Speaker 2
All right, boys and girls, it’s time for another flagship classic. Uh, Chris is stepping into tonight for, uh, for Josh. Uh, you know, I think everybody is aware. Josh was with the show for a good 12 years, uh, before he had to leave to get a second and third job, this so he could help pay for house and, you know, living day to day. So, uh, he left the show recently came back. We found a way where he could record, uh, while he was driving around daily in the truck, uh, that he, uh, he drives around, uh, picking up stuff and delivering stuff for a construction company that he’s been working for. And, uh, recently he made the, uh, the decision that he was only going to record from the studio, which I really appreciate. It was totally his, his choice because I was just trying to make sure that we had made it available for whatever time work for him.

[00:00:50:09 – 00:00:54:10]
Speaker 2
And, uh, so I don’t, I don’t pester him about, Hey, we got a show to do.

[00:00:56:13 – 00:01:03:29]
Speaker 2
Show must go on. Yeah, but that’s okay. We always have a, have Chris as a backup. Uh, it doesn’t mean that you’re second best Chris, but your second best.

[00:01:03:29 – 00:01:07:02]
Speaker 1
Uh, that’s okay. Better than third.

[00:01:07:02 – 00:01:35:04]
Speaker 2
That’s right. You know, why be number one? You can, when you can be number two, everybody can find you when you’re number two. All right. So, um, the, there’s been some, uh, some pushback in the past and, uh, about me talking about Tesla, but I think talking about Tesla is relevant to the off-road industry, uh, and in a fun way. So, uh, if you don’t like hearing me talk about Tesla, fuck you leave.

[00:01:38:19 – 00:02:48:04]
Speaker 2
You know, and I, and actually I want to start with this, Chris. Why do you think it is that people are so anti-future because I understand electric vehicle, I much prefer like the throaty V8 noise, especially that, that 392 that Jeep has in there, beautiful sounding, uh, sounding Jeep, beautiful sounding engine gets up and goes very manly. Um, but I’m also smart enough to understand that electric vehicles, the torque and instant horsepower is radically different than a V8 or any internal combustion engine is so superior to it. And in some time in the future, people are going to look back and go, Oh yeah, of the V8, the rumble, it was great. But my God, this, this electric motor or electric motors, cause you’ll have one on each wheel so you can do the four wheel drive thing, fewer parts, fewer maintenance, uh, fewer cost overall. And so much torque, uh, that’s going to be available. We all love torque off-road hell. We love torque, torque this taken off from the, uh, the stop sign. Yeah.

[00:02:49:19 – 00:02:49:29]
Speaker 1
The

[00:02:51:10 – 00:03:56:19]
Speaker 1
pushback is, uh, unfortunately I think Tesla, you know, it becomes a political conversation, which wouldn’t, it shouldn’t because of Elon’s stances. He’s taken with the current administration, but there’s no doubt that he’s, he’s a game changer for lack of a better term. And unfortunately, I think some of the pushback on Tesla is due to Elon and the silly people that put, Oh, I bought this before Elon went crazy if they had a Tesla. So that, that, that’s a component of it, I believe. And, and that’s just, I’ll be nice and say silly. Uh, but, uh, I can say my perspective, I might be a little bit different being in the automotive world. Um, the automotive supply base, which I’m a part of in my day job really got burned with the electric vehicle, uh, the investments and then the investments that were made and then weren’t executed. Uh, the revenue wasn’t executed because they’ve canceled the vehicles, General Motors, Ford, especially, uh, and, and Stellantis, Chrysler Jeep to some degree. So that’s my perspective because it’s, yeah, a lot of companies and people got burned, uh, either directly or indirectly.

[00:03:56:19 – 00:04:00:16]
Speaker 2
And when you say burned, there was a big push by our government, I believe.

[00:04:00:16 – 00:04:01:02]
Speaker 1
Yes.

[00:04:01:02 – 00:04:13:17]
Speaker 2
And certain individuals to do, to get everybody to move over to electric vehicles and, and that actually included bullying. Uh, it could even be bullying from our government. And, uh, so whenever

[00:04:15:21 – 00:04:31:08]
Speaker 2
it’s whenever you come to your senses, which people could argue, I understand. And then it changes, then people get burned because they’ve invested in this stuff, thinking that it was going to be something that was going to happen or may not like it, but you get, you got to do business.

[00:04:31:08 – 00:05:05:16]
Speaker 1
Right. Exactly. And, and it, it’s just, and it’s not as popular as it was a couple of years ago. I believe it will come back around. Uh, myself, I’m not a huge electric vehicle fan, but I do get the technology. It is neat technology and, and, you know, Chinese EVs are another thing. And then that’s another component of it. I mean, you know, will the current administration allow electric or Chinese vehicles to be made or sold in the United States? And General Motors makes a lot of vehicles in China. Uh, never want to miss an opportunity to pick on General Motors myself. Uh,

[00:05:06:17 – 00:05:32:15]
Speaker 1
they, you know, they make a lot and there’s that component of it too. I think a lot of people associate Chinese car is an EV and that they’re not all EVs, but many are. So I think that’s another thing. It just becomes too political and that just sucks. And, you know, let’s talk about Jeeps and Teslas and off-road and technology and not worry about the politics because it is, it is technology and then it is, it is here and it’s, it’s going to evolve and get better over time.

