Uh, ideal boys and girls, it’s time for another Jeep talk show interview. And tonight we’re going to be talking with Ryan. Uh, Ryan is with Ryan. Is that Gladius, Gladius off road, Gladius. Okay. We’re going to ask, I’m going to ask you about that name here in just second. I’m sure, I’m sure that’s something that you, uh, you get asked about. So Ryan is the owner of Gladius off road. Uh, he is a lifelong Jeep enthusiast and actually has actually owned over 40.(…) Good Lord, man. You got a problem. That’s the only thing it would be the only way it’d be worse as if it was cats.(…) Yeah.
(…)
He has an extensive background in art and design, uh, put the two together and you get Gladius off road. Um, and real quick, uh, the, the website is Gladius off road.com. G L A D I U S O F F R O A D Gladius off road.com. You got to go over there. Now, um, would it be safe to say that Gladius off road is primarily, uh, emblems like, uh, like, for example, uh, we all have a Jeep emblems on our Jeeps. So it would be an emblem like that, but it’s, and again, you correct me, but is it like, uh, only 3d or do you do like just the sticker ones like used to come on Jeeps or is it all the, the raised plastic type thing?(…) So I can step back a little bit. What actually started this, uh, I got my gladiator and I had done vinyl graphics for a long time. I never got into it real heavy, even printing or anything, but I, I did it years ago, um, I was running it as a business, kind of fast and furious days. Um,(…) well, I had made, when I got my gladiator, the first thing I did, I was, uh, I was hauling some wood in the back and how the tailgate sits at that 60 degree angle with strap it up. Uh, I had, when I had strapped it down and broke off the little, um, uh, brackets, they’re not, I think they’re like a nylon or something from the factory. So my machine is buddy and I, we came up with a billet aluminum bracket for the gladiator to fix it. And I, as I, as that’s pretty cool. I think other people might like this. So I started selling it under the name, Gladius off road, Gladius. You’d asked about it. Um, all it really was, it’s the sword, um, that the, the gladiator guy uses a sword there it’s called the Gladius. Um, and since back then I was pretty much targeting just gladiator stuff. That’s where that name came from. Um, and then I brought out an antenna bracket for the gladiator because I built one for mine and thought other people might like it. So I brought that out and I went for about a year with nothing. And then I started doing the emblems. Uh, I got into it from my other business. I had bought the laser to do some engraving on some parts and I always wanted to do these emblems. So I started cutting them and they’re a lot like vinyl graphics. They’re just thicker. Right. Um, the artworks, the same, the process is, is, is fairly similar. And, uh, since I have the artwork background for it, that was real easy for me, uh, to transfer over to the laser.(…) Well, I wanted to do, obviously do some Jeep stuff. Uh, so that’s when I started looking at licensing, uh, with Mopar. Now, now, wait a minute. Wait a minute. This is one of the things I wanted to talk to you about. Did you, were you doing this stuff and then Jeep contacted you and you went, Oh yeah, I’d like to license. Oh, you did this, you did this pre, uh, Jeep, so you see some desist letter. No, I actually never got a season to say, um, I actually started trying to get license and it was so hard to find. Cause you don’t actually do it with Jeep. There’s a third party licensing company and there’s two different ones. One of them does apparel. Like I’m not licensed to do hats. I can’t do, um, the Jeep. I can’t do Jeep shirts. I can’t, I can’t even do Jeep stickers and believe it or not. But I can do, I got licensed for the emblems and I got licensed to do the sticker overlays for factory emblems. The ones where you just put over top of them. I don’t do them. I just don’t have an interest in it. But I actually got licensed for that too.
(…)
Um, I never got the letter. I did have some random third party company send me a letter. Um, this is when I first got started and it wasn’t about really, it was, uh, I did a, a Hemi one just playing around. I cut a Hemi logo. And I didn’t sell it or anything. I just cut one and I had a picture on Instagram and they got me on that. Really?(…) Wow. So this was through that whole, the whole time, um,(…) of, uh, trying to get licensed. It took me forever to find the actual company to go through. When I found out it was actually pretty simple, um, moving forward after that, but it took me a long time to find. I, I was messaging the company and emailing and calling, but they were the, a pair of one and they just blew me off. Um, when I finally found the automotive side one, it really, uh, it started to go a little bit quicker.
