Glenn, John Lee, Rick, Bob, Travis and others) share honest takes ranging from “always, respect/karma/old-school raising” to “only if it’s right next to me—I’m not working for the store.” Robots, Walmart in-home delivery, and future trail-side parts robots even make an appearance.
We close the “F*CK You, You F*CK” segment with a heated takedown of drivers who come to a near-complete stop to turn into a strip-mall, Burger King, or driveway—white-knuckle, wedding-cake-in-the-trunk style. Pit maneuvers and cow-catcher fantasies ensue.

Episode Transcript
[00:00:00:08 – 00:04:24:15]
Well, hey Jeepers, welcome back to another episode of the Jeep Talk Show and boy, we’ve got a jam-packed chock full episode for you today of all kinds of stuff. Now, I’m gonna start things off with a little bit of a somber note this time around. This actually takes back to a story that probably got news coverage last year as something popped up here in my local area in my stomping grounds where I typically go out and wheel and whatnot, where some Jeep was found. And the registration to the Jeep will actually harks back to a missing persons report from about a year ago, September in 2025, in the Beaverton area, two men were reported missing after heading out to ostensibly a wheeling trip and never returned. Fast forward to just about a couple of days ago and there was some work being done by some, I think some ODF or in Department of Forestry personnel off of Highway 6, which travels from the Portland Metro area West out over the mountain range out to the coast. And they had discovered a Jeep that had careened off the roadway above and down into a very steep embankment and had been there for quite some time. They referred to what they had seen at the site as skeletal remains. Oh no. They have not identified, obviously they’re gonna have to go back to seeing what as far as personal effects may still be there that can be identified. And if there’s anything that there that can point them in the right direction, they’ll probably end there. Otherwise we’re looking at dental records at this point. But it is believed by the authorities who responded to this that these are two men who were reported missing. Their names are Eddie Hare and Scott Smith and they are no longer with us. But it is interesting that this is a Jeep. This was a 2005 Jeep Wrangler that they were in. I don’t know the level of modification to it. I do know that both men are in their late, they were in their late sixties. Whether that had anything to do with it, whether there was alcohol involved, none of that is known. Whether or not there was weather conditions that forced them off the road, whether it was wildlife, we actually have no idea and likely never will. I don’t know how deep this investigation is gonna go. I imagine they’re going to look for initial signs of foul play. But since the remains of both individuals are still with the vehicle, I’m gonna assume that they’re probably just going to leave things as are as this was a tragic accident. Now, one thing that I noted in this, and this is sort of traveling down a bit of a rabbit hole and putting a bit of a humorous spin on things, if you will, Tony, I noticed this was a red Jeep. And since 2020, we’re harking back to the days of the Jeep that creamed off a black bear pass, which was also a red Jeep. Now this tallies into, well, out of all of the fatal accidents involving a Jeep that we’ve reported on since 2020, over the last six years, the majority of them have been red Jeeps. So I’m gonna say it might be time to sell the red Jeep and go to something, a color that is less dangerous. Let’s put it that way. So let me ask you this, you’re reporting this like, these are the two men that died in this tragic accident. But you don’t know yet, right? Because they haven’t done the dental records. They haven’t officially identified it. Everything is like- These are the two people that are missing and they’ve been missing about this time. So it’s likely that it is them, but right now, it’s officially, it’s unknown. The vehicle is registered back to one of these individuals. One of these individuals was part of the missing persons report from September of 2025. So all signs are pointing towards that this, unless these gentlemen stole the vehicle and that person is still missing. I mean, I said- No, no, I agree with you. I just wanna make sure we didn’t, we’re leaving it open or assuming that this is the people, especially since we gave the names. So how long ago did this crash happen? September of 2025 is when the missing persons report was filed. So what you’re saying is it was a black Jeep, but it could have rusted by now and lowly looks red.
[00:04:24:15 – 00:05:21:13]
So yeah, Tony, I mean, I suppose, sure, it could have been rusty red, but no, everything is leading to believe that this is the 2005 red Jeep Wrangler that was involved with the persons report and that these two individuals, that the remains of two individuals that were found in there- Now this is an old movie. This is an old movie, but do you remember Rebel without a cause? Oh, vaguely, yeah, timely reference there, Tony. Yeah, but I’m just saying that, I forget the actor’s name, but he made a big splash in Hollywood and he died in a big crash. And unfortunately I don’t remember his name, but I mean, there’s a reason why red Jeeps are really cool. Because you’re always gonna be remembered. Not like if you have a white vehicle or, you know. I’m just saying- Yeah, who knows the color of James Dean’s car? Nobody doesn’t remember. There we go, James Dean. That’s exactly what I was trying to think of.
[00:05:24:10 – 00:05:55:13]
Good side. You know, don’t pick a fight if you can’t hang. Tragic accident, but nonetheless, I’m trying to put a humorous spin on it with the whole red Jeep thing. No, I agree. For those who are new to the show, Tony has a bit of a bias towards red Jeeps. Three red Jeeps. Yes, three of them actually. So yeah, one might consider that a problem, but- And mine runs. Yeah, well. (Both Laughing) I’m not in danger of creating a cliff in mine. Don’t start nothing you can’t handle.