[00:05:32:15 – 00:06:20:27]
Speaker 2
Well, my point to all this is, is that, and I don’t know if you’ve, if you’ve seen it or not, but my point to all this is, uh, is the, uh, the Tesla Roadster, uh, demonstration. So they’re coming out with a new Tesla. Um, if I understood the Elon correctly on the, the event that I watched last night, um, it is not going to be full self-driving. This is meant to be a fast, badass vehicle that will go very quickly. And the fact that in the demonstration they had last night, it was zero to 60 and 0.81 seconds. I did a quick calculation on that. That was a 4.1 G’s. So, um, so, and not only did it take off really fast and go zero to 60 in that, that length of time it flew.

[00:06:21:27 – 00:06:22:00]
Speaker 1
Right.

[00:06:23:02 – 00:06:34:28]
Speaker 2
So did you see, uh, it’s kind of hard to miss it if you’ve been online at all today, because everybody’s really just going nuts about it. I have yet to see Rosie O’Donnell with a cold thrusters.

[00:06:37:06 – 00:06:46:07]
Speaker 2
I mean, I’ve seen some Jeeps and some cars and stuff that weren’t the Roadster. And I’ve been thinking Rosie O’Donnell flipping over cars and stuff would be pretty good.

[00:06:49:03 – 00:07:05:18]
Speaker 1
I did see the video. I didn’t, I didn’t see the event, but I of course saw it online. And the other thing, again, not to mean it negative on tasks. I think the other, the other thing is who is, and I, what I read on a mode of news blurb, you know, Elon promised this Roadster or this iteration of it eight years ago.

[00:07:05:18 – 00:07:05:24]
Speaker 2
Okay.

[00:07:07:23 – 00:07:18:20]
Speaker 1
And then people, the other thing, Oh, if you have, I think the deposit on it is $50,000. Okay. Well, I mean, if you’ve got $50,000 to put down on a vehicle, good on you.

[00:07:18:20 – 00:07:19:21]
Speaker 2
Yeah. You don’t, you don’t

[00:07:21:02 – 00:07:26:10]
Speaker 2
have a lot of, a lot of issues unless the police are investigating you for selling drugs.

[00:07:27:11 – 00:07:41:17]
Speaker 1
Eventually they will. Get their attention, but yeah, I think that’s a component of it too. But I mean, regardless if they do make one that can do all the flips and the flies, you know, and the other people, that’s not legal to do in most area. Okay. We get it. It’s just,

[00:07:41:17 – 00:07:43:27]
Speaker 2
Well, the off road lights aren’t legal in those areas.

[00:07:43:27 – 00:07:45:07]
Speaker 1
Right. Right.

[00:07:45:07 – 00:07:47:15]
Speaker 2
Getting caught is what you have to worry about.

[00:07:47:15 – 00:07:57:22]
Speaker 1
But I read also to your point about it being a, you know, just a fast, bad-ass car, Elon said it will be the only Tesla model that will still be manually driven in the future.

[00:07:57:22 – 00:08:59:29]
Speaker 2
Yes. Yeah, exactly. There, I don’t think they’re going to have a full self driving. There may be some, some moderate stuff that it’ll do. Uh, and I certainly think that if you’re going to fly it, it probably will have some automated features in it so that it reads how close to the ground you are and when to fire those thrusters. Um, so anyway, my, my point isn’t to talk all about the Tesla. My point is, is that I think that, you know, not everybody understands thrusters since the Apollo program, everybody saw those little, uh, nozzles that were like on the landing module and on the command module, and they use that for attitude adjustment, roll the whole nine yards. Cause you don’t have wind or air to, to glide over and create, create thrust and drag. So this stuff has been around for a long time. And of course, SpaceX uses it on their, their, uh, the Starship and the Falcon nine. So all they did, and I say all they did, all they did was they put it, these, these thrusters on a car.

[00:09:01:09 – 00:09:32:16]
Speaker 2
But the big deal is, is how much thrust you give it. When do you give it? So you have all these things that you have to read, like the distance to the ground, uh, how fast you’re going. Uh, I don’t personally see any reason for barrel walls, but for a demonstration, it’s nice. Yeah. Yeah. So, uh, and I’ve said this a number of years ago and several times. Jeeps need thrusters. And they don’t need thrusters to fly. They need thrusters to keep you from rolling over

[00:09:33:24 – 00:09:41:21]
Speaker 2
or, or worse. Yeah. Or worse, roll it over backwards. You know how the, when the front end comes up and then it’s end over end backwards.

[00:09:41:21 – 00:09:42:20]
Speaker 1
Push it back down. Yeah.

