Jeep Talk Show

A Show About Jeeps!

Episode 1028 – ICE Is NICE!

Jeep RECON NOT an EV?

You guys heard it here first, just a few episodes back.  The new CEO of Jeep was considering adding ICE to the RECON.  Shaken not stirred.

Logic and facts seem to be gaining popularity in the automotive industry.  How do you think Jeep came to the conclusion that the RECON should have an internal combustion engine?

Shirley, they0 had the same information 2 years ago that they have now.  Range, available chargers, etc…

Could it be dismal EV sales?

I know where to find gas, I can jump in my Jeep and drive and drive, eat bad food, and take lots of crappy pictures on a road trip on a whim.  I don’t think I have that freedom with an EV.  Or maybe I do but I don’t feel like I do, so I stay home and next to my electrical outlet.

There can only be one!

We have the original Jeep Cherokee to thank for the crossover’s rise. Released in 1984, and called XJ internally, the model gained a loyal following by bridging the gap between family-friendly station wagons and burly body-on-frame SUVs.

Did you, or your parents, ever have a station wagon?  A friend of mine, Clark Griswold bought a brand new station wagon for a family trip back in 1983.  Not a truck, not a car, but a little of both.

My Dad had an unnatural love for the El Camino.  The definition of a mullet.  Or a reverse mullet party up front, business in the back.  He always wanted one but never owned one.  Hell Ford even had a half car, half truck.

Our beloved XJ really set the world on fire.  Now you could have a Jeep that took you places few other vehicles could go and it could take you to boring places as well but you didn’t have to look boring driving a station wagon.

3 million Jeep Cherokee XJs later and the world is full of cross-over SUV copycats.

When will Jeep come out with another revolutionary vehicle?  I think those days are gone, now only playing catch up.

Jeep Talk Show Gladiator Update

I was doing stuff with the 2021 Jeep Talk Show Gladiator the other day and I wondered how the Motobilt skid system was holding up, literally!

It’s heavy and I wanted to make sure it was all still there and nothing was drooping down.  I’m a worry wart.

To my surprise, the Motobilt skid system protected me from damage!  I don’t recall ANYTHING that would have led me to believe that the skids came into contact with anything in Moab.

Far too high to be anything from the mall, so it must have been Moab.  Actually, there were a couple of places on the GONE-GPN run that it may have made contact with, but the cool thing is I wasn’t aware of any of it!  What a great plus for a skid system.  You focus on driving and not, oh crap what did I bend, break, or what’s leaking!?!?

I believe I’ve already mentioned that the 250 pounds of skid system weight does not seem to have changed the MPG and certainly wasn’t an issue driving the Jeep.

All steel, not aluminum or that new stuff, that’s basically synthetic armor (very light, but you have to keep it out of the Sun).  It’s steel like a battleship Bubba!