[00:05:57:02 – 00:09:40:19]
Well, speaking of handling and starting things, California is starting some stuff, Tony, that I think is gonna piss a lot of people off. And I know we’ve got a ton of listeners in California. And if you are a California resident, you wanna pipe up, you wanna listen to this, because this is definitely going to affect you in the next several years. So California in their infinite wisdom, this is the state that thinks everything is gonna give you cancer, is actually going to start banning certain kinds and types and brands of tire. I heard about this. I couldn’t believe this shit. This is getting national news. So chances are you or somebody you know has already heard about this to a certain extent. I’m going to go ahead and peel the band-aid off of this thing and really kind of show you what it’s all about. Please do. So I think ultimately what this is gonna cause is about 70% of the available tire market being illegal in the state of California. I know, seriously, what they’re trying to do is they’re trying to protect the environment, right? That’s what it’s all about, is all about the environment. The greenie weenies are at it again. And they think that the tires that come on the vehicle are the optimal tires as engineered by the auto manufacturer. They choose the tire with the least rolling resistance that has the highest efficiency that is going to give that vehicle the highest MPGs possible. So it’s all about rolling resistance. And this gets deep into the weeds and gets into some pretty sciency geeky type of stuff. Basically after 2029, or I’m sorry, starting in 2029, so that’s just in less than three years, about two and a half years from now, they’re going to put a limit on tire sales. And any tire sold in the state of California is gonna have to have a rolling resistance level of 9.1 Newtons per kilonewton or less. Now, I don’t know exactly what that means in scientific terms. It’s basically just a drag coefficient measurement. How much resistance does the tire put on that contact patch as it’s rolling down the road? How much Newtons of force does it take to roll that tire, essentially? There’s gonna be a couple of phases of all of this. Now phase one starts in, like I said, 2029. Phase two is going to start in 2033, sorry. And that’s when they’re going to drop things down even further and the maximum rolling resistance is going to be 7.2 Newtons per kilonewton. Now, what that means essentially is that it has to have a much less rolling resistance than previously, than what you’d previously have bought. Now, there are a ton of tires that are gonna be on the chopping block. And what this is gonna mean is that essentially, if you are a California state resident, you are not gonna be able to buy these tires in the state of California. From what I understand so far, if you do have a set of these tires, either on your rig already or you go out of state and buy them and live in the state of California and have these quote unquote illegal tires on your Jeep, you’re not gonna be fined. There’s not gonna be any punitive measures. And if your vehicle has to go through any inspection service. So they’re screwing the tire companies, the tire shops in California. Yes. So essentially, now what this is gonna do, is it’s going to increase the, I mean, because look at how much of a,
[00:09:42:10 – 00:12:05:10]
how much of the GDP do you think comes out of California? How much buying power, how much commerce happens in California? California and New York are the largest states in the nation. They have the highest level of population, the largest population density. And because of that, their markets pretty much run everything else. And of course, California tries to, try to run the standard for everybody else. Everybody needs to follow the California standards. Well, not on my watch, if you ask me, but that being said, what this is gonna do is it’s going to make tire manufacturers jack their prices up because their biggest customer base now is not going to be able to buy their tires, at least not in state. So that means you’re gonna have to go out of state to go buy those tires. That means on tire rack or Amazon or wherever else you might buy tires online, you’re not gonna be able to have those tires shipped into the state of California either. They’re gonna have to be shipped to a tire shop outside of California, over there in Oregon or over in Arizona or into Texas, wherever. And you’re gonna have to go over there to go get those tires. And I’m not even sure what the compliance is gonna be as far as the tire shops go, whether or not they’re going to mount and balance these tires either. So again, phase one starting in 2029, phase starts in 2033. And at that point, it’s gonna be nearly impossible to find a certain kind of tire. Now, what kind of tire is going to be on the chopping block? Well, obviously it’s gonna be a tire with a lot of rolling resistance on it. Now, there are some exceptions. Now, thankfully, California does have at least a couple of brain cells to rub together. And they realize that they are a huge motorsport state in the nation. And there’s a ton of racing that goes on in California, both on-road and off-road. And that is a massive amount. I mean, millions if not billions of dollars of industry that is happening within the state in both on-road and off-road racing. Obviously, they can’t make those tires illegal because they would essentially make off-road and on-road racing in California illegal or not possible or completely changing the rules, which would actually fuck up the whole sport completely.
[00:12:06:11 – 00:13:57:11]
And so when you’re talking about lap times and things like that, and what it costs for the race teams to equip their race cars and whatnot. So obviously, there’s gonna be some exceptions. Thankfully, deep tread mud terrain tires are part of the exception. However– Really? That’s amazing. However, well, here’s the catch. Here’s where things are gonna get really tricky and get kind of nasty. So we’ve seen over the last five or 10 years or so an increase in what we’re calling hybrid tires. They’re not really a mud terrain. They’re not really an all terrain. They’re something kind of in between. And a lot of people are really, really digging these tires because they give you the best of both worlds. They give you a little bit less rolling resistance. You don’t have quite the drag coefficient on the tire that you would with a massive mud terrain. It’s a little bit more road friendly. It has a little bit better mileage on it. You’re gonna get a couple more miles to the gallon probably. And it’s a little bit more easier on the wear and tear of the tire itself and the vehicle itself. So obviously, these things are gaining a lot of traction, pun intended. And so this is one of these things where all of those tires are going to be on the chopping block. All those hybrid tires that fall somewhere in between an all terrain and somewhere in between a mud terrain are absolutely going to be on the chopping block. You are not gonna be able to buy them. You’re not gonna be able to equip them. You’re not gonna be able to run them in California. So this is, and what is that gonna do to the tire market in general? When you take out one of the largest markets and buying power for this specific brand of aftermarket good, suddenly you don’t have as much, the tire manufacturer doesn’t have as many customers. Well, if they’re not selling as many tires, this is all, you know, what’s the term
[00:13:59:01 – 00:15:11:29]
where people buy things it’s selling and buying and it’s not beat and switch, Christ, what the hell is the term? I’m brain farting on this. Anyways, essentially how things are priced out by the number of sales that has happened. If you have less sales, you’re gonna jack up the price. Absolutely, it’s gonna increase price because you don’t have the same demand. Right, and so there is going to be supply and demand. That was the term I was looking for. So this is definitely going to affect everybody as far as tire prices go. So if you’re even thinking that you might need tires between now and 2029, I would think now would be the good time to start stocking up on tires, honestly. So let me ask you this. Obviously this is going to affect, especially the mom and pop tire dealerships. Oh, big time, yeah. It definitely does not hurt the national chains as well, but I think less so because they have the other 49 states or 48 states to sell in. But you know, I thought about our friend Tony at Genrite. So why would you build a Jeep in California if you can’t buy the fucking tires that you need for it?