[00:09:42:20 – 00:10:00:16]
Speaker 2
Exactly. Exactly. So this is the reason why I’m bringing this up is, is that we need to be open to new technologies, because if Tesla can put a couple of, uh, tanks, uh, in the, in the trunk of this, uh, roadster, you know, think of, uh, uh, Steve over at power tank,

[00:10:01:16 – 00:10:47:04]
Speaker 2
if you can put a couple of tanks of compressed air, and I don’t know if you know this or not, Chris, it refills itself. So the roadster, yeah, the, it’s not like, it’s not like this is going and getting your, your power tank filled up. Oh, damn, I’m running out of air. So when you use it, the, the, the roadster itself takes about 30 minutes. To refill, uh, those, I think there’s two, uh, pressure vessels and it’s a lot like the pressure vessels that you see on, on the Starship, they’ve covered them up now, but used to, you’d see these tanks, uh, cylindrical tanks on the side of the Starship and that’s what they’re used for. And they’re cold thrusters because it’s not a, uh, thermal reaction. It’s just air pressure. So it’s

[00:10:47:04 – 00:10:50:07]
Speaker 1
just using air to recharge. It’s drawing.

[00:10:50:07 – 00:10:50:21]
Speaker 2
Yeah.

[00:10:50:21 – 00:10:51:16]
Speaker 1
Okay.

[00:10:51:16 – 00:11:15:22]
Speaker 2
So this isn’t something, I mean, just that technology. Could you imagine having the technology where you, uh, you have a nice power tank and you don’t have to worry about filling it up. You just use the technology to auto fill the power tank that alone. So this is what we need to do when we see this new technology is how can we use it? Now,

[00:11:16:28 – 00:11:25:23]
Speaker 2
I think it probably would be illegal, but it may be certainly fun to see King Hammers with a cold thruster off-road rig.

[00:11:27:05 – 00:11:29:24]
Speaker 1
So might be a little like cheating, but

[00:11:29:24 – 00:11:36:26]
Speaker 2
oh yeah. Well, and the other thing people don’t think about is when you’re in an environment, a very, uh, dusty, rocky environment,

[00:11:38:00 – 00:11:41:16]
Speaker 2
debris is going to be going 500,000 miles an hour

[00:11:42:20 – 00:12:06:15]
Speaker 2
away from the bottom of the vehicle. So I just find it fascinating. And like I said, this isn’t new technology. It’s the first, uh, demonstration of somebody taking it to the extreme. And that’s what, uh, Elon has done in many of his companies. It’s, it’s like a kid with a Lego set. Or if you remember those old construction sets that you could build bridges and stuff with.

[00:12:07:24 – 00:12:30:10]
Speaker 2
Yeah. That’s it’s like he’s, he’s taken that stuff and go, yeah, hell why not? And that’s the thing that makes, uh, Elon so dangerous and amazing as his ability to do that, but yeah, why not? Let’s do it. Um, and I know some of the engineers, especially the top level engineers over there cringe when he says, Hey, what do you guys think about this? Oh yeah.

[00:12:30:10 – 00:12:34:07]
Speaker 1
I think it’s one of his models is move fast and break things.

[00:12:34:07 – 00:13:14:15]
Speaker 2
Yeah, exactly. So, um, I don’t see a situation, uh, for a Jeep. I’m not saying you couldn’t do it, but I don’t see a situation for a Jeep where you have the, uh, the vacuum system. It’s on the roadster. So you could literally take corners at two G’s, uh, with the, the vacuum system, because it pulls the vehicle down to the road, which you saw on the, in the, the demo where it was upside down and still on the ramp. Um, so that’s really impressive. And I figured they made this thing really, really light so that they could, you know, so they could do all this stuff that they were doing and then it dawned on me. This thing’s got batteries in it and batteries ain’t light. So yeah,

[00:13:15:17 – 00:13:43:29]
Speaker 2
so this was an engineering feat that they had to go through, but I’m saying it has, um, it has things that we could use it as off-roaders. I think one of the worst things in it bothers me, it’s exciting to see, but it bothers me anytime it happens is when somebody rolls over, if they flop over to the side, that’s not so bad. But whenever the, the, the nose is crushed, the windshield is crushed. Uh, I hate seeing that because that’s a, that’s a Jeep. It’s trash.

[00:13:45:00 – 00:13:46:12]
Speaker 1
Yeah. Agree.

[00:13:46:12 – 00:13:59:26]
Speaker 2
So, uh, I think we’re going to, we’re about to see a lot of really interesting things and, uh, and, and I’m sure it’s Red Bull is going to be associated with these really interesting things and cold thrusters.

[00:14:01:09 – 00:14:10:14]
Speaker 1
Now, how, how cold does it get? Do you know, I know when you say cold, like cold air intake is just come to me and oxymoron, um, but do you know how cold it can get?

[00:14:10:14 – 00:15:20:16]
Speaker 2
Well, I mean, it’s, it’s just air. Coming out of a nozzle. So, uh, whenever you do the decompression thing, you have an energy transfer. So it’s kind of the way our air conditioning systems work where they use the coolant to compress and decompress and those changes causes cold. But the, I think the point of this, uh, other being called cold thrusters is so people understand it’s not Batman’s rocket engine on the back of the, the back of the vehicle. It’s not fire. It’s not thousands of degrees. It’s it’s air. So it might be a little cooler. I don’t think anybody would have a problem or the paint jobs on other vehicles around your, whatever you have with the cold thrusters, uh, vehicles that are around you, there wouldn’t be a problem. You’d be more likely to break a glass aside side or put a dent in a vehicle just simply because of the, uh, 10,000 PSI that, uh, this cold thruster system has, and you may not need that if you’re not flying, you just, but it would be cool to have an emergency system so that whenever, uh, you got out of, um, your, your pitch and yaw and everything else, cold thrusters would fire and then put your nose back down.

[00:15:20:16 – 00:15:52:15]
Speaker 1
Yeah. I was just thinking of another application. If it was cold, if it could cool and then beers and the term beers, but, uh, uh, yeah, save you from that, uh, thousand dollar Dometic refrigerator in the back of your Jeep, but, uh, if it would, uh, be act as an intercooler for a supercharger or turbocharger, make that more efficient. Just the thought, but it doesn’t, it doesn’t sound like I get what you mean by it’s not hot, like a, uh, a rocket. It’s cold as in, we’ll call it ambient air temperature, maybe, maybe a little bit less.

[00:15:52:15 – 00:16:02:23]
Speaker 2
The other thing I was really impressed by was, uh, the quote unquote flying time, 15 to 20 seconds, which was a lot longer than what I anticipated.

[00:16:02:23 – 00:16:04:01]
Speaker 1
That’s a lot of time.

[00:16:04:01 – 00:16:45:15]
Speaker 2
Yeah, it really is. Uh, and, uh, anyway, I’m just thinking that this isn’t a Tesla fan type thing. Although I really liked the technology behind Tesla and space X, several of the, I mean, neural link, several of the things that, uh, Elon is doing. Um, but, uh, it’s more along the lines of embrace the technology and think about how you can use it. I mean, I don’t think that, uh, somebody, some company, motor built, for example, uh, needs to, uh, invest and come out with something that is really cool. And then people go, Oh, that’s not a bad idea.

[00:16:46:15 – 00:17:26:09]
Speaker 2
People shouldn’t have, I mean, it’s the way it works, but people shouldn’t have to, to come out with something that you can see so you can understand. Think about it. Think about what these technologies can do for you and what you enjoy doing. You don’t want to EV. I have no problem with that whatsoever. But the, like we talked about last time, Chris, having the ability to have your Jeep drive you to, or do most of the driving, most of the heavy loading, uh, the 19 hour drive for me going to a Moab, Utah. Hell yeah. Why wouldn’t I want that? I don’t need to charge my vehicle. I can fill it up at a gas station. That’s fine with that. But, uh, let somebody else drive.

[00:17:27:11 – 00:17:27:19]
Speaker 2
Oh yeah.

[00:17:29:03 – 00:17:29:29]
Speaker 1
Agree. Yeah.

[00:17:29:29 – 00:18:15:25]
Speaker 2
Anyway, uh, that that’s kind of my, my preachy thing for the, uh, the Tesla, the roadster, the, the demo. If you guys haven’t seen that, I’ve got some clips up here that I’m, that you’re seeing, but if you haven’t seen the full thing, watch it. It was, it was very impressive to me from the standpoint that I expected some little something. Uh, I wasn’t sure if them driving halfway up that vertical wall and just park there. I thought that that might’ve been it. And whenever they backed down off of it, it was like, Oh, come on, you guys got to have to do more than this. And then they drove it up to the top and flew off of it and, and rotated to the barrel roll and landed. And I went, that’s pretty good. That’s exciting. And then they did more. Do you know they’re doing two more demos? So I don’t know what more that they can do.

[00:18:15:25 – 00:18:20:01]
Speaker 1
Are they live demos? I mean, is it something where the public, I mean,

[00:18:20:01 – 00:18:36:08]
Speaker 2
the public was there. I mean, Elon specifically wanted the public there because of AI. He didn’t want a bunch of claims that this wasn’t real. That it was just AI generated. So, I mean, you can generate the people too, but I don’t want to, I don’t want to put too much shade on the whole thing.

[00:18:36:08 – 00:18:37:05]
Speaker 1
Right.

[00:18:37:05 – 00:19:08:12]
Speaker 2
All right, Chris. So the, you’ve done some, some videos of the Thar camper. T H A I R C A M P E R. And it’s basically an inflatable camper for full size pickups and also to the gladiator. So Chris and I had an idea. We’re not going to do it tonight. This isn’t an intro. It’s an intro for a future thing. Chris and I are going to try to do a walk around video. Um,

[00:19:09:17 – 00:19:59:06]
Speaker 2
and, uh, basically do a back and forth like we’re doing here, except Chris will be outside and, uh, uh, and this will be tough for you, Chris. You’ll need to video your, your gladiator and show off the gladiator and the camper. Hopefully that won’t be too much, uh, too much work to do. Uh, but I think that’d be a lot of fun and I’m hoping that we can do more of these things in the future, uh, where we have, uh, you out in the field interacting with people. And also too, even if you’ve got your, uh, your video helper, the guy that holding the camera for you, um, and, uh, you, you can, uh, we can still hopefully interact between each other and, uh, maybe I can do one of those things where you don’t tell them I’m asking questions, but you have to ask them the question. You’ve seen that on online, right? Uh, was it Kilmall that was doing that where they would, uh, uh, they would tell people what to ask