[00:15:13:07 – 00:15:27:09]
Well, no, so here’s the thing. So mud terrains are an exception. You can still run, you can still buy the mud terrains. Now that doesn’t mean that the mud terrains are going to cost the same in 2029 or 2030 as they did in 2028 or 2027.
[00:15:28:21 – 00:18:04:22]
I think as this starts to roll out, we’re gonna see a massive spike in tire prices. And it’s gonna go across the nation. It’s not gonna be just for California. It’s not gonna be just for the West Coast. It’s gonna happen across the nation. And like you said, all the tire manufacturers, this is gonna affect everybody across the board. But it’s because California is such a big market and has such a large motorsport following in the state that it is going to absolutely drive a lot of the prices sky high. Now, this is gonna affect not only the consumer, but also the tire manufacturer as well, because they’re not going to be able to sell these tires in one of their largest markets. So this may end up being one of these things where this is the beginning of the end. We might see the end of tires as we know it. That doesn’t mean we’re gonna be going all into moon unit tires or something like that. This isn’t gonna be anything where we’re all gonna be running street tires now from now on. You can still buy the mud trains. They are exempt. It’s just some of the all-terrains and some of the hybrid tires are going to be on the chopping block. They’re exempt for how long? And I can’t believe that California has- That’s the key. I can’t believe that California hasn’t jumped on a taxing plan. So yeah, you can have your big tires, but you’re gonna have to pay to have them because you’re tearing up the environment. We need to extra extra. So we can pay for supporting all these people that are here illegally. Look at the history of the income tax. The income tax, when it first started, really was only on the highest of income earners. Well, as we all know, the government- You can’t make money that way. Day is long. No, and so the tax of course went down to everybody else eventually. And now we’re all income tax. And it was always planned that way. They knew that there wasn’t enough millionaires, billionaires, et cetera. This is no different. I believe this is gonna be the same thing. There’s going to be a phase three, even though they’re only listing two phases. There’s going to be a phase three and phase three is going to be, you are all going to rock the street tires, the highway tires. No more mud terrains because they have too much rolling resistance, or it’s going to be off-road use only. Which means your daily driver now has to have street tires. You can still have the mud terrains. They gotta be on a separate set of rims because God forbid you’re caught on I-5 with a set or a 405 with a set of mud terrains on. State patrol is going to nail you to the wall. A lot of jokes about the never skip leg day, I predict.
[00:18:05:25 – 00:18:48:06]
So it’s one of these things. This is going to have a massive effect on the industry as a whole. Off-roading, jeeping, the building of off-road vehicles in general and how we customize them. I believe that California, and this may end up getting fought. Don’t know right now. By who? The whole damn place is full of Democrats. Exactly. I think it’s going to require a lot of the tire manufacturers getting together to do some sort of a class action suit or something like that. They’re going to have to do the state of California to put a stop to this. So I’m thinking of something else. I’m thinking of something else, Josh. Part of Canada wants to be the 51st state. I say we make a trade.
[00:18:52:12 – 00:19:03:18]
Yeah, no doubt. We’ll give you California, but we need Quebec. Yes, exactly. I don’t think you know, we don’t want those people. They’re crazy. Yeah. Canadian say.
[00:19:05:21 – 00:19:41:23]
So yeah, look out for this. This is on the radar. It is going to happen. I believe that this is going to get rolled out before it has a chance of getting fought in the courts. Right now, there doesn’t seem to be any legal standing against this. They seem to have all the power of the courts against, with them. And everything seems to be lining up to where this is going to be rolling out in 2029. This is going to affect everybody regardless. This is what they’re doing. California has decided that they are going to bite off their nose despite their face. Oh yeah. They’re doing it with the oil refineries.
[00:19:43:19 – 00:20:45:15]
They’re doing it with the natural gas ban. And now they’re doing it with the tires. And pretty soon it’s going to be, well, you have to, I mean, they tried doing this with the semi trucks, saying that if you’re going to transport any goods within the state of California, coming in or going out within the state border, it has to be done by an electric truck. That doesn’t work. It doesn’t work, you know, going over the mountains. They can’t haul the same kind of, same amount of cargo. They don’t have the same kind of range. It was an absolutely dumb idea because the Greenie Weenies are just trying to virtue signals saying, look at how environmentally conscious we are. Aren’t we grand? Yeah. And I’ve made, I mentioned this in the past. The plan for California by Californians is to get rid of all those nasty, ugly people. They don’t want people in there. And I think that the United States should just make it a park. You can visit California, but you can’t live there. I mean, you can camp extended. Oh, I’m sorry. They already have extended camping in San Francisco, don’t they?
[00:20:46:24 – 00:24:04:28]
Yeah, pretty well. It’s all pretty much the West coast because it’s up here in Oregon. This is so stupid. It’s just stupid. Entirely, entirely. I mean, why, I mean, I understand why because California is so effing liberal. It’s not even funny. They, I mean, it’s beyond a joke at this point of how liberal things have gotten. I mean, there’s a couple of other states that are cities that are getting really freaking close. But nonetheless, California has taken a hat on this one. And this is not the end. I’m, like I said, I’m sure there’s gonna be a phase three. I’m sure that there’s gonna be other things that are gonna kind of fall in suit with this, saying that you need to have a certain aerodynamic value to your vehicle. And so we’re gonna see manufacturers, making nose cones for Wranglers or something. It’s gonna be, I mean, it’s gonna get stupid because it already is so retarded that California is pulling this sort of stuff. You have the largest amount of oil refineries in the nation compared to Texas, and you’re gonna shut down your refineries. You pretty much supply the entire West Coast with gasoline, which runs the entire commerce of the nation, if not the world, and you want to eliminate it from your state. How dumb do you have to be? It just like, you’re, I don’t know. There’s no analogy that can make sense, make this make sense. So I think sometimes what they do is they’re only interested in the next election. So what can I do to impress my constituents to vote for me, I can’t even pronounce the word, to vote for me so I can stay in power? What happens in 20 or 10, 15, 20 years? I don’t care. I will have already been in office, I will have already made my money, and I will move to Texas, Florida, or Tennessee, so that I don’t have to pay these absorbent taxes and deal with this crap that I got put in place. I seriously think, because it can’t be any other explanation, because it is just nonsensical. It’s not logical, it’s feelings. And it’s not, and feelings shouldn’t be greater than facts and logic. So I’m gonna kind of step back from the whole Jeep aspect of this for a second and really talk to literally everybody else out there within the sound of my voice. So if you’ve got a sports car, you’ve got a daily driver, it’s a sedan, whatever, you’ve got the family vehicle. Obviously you want the safest, most, the best tires you can put on your family vehicle to keep the family safe, to make sure that that vehicle can stop on a dime, make sure it can maintain its lane, and make sure that it can handle a corner in just about any sort of weather, including inclement weather. So you want a tire that is nice and sticky. You want a tire that has great tread compound. And yes, that might mean, especially with sports cars, that you don’t get quite the mileage out of that tire that you ordinarily would. It’s not gonna be a 60,000 mile tire. It’s gonna be a 20 or 30,000 mile tire at best. But you’re getting the performance out of that tire. You’re paying that little bit of extra for that sticky compound, for that tire that’s going to grip, for that tire that is going to be safe, that can stop you a little bit sooner. And now all of those tires are no longer going to be available to you
[00:24:06:04 – 00:24:34:24]
because they don’t have the rolling resistance value that California is looking for. So isn’t there some great places to drive, like S type things and steep curves, and there’s supposed to be some really cool driving in California, I think along the beach. Think about the PCH, the Pacific Coast Highway. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, I mean, that right there, we’ve seen it in movies for decades. I think Tony Stark was driving on it in one of the Marvel movies.
[00:24:36:01 – 00:25:28:14]
It is one of the most iconic roadways in the nation. And yes, you are going to have an issue with this because now your tires are going to have to be parked. Slipping inside, into the ocean, yes. Yes, especially during wet conditions. And I don’t think that they really realize what they’re doing here. Well, these people don’t understand this. They don’t understand science, they don’t care. Because you’re right, they don’t understand science, they understand virtue signaling. They understand that, well, we need to make cars because CO2 is bad. It’s not plant food, it’s not what all of the plants on the entire planet are required to need to breathe in order to produce oxygen so that we can breathe. No, it’s all about, well, gasoline is bad, carbon is bad, anything that produces any kind of anything is bad, it’s not broccoli.
[00:25:30:05 – 00:25:30:22]
Calis and Cali.
[00:25:31:28 – 00:26:38:13]
Well, we’re gonna be driving bicycles. I mean, the state of California is gonna require electric bicycles from now on. This whole tire thing reminded me of my Swin 10-speed bicycle that had these tiny little skinny tires on it so that the rolling resistance was very low so you could go very fast on the 10-speed. And I think that if I remember right, the air pressure was 80 or 90 PSI. Those were rocks that I was driving on. So I thought of the bicycle thing as soon as you started talking about this stuff. Yeah, so one of the biggest tire manufacturers that come to mind is obviously BF Goodrich. And they have probably one of the most iconic tires around the BF Goodrich all-terrain tire. It has been an industry standard on Jeeps and light trucks as long as I can remember. The tread pattern hasn’t changed really in decades. And this has been one of the most iconic tires on the planet. In phase two, starting in 2033, those tires will be banned.
[00:26:39:28 – 00:26:41:26]
(Laughing) Yes.
[00:26:43:01 – 00:27:02:03]
So you’re not gonna be able to buy them in the state of California, you’re not gonna be able to equip them. You can own them, they can be on your vehicle, you just can’t buy them in the state of California. So yeah, it’s pretty much like the cheaper that you want it, the farther away from California you’re gonna have to go. I’m so glad I live in Texas.
[00:27:03:13 – 00:27:26:09]
Now I gotta get off the West Coast. This is getting insane, man. I just, this liberal retardation of this kind of eco-nut BS is getting out of hand. And I know there’s people out there like, “Well, this is all to protect the environment, you stupid son of a bitch. You don’t know what’s good for you. We know what’s best for you. We’re gonna do what we need to do to protect you from yourself.” Yep.
[00:27:27:20 – 00:27:59:08]
Fuck you. Yes. (Laughs) Yeah, I was just thinking because we’re getting very political on here and I decided exactly that, fuck you. Go listen to another podcast that sucks your dick. We’re not gonna do it. Yeah, so I know that there’s going to be a fair amount of people that are in our listener base that are gonna be like, “Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. I’m for all that.” And then there’s gonna be a lot of people that are like me that are going to be a little pissed off even though they don’t live in California. And then there’s gonna be all those California listeners that are gonna be like, “What the fuck?”
[00:28:01:23 – 00:28:02:00]
Yeah.