[00:19:59:06 – 00:21:00:25]
Speaker 1
and then, oh, Jimmy, Jimmy Kimmel and the show that I watched with my daughter. It’s been a few years, but, uh, um, not the man show. No, no, it’s something more recent. Um, impractical jokers. It’s a group of guys that were four. Now there’s three there. They were friends since high school. That’s it. Actually, uh, they’re a standup comedian group, but, uh, they do some really funny stuff in New York and they challenge each other. So they have a, the year piece in and they have to go and they have to say exactly what the other guys are telling them. Otherwise they lose. And if you lose, then you have to do something of a physical stunt at the end that is even more embarrassing. It’s just like that. And they go, they walk around, they do a really good job with it. They’ve explained they all have a coffee cup in their hand, like a, you know, like a Starbucks cup or a paper cup that we see people and that’s where the microphone is and they have an earpiece and then you’re like, go, go ask this lady what color underwear, I mean, nothing, nothing really crazy, but you know, go, go up and tell the person you’re hiding out from the police and see the reaction.

[00:21:01:26 – 00:21:16:08]
Speaker 1
And, and they, they, the people don’t know that somebody’s in their ear telling them to say this and they, they’re, they can see them. So yeah. So anyway, that’s impractical jokers. It’s good. I imagine we’ll, we’ll do that. I’ll have that, that type of feel to it.

[00:21:16:08 – 00:21:22:00]
Speaker 2
Do, uh, are you old enough or maybe you saw it on reruns, uh, old enough to remember candid camera?

[00:21:22:00 – 00:21:23:29]
Speaker 1
Oh yeah. I remember candid camera.

[00:21:23:29 – 00:21:26:22]
Speaker 2
It’s kind of like, it’s kind of like candid camera. Yeah.

[00:21:26:22 – 00:22:03:10]
Speaker 1
Yes. Yeah. But I think too, we could also do at events, uh, like the real news thing and you see the news people and, and either talking to the person in the studio, you’re in the studio and when you’re watching on the, on the TV, you, you don’t know that the person standing out there in the hurricane can’t see Bob back at the station, but that’s, you get that feeling and I’ve, I’ve, you know, I’ve had the chance many years ago to be on TV and they just say, stare at the light, like I’m looking at the camera here. I mean, I can see you were on split screen now, but just look at the, look at the light on the camera and you’re looking in the person’s eyes, whether you know it or not.

[00:22:03:10 – 00:22:17:08]
Speaker 2
Yeah. Yeah. So anyway, I think we’re going to have some fun with that. And I think you were telling me the other day, we were chatting on the phone and it’s the end of the event season from the standpoint of the things that you go to. I mean, SEMA is coming up in just a couple of weeks.

[00:22:17:08 – 00:22:53:13]
Speaker 1
Uh, yes. Uh, well, I’m going to be at the Midwest, mid America off road expo in January. I think it’s end of January, first part of February. So I’ll be back there. Uh, Natalie and high lift off road, Mike, that’s an event they do. Tom Zielinski, friend of the show is involved in that. That’s a nice indoor event and date in Ohio and, and first part of February, it’s in my calendar. I think it’s end of January be there. Uh, but yeah, it’s, uh, the weather’s turned here in the Midwest. It’s was 52 degrees when I backed the gladiator and their driveway this evening. Uh, so yeah, outdoor events are pretty much done. There’s a couple,

[00:22:53:13 – 00:22:59:22]
Speaker 2
Oh, I didn’t think about that. Yeah, it does get really cold up there. I forgot and treacherous with the snow and ice.

[00:22:59:22 – 00:23:16:19]
Speaker 1
It can. Yeah. Well, we won’t probably won’t see snow and ice until November and in November, December, but, uh, yeah, the outdoor events, uh, at least Jeep events are done. There’s a couple color runs, fun runs, nothing really off roadie. So I don’t plan to go to any of that.

[00:23:18:03 – 00:23:24:20]
Speaker 2
Um, and, uh, it’s currently on the schedule for you to go to EJS this year. Is that correct?

[00:23:24:20 – 00:23:31:01]
Speaker 1
Yes, it’s in the calendar. I don’t think I can have any, uh, people, any more people die on me. And, um,

[00:23:31:01 – 00:23:37:06]
Speaker 2
I was just thinking, I was just going to make that joke about everybody that was going to die or might have died has done so.

[00:23:37:06 – 00:23:38:04]
Speaker 1
Yeah.

[00:23:38:04 – 00:24:01:16]
Speaker 2
And I mean, they were asking for you last year. They thought you were a girl with the name of Chris, but they were asking for you last year and then you had to let them know Stellantis. This is Stellantis that was asking for you. So, uh, you’re making a pretty big name. I think it’s because you MC these events. For Zolinski and, uh, was it a BG four by four fest? You’ve done the MC there for them, not this year, but in the past.

[00:24:01:16 – 00:24:04:10]
Speaker 1
I did this year was just two weekends ago. Yep.

[00:24:04:10 – 00:24:06:27]
Speaker 2
Two weeks ago. It was a different event that you weren’t available to go to.

[00:24:06:27 – 00:24:21:24]
Speaker 1
Right. Right. Um, but, uh, yeah, no, it’s, it’s, uh, like you say, we’re kind of a big deal now, but it is a, uh, a privilege and honor to get that reminder there, to reach out, uh, folks from Jeep reaching out and do plan on getting out to EJS.