[00:28:03:17 – 00:29:39:08]
Oh, jeez. All right, so honestly, if you’re in the state of California, I want to hear your thoughts on this. What are you thinking this is going to, how this is going to affect you? I want you to call the show. I want you to email the show. I want you to use the voicemail, the video voicemail and chime in on this because I think the more discussion that we have on this, the more we hear people’s opinions on this, the more light is shed on this, and the more that we can point out the stupidity of it all, I think the better chance we have of putting this to rest and putting a stop to this, hopefully before it can get rolled out. It’s not gonna get put to rest until you start voting for conservatives in California. I know, I know, are you on the West Coast entirely? I mean, in general, but you’re right, you’re right, Tony. It doesn’t matter how much the red states, how much better the red states are doing, and how many people are moving to the red states. It’s like, that’s fine, we don’t need them here. You will eventually. I mean, for example, you’ve heard about, maybe you haven’t, all the stuff that SpaceX and Tesla are building in Texas, the largest building in the world is gonna be built, and not Brookshire, that’s the other big building they’re building here for solar panels and stuff. By any right, this stuff should have been built in California, but Newsom or Newscom pissed Musk off, and he got the hell out of there, and now he’s building stuff in Texas, and I guarantee you, we like it, we appreciate it.
[00:29:40:21 – 00:30:32:23]
There’s been a mass exodus of companies leaving Oregon, Washington, and California because of a lot of these kinds of policies that are coming out, and we can go down a whole deep rabbit hole of political discussion about this whole thing, and West Coast politics, and red versus blue, and left versus right, and all that sort of stuff, but ultimately, a lot of this comes down to common sense, and common sense seems to be less and less common more and more as we go on, and this is just one shining example of it. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, it’s the difference between playing tic-tac-toe, or even just checkers, not even chess, because it’s like raising the minimum wage to $20 an hour or whatever they would like there to be. You don’t think that’s gonna increase cost on things?
[00:30:33:28 – 00:31:19:29]
You, sir, can’t play tic-tac-toe. Yeah, seriously, they’re talking, just on phase one, there being a substantial increase, but if this goes all the way to phase two, tire manufacturers are gonna have no choice, but to both adapt and to do some correction, some market correction, and what that’s gonna mean is jacking up prices to compensate, and that’s gonna be across the board, whether it be for the tires that you’re gonna put on your Geo Metro, or whether the tires are going on your Chevy 35. Yeah, oh yeah, everybody’s gonna pay. It’s across the board. So Josh, we’ve had a lot of fun with this subject, and I’m sure pissed a fair amount of the audience off. Sure. There was two things you wanted to cover. What was the other one?
[00:31:21:00 – 00:31:36:06]
Well, the first one was the Jeepers who were found here at Oregon who had been missing for about a year, and then this was the second one. There is one more thing that we need to get to, which is something we haven’t done in a couple of weeks, which is a fuck you, you fucking fuck. Excellent.
[00:31:37:07 – 00:31:37:28]
All right,
[00:31:37:28 – 00:31:45:24]
Talk show. It’s me, DR, out here in Utah. And I just got through listening to that.
[00:31:47:05 – 00:31:50:10]
That episode about that new Jeep scrambler.
[00:31:51:14 – 00:31:53:20]
Yeah, IFS, I don’t know.
[00:31:54:28 – 00:32:26:20]
Good thing or bad thing, but anyways, thought I’d try out this video thing, see how it works. I haven’t talked to anybody for quite a while. I’ve got all kinds of issues going on at home. My wife’s gone through cancer twice now, still recovering from the second one. Anyways, I tried that Patreon app. I know I paid it and I never could get anything to work on it. I’m going to try it again, I guess.
[00:32:27:25 – 00:32:32:29]
It’s good to hear Josh back too. Love the show. Love talking to you guys.
[00:32:32:29 – 00:32:39:29]
Hey, this is Nicky G. And did you know that lizards can detach their tail when they feel threatened?
[00:32:41:21 – 00:32:49:03]
Yeah, don’t worry. They get them back. Where do they get them from? A retail store. (Loud Bang)
[00:32:50:12 – 00:32:55:07]
Didn’t like that one. Try this one. What do you call an indecisive potato?
[00:32:56:23 – 00:32:59:29]
Yeah, a hesitator. (Horns)
[00:33:01:28 – 00:33:08:20]
I didn’t like that one either, but you know, it is what it is. Alright, boys and girls, I’ll chat at you later and have a good one. Bye.
[00:33:10:06 – 00:33:15:05]
Hey, this is Nicky G. And did you know I started keeping a guitar in the back of my jeep?
[00:33:16:13 – 00:33:19:08]
Yeah, it comes in great if I ever want a traffic jam.
[00:33:20:21 – 00:33:21:18]
That was horrible.
[00:33:23:19 – 00:33:25:18]
Did you know I was gonna get a brain transplant?
[00:33:27:08 – 00:33:31:23]
I decided not to, but then I changed my mind. (Horns)
[00:33:32:24 – 00:33:39:07]
This one ain’t working out too good either. Alright, boys and girls, I’ll chat at you later and have a good one. Bye. (Outro Music)
[00:33:39:07 – 00:35:51:19]
all right. People were here tonight doing a bit of a round table. Uh, and this is going to be something that does pisses me off. And I don’t know if it pisses you off or not. So, uh, chime in. If you think it’s silly, that’s fine, but, uh, this pisses me off. It has nothing to do with Jeeps. I mean, the Jeep is kind of involved because it’s a parking lot, but it’s a paid parking lot. It’s about baskets. When the fuck did it become acceptable for companies to put us to work? Uh, you know, I’m, I’m a, of an older generation. And when you went to the grocery store and you used the basket to roll your groceries back out there to your station wagon, or, uh, I guess mine was, I’m I know 72 Nova with the three 27 in it. Uh, I didn’t have a place to put the basket. I moved it out of the way, hopefully out of everybody else’s way. Hopefully not anything that I would bump against it when I was leaving, but they had somebody out there, a high school student, uh, that would come out, collect the baskets, push them in and make them available for the next, uh, a customer that came up. Now we need to go and make sure that we put the basket in its little, it’s little area that it’s taken up a parking spot. And I think I’ve even seen the videos, uh, YouTube and, uh, on social media where they put stickers on people’s cars when they don’t put their baskets back, they’re shaming them for not putting their baskets back. And some people are saying that it shows, um, the, uh, the nature of your being by being so selfish as not to, it is not to take the basket and put it back. Well, fuck you. I’m going to put the basket wherever the fuck I want to. If I park next to one of those little receptacles that you put the baskets, the, the, uh, the basket corral fine. I’ll put it in there. But if I have to walk aways, I’m not doing it. And I’m also not fronting the damn shelves in the store and I’m not mopping the floors. I’m not doing any of the other jobs in there. And I’m not using that self check it, check out either. Fuck you. Right. Not unless I get employee discount.
[00:35:52:22 – 00:36:23:28]
Yeah. Where’s my 10 99? Exactly. Want me to do all the free labor for you. Yeah. I mean, it’s a, I mean, I can appreciate they don’t have to pay people to do these things and then maybe the prices are lower, but it wasn’t any kind of agreement that I made. And if you want me to do it, that’s fine. But don’t everybody else don’t shame me because, uh, cause I mean, shame me, I’m going to do it worse. I may zip tie it to your car door. I, you know, if it’s a cheap, I’ll, I’ll let you go. But no.
[00:36:26:15 – 00:36:33:28]
When you said basket, the only thing came to my mind is it puts the lotion in the basket.
[00:36:35:29 – 00:36:44:01]
Yeah. We call them buggies down here. Buggy’s is fine. Yeah. Yeah. I don’t care what you call it. I want to know, do you put it up and be, be honest?
[00:36:45:28 – 00:36:59:22]
I’m like you. If I park next to the little Corral thing, yeah, but I’m not going to walk halfway across the parking lot. That’s, I didn’t sign up to work there. Yeah. How about you, Glenn? Are you, are you rude? Do you not put your basket back when you’re done with it?
[00:37:01:18 – 00:37:06:24]
Well, I remember I’m in South Louisiana. So the quicker I get into the AC, the better. So screw the cart.
[00:37:08:15 – 00:37:12:21]
I really thought I was going to get some pushback on this. Uh, how about you, John Lee?
[00:37:16:14 – 00:37:18:14]
John. John Lee. John Lee.
[00:37:20:15 – 00:37:26:24]
All right. I think I know Bob. I said, oh, go ahead. I said, I’m, I said, I put it back. Um,
[00:37:28:17 – 00:37:55:14]
I don’t know. It’s just, it’s always been my, uh, my model. I don’t know. I guess the main thing is I never really thought twice about it. I’m just, down here, they’re pretty good. I rarely do I ever have to walk very far to put a cart back, but you know, it’s just, it never really rose to the part of, uh, you know, staging a full blown protest about, that would be a big seller. The military in you.
[00:37:56:16 – 00:38:32:24]
I guess I’m just, to me, I mean, you know, like they’ve got guys out there, here’s the thing that they’ve got high school kids out there running. Part of this is the fact that you get minimum wage is what like, or not the actual legal minimum wage, but what they’re paying everybody now is like 20 bucks an hour. And a lot of these grocery stores, they have enough people to go out and collect all those carts and do all that stuff. And then you’re paying twice as much for your groceries or whatever. So to me, it’s not, it’s not that big a deal. I just find a spot and put it up. Yeah. Now let me ask you, this is a critical question. Uh, were you this way, uh, before or after you got married?
[00:38:34:13 – 00:39:08:24]
Before, after what? Before or after you got married? Is it, what did you start putting the basket back because your wife told you to is what I’m getting at. I put the basket back because if I didn’t, my dad would have whipped my ass for being an asshole. So he’s like, my, I was at a very young age when I, when that was part of your job as a kid, right? When you put the groceries in the car with your parents, kids run the basket back and throw it in the, in the, the holder or whatever, put it on the island. There’s no holders out there, but, um, yeah, that, that ever since I was a kid, that was like always a requirement. Okay. Uh, Rick, uh, you’re in Arkansas. Do you guys use baskets?
[00:39:10:18 – 00:39:47:11]
Yeah. Yeah. Every one of them has got that one wheel that does like this though. Every, there’s not one good basket in all of Arkansas. And I was, I was actually kind of nervous. Actually, when you first was talking about baskets, I thought he was going to have us talk about our shopping cart basket online and what’s, what’s in there or something. I was like, Oh, I don’t want to be putting, I don’t want to be putting that information out here on a recorded thing, you know, but, uh, uh, I put them back. If the thing is, is, you know, my, my computer car is a, is a, uh, is a 24, uh,
[00:39:48:17 – 00:41:50:17]
Honda Accord. It’s black and it’s a pretty car. And the thing is, is I’ve seen those parts come, come flying across the, you know, when the winds up and, and those things are smashed into a car and you know, when I, you know, the Jeep, you ain’t going to hurt anything on that Jeep of the shopping cart. I mean, there’s nowhere for that shopping cart to hit. It’s going to do anything. But in my, in my car, you know, I mean, I, I kind of have enough, you know, it’s the old kind of show respect to other people’s stuff and, and so, and hit, you know, so I’m, I’m kind of sowing that good seed out there so that, that hopefully it comes back on me and, and, you know, I’m not getting a shopping cart in the side of the door and my black Honda. That’s going to, you know, shine like the new day. So you know, the, the grocery store is ultimately responsible if that buggy hits your car, right? Well, the, the other signs up everywhere says it or not. I mean, I mean, it, you know, small claims court and all the problems you’d have to go through and take off tight. I’d spend more time. It would cost me more taking time off work to deal with that. And especially taking my, my paid time off that I could be willing to go just fight some idiot in court, you know, over now, I just, I just put the carts up and, and generally I just say, you know, I mean, it’s not that big of a deal. And you know, and that way some little old ladies not having to move a card out of the, you know, get out of her car, move the card out of the way so she can pull into the thing. You know, I mean, I’m just, I’m just being nice, you know, to me, it’s a respect thing. So has anybody considered your, you pull up the basket to your, your Jeep or whatever vehicle you got? Uh, it’s probably got that remote thing. So you can unlock the doors. So, uh, the, all the doors are unlocked so you can get the groceries in. Do you remember to lock the doors before you walk to take the basket back? Cause somebody could jump in, get your vehicle, mess around,
[00:41:51:20 – 00:41:54:20]
do really anything. I mean, even potentially take off in it.