[00:24:21:24 – 00:24:26:25]
Speaker 2
It’s so cool to have a, get a message from Stellantis that doesn’t, doesn’t say stop it.

[00:24:28:02 – 00:25:22:28]
Speaker 2
Uh, who are you? Why are you doing this? Talk to our lawyers. Uh, they’ve been great. Actually, that’d be great that the, the, the entire time. Uh, and it’s, it’s always fun to be able to interact with the people that make your, uh, your favorite vehicle. Uh, oh, you know what? I come to think of it. Um, you are number one, you are number one in as much as going out to these events and, uh, shaking hands and interacting and doing that. And this was something that Josh never could do. He, he likes that he, I think he’s good at it, but, uh, it wasn’t anything that we ever had enough money to be able to pay for him to, you know, to fly to places and, um, even just gas money. So, uh, this is, this is all stuff that you’re right there in the middle of this. Not, not certainly not EJS, but all the stuff that’s going on around Detroit, you’re able to go to. And I say around Detroit, you drive three, four hours or more to go to some of these events.

[00:25:22:28 – 00:25:41:21]
Speaker 1
Yeah, but it is, it is fortunate to be right place, right time. I mean, the, the choice no longer the automobile capital of the world. We don’t have the auto show like we once did many years ago, but there’s still the Stellanthus Jeep headquarters is about an hour north of me, 45 minutes. And, uh, just, just being around in the industry

[00:25:42:25 – 00:26:26:05]
Speaker 1
is really neat. American expedition vehicles is 20 minutes from my office. And Greg Henderson shop on official use only is about an hour, 45 minutes away. So it’s, it’s neat just, just to be around and you see the, uh, see what’s out and about, unfortunately, the Jeep or the Chrysler museum was taken down many years ago, but all those concepts are at the Connor Connor assembly plant, which is only about 15, 20 minutes from my house. It’s not a place you can walk in, but you can get permission and go and check it out from time to time. So very, uh, very fortunate and it’d be in being around and seeing, seeing the Jeeps and seeing the concepts occasionally early morning, you’ll see them tooling around and, uh, um, so yeah, that’s just fortunate for me in the show.

[00:26:26:05 – 00:26:57:17]
Speaker 2
So before I, and I’ll let you think about this a little bit, uh, by asking you a question before we get to it, I was going to ask you about, uh, anything that you’d like to cover here on the show, tell people about stuff it, uh, but that, uh, I’d like for you to, uh, uh, to tell me something about your tires. I know that you, you did an agreement, uh, with a tire company and, uh, you got tires for your, for your collider. So now, uh, the kids aren’t coming up to it asking for ice cream, uh, with, uh, driving around with those ice cream tires.

[00:26:57:17 – 00:26:58:20]
Speaker 1
No, no.

[00:26:58:20 – 00:27:05:29]
Speaker 2
You want to put a, put in a plug for the, uh, the tire company that, uh, furnished your Jeep, uh, with, uh, with tires, off-road tires.

[00:27:05:29 – 00:27:11:17]
Speaker 1
Yes. Yeah. Big shout out and thank you to a thorough tires. I’ve got one of their shirts on now. I got the a thorough trail blade.

[00:27:11:17 – 00:27:12:14]
Speaker 2
I didn’t realize that.

[00:27:12:14 – 00:27:25:04]
Speaker 1
Yeah. A thorough trail blade MTS is great tire. Unfortunately, uh, you know, my Jeep was in the dealer for several weeks, uh, because of engine issues, but, uh, been a great tire on the road. Got about 10,000 miles on them already

[00:27:26:11 – 00:28:03:17]
Speaker 1
and that works well in all climates. So far we’ll see what the snow does, but I was out at the, uh, 10th annual Silver Lake sand dunes Jeep invasion did excellent in the sand, especially for a mud tire, uh, that had not been my experience with other tires, especially new tires. Uh, but then they did great. So big, big thanks to a thorough, uh, and, uh, you know, want to give them a shout out great, great tire, uh, as advertised and I knew it had a, uh, you know, a noisy rating and, uh, yeah, you can hear it coming. You can definitely hear it coming. I don’t care. Yeah. I like it. I think it’s cool, but not everybody, not everybody loves it.

[00:28:03:17 – 00:28:07:18]
Speaker 2
Um, there’s always Broncos and, uh, bicycle tires.

[00:28:07:18 – 00:28:21:22]
Speaker 1
Yes. Yeah. But, uh, that’s, that’s not why we buy them for, for quality ride or quiet. And I just turn the radio up or drive faster and listen to the tires hum. But yeah, I’d like, like, like my Turo tires. So Turo Turo’s the way to go for me.

[00:28:21:22 – 00:28:26:21]
Speaker 2
Um, and you got, uh, 35, 12 and a half by 17th, right?