[00:41:57:03 – 00:42:13:18]
Well, my, my Honda’s got a proximity lock, so it does it automatically. And my Jeep, you know, it’s depends on what time of the year. Right now it’s wide open right now. They’d have a hard time getting in it. Cause the thing’s so dang tall, but
[00:42:18:09 – 00:42:32:22]
but yeah, uh, you know, to me, it’s not that big of a deal. I just put it up as it’s more of a respect thing than, than anything. Right. Uh, do you think people are assholes or beneath you because they don’t put the baskets back?
[00:42:35:09 – 00:42:36:25]
Everybody’s beneath me.
[00:42:39:21 – 00:42:40:21]
I knew that was coming.
[00:42:42:21 – 00:42:45:01]
What about you, Bob? Are you, do you put the basket back?
[00:42:46:13 – 00:42:49:11]
I do. I did not expect that.
[00:42:52:22 – 00:43:04:08]
I have owned some very nice cars and it would piss me off to come out and find jackass left that car blowing in the wind to run into the side of my car.
[00:43:09:10 – 00:43:14:01]
Very good. Very good. Honest, honest answers here. Uh, how about you, Travis?
[00:43:15:23 – 00:45:22:23]
I’ll put them up and I’ll even rearrange them from the small basket and large basket. If I’m putting them up, I just ate it. He doesn’t drive me insane, but it’s just like, ah, is it killing me to help out or yeah, do their job. Um, I’m, I’m doing somebody’s job, but I put them up since I was a kid. And I think that goes back to, you know, John, just your child was raised. Does it hurt me? Does it bother me to do it now? Not a bit. It’s, it’s three minutes. I mean, if I got cold ice cream, I’m not, you know, doing it rearranging the whole line of, of large and small baskets. Um, but yeah, I put them up. What if a, what if a rain shower comes while you’re, uh, while you’re, uh, putting the basket, uh, you know, you’re done with your basket. Do you take the time to wheel it over there and get wet, even wetter than what you are, or just leave it up there by the nose of the vehicle? I put it up. Doesn’t matter. I’m not going shopping with a train. And I mean, I know most people don’t, but you know, especially during the summertime, you can have these pop-up showers. Yeah. I’ll keep shopping until I hear it’s over. Uh, like I’m going to stick it out in the store. I buy more food. My grocery list just went from, you know, a hundred dollar trip to $300 trip. I want, damn it. I guess I want this too. All right. Let me, uh, let me paint a picture for you guys. You know how I am about, uh, the, uh, the self-driving cars and the robots and stuff. They’re coming. They’re, they’re here to take care of us. Um, I, I suspect that in a very short period of time, we are going to be followed by a robot, uh, out to our vehicles. They may be pushing the basket for us. Uh, but they’re going to, we’re going to be followed up there. They’re going to stand there patiently until we’re done, empty in the basket. And then it’s going to take that basket and, and put it in the stall or more than likely take it back in and, uh, put it where the, uh, the customers get it. So, uh, how are you, would that make you nervous Travis to have a robot standing there waiting for you?
[00:45:23:24 – 00:46:10:21]
No, but I don’t, I think, I think you’re going the wrong direction. I think it’s going to be us with the robot unloading or stuff and putting the basket back and then getting in the passenger seat and riding home with us. Yeah. You can do that too. Yeah. You can do that too. I just, I think that’s going to be more than direction of your personal assistant taking care of everything. I think your businesses will have them, but they’re going to be stocking shelves and doing different things. They may be there and it is what it is. You know, I’ve jumped on the AI game. I’m learning it every day because I don’t want to get left behind and be shocked when the next things happen. Um, but yeah, now I will have one clean in my house doing my laundry and, and vacuum in my floors.
[00:46:11:24 – 00:46:22:27]
Get it. Yep. Yeah. I’m just kind of wondering, I’m just kind of wondering while y’all all you peons are even going to the store anymore. I got my groceries delivered to my front door and then I don’t have to even deal with it.
[00:46:25:27 – 00:47:32:27]
I made a comment the other day on a YouTube video where the, the what’s going to happen is, is that you’re, um, uh, you’re going to call your order in a robo taxi or a cyber cab is going to arrive at your house with your groceries and a optimist robot is going to step out. Grab the basket with all the, or multiple times, it depending how much groceries you get, it’s going to walk up to your house. Uh, the, uh, the, the cyber lock door lock will unlock the door. So let the cyber bot in. And when it walks in, especially here in Texas, it’s going to say, uh, optimists, food delivery, don’t shoot. And then it’s going to take your, your, your food into the kitchen and put it there and lay it all out and put proper probably the optimist robot in your house is going to take over and start, uh, fixing the food, putting away and fixing the food for you. So, uh, yeah, I’m really looking forward to that. But anyway, uh, yeah, robots will be putting the baskets back and we will go full circle from, uh, high school students, uh, junior and high school students doing it to, uh, the robots doing it for us.