[00:28:26:21 – 00:29:29:02]
Speaker 1
Yes. Yeah. 35, 12, 50, 17 and put it on the. Yes. They were, they were kid, the Jeep wheel. Uh, they were takeoffs, the bead lock capable. Uh, mine came off a high tide Wrangler, uh, but they have the ring, uh, the protection ring, you can get the B lock ring. So there are 17 by eight. So it’s the, the Turo tire has a nice stance on there. It’s just an inch wider. I believe than the type in the wheel that was on my gladiator. I believe the wheel on my gladiator was 17 seven. Uh, and these are 17 eight. So it’s got a nice, a nice stance. It’s a little for me, a little more proper and they don’t stick out. Too, too bad, uh, from the, from the flares. And I got a, you know, gladiator sport. So it has the, the sport flares on there. Uh, and I really liked the way it looks, you know, those are Turos on there. I thought I would want the Rubicon flares, but I, I like the way it looks. The 35 it’s got a nice, nice spacing, uh, and plenty of room. So when I do stuff it up in there and I’m full articulation, I don’t, I don’t believe there’ll be any issue.

[00:29:29:02 – 00:29:39:20]
Speaker 2
All right. Well, as long as you have a properly, uh, uh, maintained and installed lift kit, a lot of that stuff will take care of itself. And you did the AEV lift kit.

[00:29:39:20 – 00:29:53:02]
Speaker 1
Yep. AEV, um, I like their product and they’re two and a half inch. And they say on their website, you can only run up to a 35 inch tall tire with the sport flares. Otherwise they will contact if you run something larger.

[00:29:54:03 – 00:29:55:17]
Speaker 1
So that’s, that’s what I did.

[00:29:55:17 – 00:30:12:29]
Speaker 2
Well, fortunately changing the flares of the aftermarket is not that big a deal. Uh, no, not that expensive, but I don’t, I don’t think, uh, I don’t think that it’ll be a concern. I don’t even think that going out to EJS, uh, I don’t think you’ll have a problem. I didn’t have a problem with mine and I’m running the, uh, the two inch ballpark lift,

[00:30:12:29 – 00:30:16:14]
Speaker 1
so you’ve got 30, 35 on yours as well.

[00:30:16:14 – 00:31:08:05]
Speaker 2
I do. Yeah. I do not, uh, these are famous last words I do not ever see going past, uh, 37. Um, and I suspect, uh, that I won’t do 37, uh, until I, uh, uh, have, uh, put the, uh, get and have installed the, the, the, the lockers. And at that time I’ll have the, the, the, the, the, uh, ring opinion ratio. Uh, that whole thing changed. So the ratio will be, uh, uh, numerically higher, um, lower in the, the overall, uh, gearing so that it will properly operate with those 37s. I’ve got four tens on the 35s and it’s fine. Um, I just going out on the highway, unless it’s really flat, I don’t really get into eighth gear. Um, and, uh, did you ever turn that on, on, on your display on your gladiator so that you can see what gear you’re in?

[00:31:08:05 – 00:31:09:15]
Speaker 1
I’m not.

[00:31:09:15 – 00:32:00:06]
Speaker 2
Yeah. That’s really cool. And it’s, I think it’s really cool too. If you’re worried about, uh, gas mileage, uh, because there’s, you can drive differently. I don’t think, I think, uh, back and forth to E to EJS, uh, to Moab Utah. Uh, I think that I was keeping it around 70 miles an hour. Uh, I mean, going 80 wouldn’t have been a problem, but then again, I wouldn’t have been in seventh gear. I probably would have been sixth gear more often than seventh. And it really makes a difference on long drives like that. Uh, uh, what, uh, what your RPMs are. So, yep. Uh, that’s another thing I look forward to perhaps getting the right gear ratio for the differentials and the eight speed transmission so that, uh, eighth gear is not unusual. I mean, I don’t mind it dropping down to seventh, but if I can say an eighth gear more often, then that’s just money in my pocket.

[00:32:00:06 – 00:32:06:13]
Speaker 1
Yeah. And I, to that point, my, I do notice mine. I don’t have four tens. I have three, seven, three gearing,

[00:32:07:25 – 00:32:31:17]
Speaker 1
and I can feel it hunt between eight and seven on the highway, I do fair amount of highway driving to and from work every day. And I can feel it move to your point. It gets flat and it goes up and then it just, it’s not a big deal. I’ve talked to some guys. I did meet a guy who had 37s on a Willis Wrangler or Willis gladiator would add the three 73 gears and he said it never got much out of fourth or fifth gear, which

[00:32:33:02 – 00:32:34:09]
Speaker 1
doesn’t sound good to me.

[00:32:34:09 – 00:32:37:15]
Speaker 2
That’s all days where those three speed transmissions.

[00:32:37:15 – 00:32:53:27]
Speaker 1
Yeah. So, uh, no, I agree. Uh, yeah. Would it, would it love to gone with 37 inch? Turo’s I mean, they, they were very supportive, you know, they want you put some 37s on there, but, uh, you know, I don’t have the money right now to read gear and wanted to get it going.

[00:32:53:27 – 00:33:20:24]
Speaker 2
Oh, I bet you’d be down a week too. Uh, the getting it into the shop and then changing things and testing everything. You know, um, I remember, uh, I remember our, our previous co-host, uh, who runs a, uh, a drive train shop, uh, actually told me that, uh, you can get ring and pinion that’s been, uh, pre I don’t want to say treated, but has been already, um, fixed, uh, the thing

[00:33:22:03 – 00:33:44:14]
Speaker 2
through, through heating, um, that it, uh, so you don’t have to break them in. It’s like what the factory uses. So I think they’re like a hundred dollars more. So 200 bucks overall. And I love that idea where you get it installed and then you don’t have to drive it 500 miles, drain the fluid, you know, and then you can’t even really get it out on the highway, uh, whenever you’re, when you’re breaking in.