[00:47:36:22 – 00:48:43:06]
Walmart now will deliver inside your house and put cold stuff in the fridge or really? I did not know that 100%. I, I, I’ve not had it done, but I had different renters here and they asked for permission for that to be done. And like Amazon opens my garage, puts everything inside it. Um, but yeah, Walmart will deliver to your house, put dry things on your counter and cold stuff in your fridge and freezer. Wow. I just, I just had a problem of a person doing it. No, I think you can trust a robot a lot better than a person. I agree. I’ve never had an issue, but I’ve got cameras. I’m going to see anything go on, but they’re, I don’t know if they’re vetted. I don’t know the background, but I would imagine Walmart’s got a vet, the people that do that. I would think I would hope anybody can sign up to be one of those, um, drivers to deliver. Now I don’t know if they go through the background stuff, but I looked at doing that just for fun for a little bit. Yeah.
[00:48:44:11 – 00:49:50:27]
So, uh, to, to bring this around to the jeeping world where I, I kind of like to see this turn into, you know, when we was out on the Rubicon, they had these guys coming out on these electric motorcycles and they had a backpack on and they were running parts. And like if people, somebody had broke down on the trail and they had the mechanics out there and, and I guess mechanics would call them on the radio and have them, I guess they had a, uh, well, my understanding is, is people donate parts. They’ve got a, like a, I don’t know, somewhere, I guess they’ve got a parts bin or storage and people donate parts. And so they have several, it’s a Rubicon trail foundation that runs that. Okay. And they bring the parts out to you. So, you know, you got a robot that not only brings your part out to you, but crawls on your Jeep, jacks it up, welds, welds the new part on, you know, the whole thing, you know, I mean, I could see where that might be. It’d be like one of those things. Where’s the beer? You were supposed to bring beer with you while I watch you work on my Jeep. Yeah. Right.
[00:49:52:24 – 00:50:28:12]
I just goes without saying. Yeah. All right. Well, fun conversation. Uh, this will be used on our flagship episodes. So you guys tune in and watch that. If you’d like to be here for the other round table episode, we do this every Tuesday, 7 30 PM central time. Uh, just go to Jeep talk show dot com slash contact to find out how to join. I’ll tell you, it’s really easy. Uh, it’s a real easy link. Jeep talk show.com slash round table, uh, password Jeep. Uh, thanks for being here guys. And, uh, thank you for letting us know how your basket pushing habits, uh, how you do them. If you’re, if you’re a good guy or you’re an asshole like me,
[00:50:28:12 – 00:52:19:19]
so this installment of fuck you, you fucking fuck goes to all those people out there who don’t really know how to turn their steering wheel that well, or who are afraid to, or who are afraid to use both the steering wheel and the gas pedal simultaneously, and what I’m talking about are those people who have to come to a nearly full stop to turn into a driveway. I’m not talking about the driveway, you know, your double bump driveway, you know, that goes into your, you know, for your home, and you gotta slow down, make sure you go into the garage. No, I’m talking about you’re turning into the strip mall. You’re turning into the Burger King parking lot, whatever it may be. You don’t have to slow down to two and a half miles per hour to make that corner. There’s so many fucking people that are driving around like they’ve got a fucking wedding cake in the trunk, or a tear of champagne glasses, you know, toggling on their back seat, and God forbid they go around a corner faster than two and a half miles per hour because something might fall. Look, there’s so many people out there who are absolutely just scared to drive, they’re out there white knuckled, everything around them is just scary, fast moving vehicles, and they don’t know what to do. How about get the fuck off the road? Because what you’re doing is you’re causing an accident where everybody else can turn into that parking lot at speed, you for some more fucking reason need to slow down to two and a half miles per hour to make that corner. And this is the same kind of person that has to make a seven point turn to get out of their parking space because they don’t know where the corners of their vehicle are, and they’re scared to turn the steering wheel. These are the same people. They’re scared to use the steering wheel, they’re scared to use the gas pedal, they’re in the way all the time. These are people that cause accidents. Look, I have to swerve out of the way because I thought you were turning into this place. No, you’re parked right there. Oh no, you’re not parking. You’re just coming to a near complete stop before you turn into a business. What the fuck is wrong with you?
[00:52:22:04 – 00:52:41:10]
Okay, I’m getting a little worked up today. So should we give them a pass if they’ve got 500 perfectly stacked ducks on their dash? Is that a good reason to turn slow? What we need to do is give them a pit maneuver is what we need to do. We need to, seriously, I need to get one of the cow guards on the front of my vehicle so I can just take.
[00:52:42:21 – 00:52:44:15]
Oh, come on, you have to do the ending.
[00:52:44:15 – 00:52:52:29]
So fuck you, you fucking fuck for not being able to use your steering wheel and your gas pedal at the same time. I’m just sick of this shit.
[00:52:54:03 – 00:53:08:14]
What about people with no arms or they’re steering with their legs? That would be a good reason. I do it all the time. I drive halfway to work with my knees. Are you talking? I got a coffee in one hand, I got my breakfast sandwich in the other, I’m eating breakfast, I’m steering, I can make it to work no problem.
[00:53:10:24 – 00:54:54:08]

Let tubes warm up and all that good nonsense. You have equipment with tubes, don’t you? I do. I have a preamp for the microphone and it’s actually a tube preamp and that’s what gives me the golden tone to my voice. So since Radio Shack’s not there with their massive two-ton combo tube storage and tester, what do you do for tubes now? I guess you gotta order it from Amazon or something. There would be that, yeah, I’d have to pull out the magnifying glass and all that and figure out the numbers that are on the thing and order them. I forgot there’s actually a tube inside the microphone as well, this has what is called the, I think it’s the Neumann mod to it or something like that.
[00:55:48:18 – 00:56:07:06]
And something, there’s been a tube that’s been added to the circuit board that’s inside of this. And so that combined with the tube preamp and this really is a nice microphone combination. Yeah, all right, so we can get started. We are rolling. All right.