[00:33:44:14 – 00:33:52:13]
Speaker 1
Well, I recall and that had been Greg Henderson had made the claim that sometimes those shops wants you to do that just cause they want to check their work and make sure everything’s tight.

[00:33:53:20 – 00:34:10:00]
Speaker 1
Come back and pull the cover, change the fluid. But now I agree. I mean, something like that, it’s a significant cost, uh, especially cause I would, I don’t have the, I mean, have I set a gear up? May I have one time, but it was just in shop class. I wouldn’t feel right setting my own gear.

[00:34:10:00 – 00:34:31:01]
Speaker 2
Although it would be a horrible feeling cause you’d be so questioning. I mean, if you’re not, if you’re not practiced at it, it’s just one of those things, it’s very sensitive and I’m sure there’s people out there that have done it, just done it on their own. It was fine, but I have a tendency to believe it. It wasn’t their primary vehicle or they had a backup vehicle in case it went horribly wrong

[00:34:31:01 – 00:34:38:17]
Speaker 1
or, or it was an old XJ that was just towed somewhere. Or old TJ that they just, you know, it was a farm rig for lack of a better term.

[00:34:38:17 – 00:34:55:11]
Speaker 2
Yeah. Low mileage off-road mileage. All right, Chris, was there anything you wanted to cover before we wrap up here? Anything you got coming up? Anything that you wanted to mention? I mean, we mentioned the Arturo tires, which I wanted to prompt you for that plug, uh, because they were good enough to provide you some tires.

[00:34:55:11 – 00:35:30:13]
Speaker 1
Yeah, no, that’s, that’s probably about it. Just, um, you know, looking forward to EJS and, uh, I mean, a Theracamper and give a shout out to power again, um, and check out their camper.com thoroughtires.com. Um, just, uh, I got some JKS quicker disconnects, which I think you have on your gladiator, so I got those and preparation for the big trip with Steve. Oh, and then my Jeep was in the dealer for three weeks. So we’ll be getting after that this weekend, hopefully and, uh, get, uh, get it ready for, uh, get it ready for the spring. Uh, looking forward to an early spring and, uh, well EJS and we’ll call it EJS in the spring.

[00:35:30:13 – 00:35:52:24]
Speaker 2
Yeah. EJS would be a lot of fun. That would be a, I look forward to going back someday. Uh, but, uh, it, uh, I’m glad that I got to go a couple of times, a couple of times. I, and, and I think I’ve mentioned this before. I’m not a fan of long drives. Uh, I mean, I do like the idea of going like on a road trip and eat a bunch of junk and seeing things.

[00:35:52:24 – 00:35:53:20]
Speaker 1
Bucky’s.

[00:35:53:20 – 00:37:49:16]
Speaker 2
Yeah. Yeah. Uh, but I do not like the idea of being locked in a vehicle, uh, for hours when you’re getting to a destination. I will absolutely do that anytime I can go to Moab, Utah. It is so beautiful up there and I highly recommend, and this is probably a pretty good, pretty big, pretty good plug for the Jeep talk show community. I highly recommend if you can go and there’s a group of people there, uh, that, you know, even if it’s just online, uh, just to hang out with and eat with and interact and laugh with, um, I know that that was one of the things that made my, uh, my trip out there the first and second time, uh, so good was having, uh, several of the Jeep talk show, uh, uh, team, uh, several of the Jeep talk show, uh, viewers and listeners, uh, being out there and all, all of us just interacting and going and taking up several tables. I think we had, uh, 20 something vehicles, uh, Jeep, uh, Jeep vehicles that were with, uh, out there, uh, with the Jeep talk show. So just very proud of that. I think that’s wonderful that we have enough people, uh, listening and watching the show that, uh, want to be involved, uh, with everybody. And it’s not just me, it’s everybody that’s, it’s, you know, like at the round table, you get to know people on there. Oh, and I will mention this, uh, the, the, the, the, the group, including you, uh, make, uh, off-road event, uh, discussions and, uh, plans and whatnot on our discord server, uh, and, uh, you can find out all that information by going over to a jeep talk show.com slash contact and find out how to get on our discord, join our round table, uh, watch movie night, uh, which is, is fun. Think of mystery science theater 3000, where everybody’s making the making comments about the video that we’re watching. It’s a, I think it’s, I’ve said it before. It’s the, like the Jeep version of a mystery science theater 3000. So, cause it’s usually Jeep related.

[00:37:52:08 – 00:38:06:28]
Speaker 2
All right, Chris, unless you got anything to add. If you do jump right in there, but, uh, if, uh, if that’s it, then we’re going to let you guys go and get back to your normal day. Uh, hopefully you’re still here after all the Tesla talk at the beginning, but like I said, at the front, if not, fuck you.

[00:38:09:23 – 00:38:10:10]
Speaker 1
Thanks, Tony.

[00:38:10:10 – 00:38:11:01]
Speaker 2
Thank you.