(…)
Um, but the, I had a company message. They were not nice about that. Hemi one. So at the time I had had a gladiator one up on, uh, that I had done too. And so I started talking to attorneys and there was some, there’s some gray areas with trademark law. I won’t give in now. It’s it’s a mess, but, um,(…) essentially I was okay. To do gladiator, just not Jeep or anything like that. But since I wanted to market the gladiator ones towards the Jeep gladiator, that sort of thing, you know, I’m, I’m actually at the time when they contacted me, I was trying to get licensed. So I kept pushing through with it. Finally it all kind of fell in place and took about a year, um, and quite a bit of money to get it all set and done. But I, uh, I wanted to put the investment into it. I thought it’d be cool to do. Oh, it’s, it’s the right, absolute right way of doing it. It’s, it’s the same. I guess it’s, it’s good in a way because any, any competitor that you, uh, have or will have, uh, they’re going to have to go through these same hoops that you already went through. So it’s, it’s almost like a gateway type thing that can keep people a speed bump, uh, to keep the, the people that are not as motivated to go through the whole process. And it’s been a mess because there’s a couple of guys out there that aren’t licensed that I do compete with. And it’s, it’s tough to compete on price. So I, I started to try and make a better product. And that’s what I, um, I put a lot more into mine. I do more colors. I do more options. I do. Um, they don’t really mess with the Jeep stuff. So like the Jeep fender, I’m on so much, um, is they do the gladiator tailgates and that, but, uh, there’s still a competitor. There’s only, um, one other guy out there that I know of that’s licensed. It doesn’t, he, he does a, I think it’s all black. Um, and he does it. It’s actually in the mobile store and that kind of thing. But, um, we don’t really, even though we’re just on the same thing, we’re both licensed for it. We don’t really compete much because all he does is that just black gladiator tailgate, um, where I have, um, hundreds of colors, um, if not thousands of colors, to be honest, uh, I try and stock, um, about 50 colors that I try and keep in stock all the time. And then I’ve got probably another 50 colors here, just random dollars around and patterns and such like that. Uh, and then I started coming out with different designs. So instead of just doing two color stack, I’ve got a three color, I’ve got a, uh, two color, it’s a negative. It looks like it’s machined out. If you do it all in one color and, um, just trying to do things different and better. Um, but that steps back to the most important aspect of my business is miss my customer service. I don’t run my business like anyone else. And I think it surprises a lot of people when they,(…) um, when they see how I, how I treat them and how I handle things and take care of things for them. Um, but that’s always been real important to me because like I said, I’m a jeeper. I buy parts from places and I know what it’s like when you buy something and, um, you’re expecting it to show up in a week or two and it’s a month and you have to call them and they’re like, Oh, we don’t have that in stock. Yeah. Don’t, why am I the one having to be to find out this information? I’m the customer. Yeah,(…) exactly right. And it can be quite a task keeping up with all of it too, because, uh, I mean, there’s other things going on at the business that maybe the people aren’t aware of, and I would imagine the juggling, the, the multitasking, can you get quite insane at times? It being, um,(…) so it’s, I don’t have employees. Um, my, my daughter, she helps me a little bit. If I take a vacation for a weekend or something, um, she can kind of step in and run the laser and do most of the stuff. My wife is learning, um, my stepson, he’ll come out and he can put some of the smaller emblems together for me. Um, but it’s me. So, uh, you know, this is my shot. I’m not a big corporation and I’m kind of proud of that. I guess, um, I’ve got a, it’s about 20 by 20 little shop. I’ve got two lasers here to my right. And then, um, all my acrylic and stuff behind me. So the shipping department is over there and the cutting departments over here and, um, warehouses over here. So, so you need one of those like hats, those Sherlock Holmes hats, except it has multiple bills. So you can just spin it, you know, the one here’s my job I’m currently doing.(…) Yeah. I, um, I’m one of those guys. I’m not happy if I’m sitting still. So for me, um, you know, I’ll get something on the machine and get it cutting. And while it’s cutting, I’m over masking up one and then packing up orders. And it’s just the three spots. I kind of keep rotating around and keep it running. Um, and most of the time I hold pretty good. Um, it’s been picking up and getting busier since we did Toledo. It’s, it’s been pretty much nonstop. Um, so it is a man of many hats. Um, so I’m glad you mentioned Toledo because this is actually how I found out about you cause Chris from the Jeep talk show was out there doing interviews and stuff, and he went by and do your booth and Toledo Jeep Fest and, uh, did an interview with you, which we’ve put up on, on YouTube, if you guys haven’t already seen it, I wasn’t speaking to YouTube. Uh, this, uh, this interview is up on YouTube so you can watch and see, uh, what, uh, what I’m seeing and, uh, uh, what Ryan is seeing simply by going to a Jeep talk show on a YouTube and have it a look. All right. So anyway, uh, the Toledo Jeep Fest, the, one of the things that I was really impressed by the quality from what I saw in the, the, the video that Chris shot, uh, was the quality of the product that you have. He was very impressed with it. And, uh, and I would assume that, uh, that your customers are too. Do you have any problems, uh, convincing people to, to buy your product? Because they’re, unless they see it directly, it’s, it’s kind of a gamble. I mean, you can see in the images and so on and so forth, what’s there, but it’s not really the same thing as seeing it in person.
(…)
And that’s Toledo was the first big show I did. I did, um, uh, one here, um, a small show last fall. Uh, and that was the first show we did, but Toledo was the first big show. So it was nice to actually get out and actually let people see them in person and see what kind of interaction did you get where people just really surprised and especially, I thought the multiple colors, the multiple layers was really, it was a cool idea.(…) Yeah. It was, uh, I had a great response. I don’t,(…) uh, I don’t think I had anyone that, that seemed like they were either upset with the price or that the quality just wasn’t there if they weren’t, um, people really seem to like it, which was important to me. That’s, you know, I want a good product. Um, this, I’ve, like I said, I’ve owned over 40 Jeeps. Um, and that’s just the Jeeps I’ve owned cars too, and some different trucks and stuff, but mostly, uh, Dodge stuff. I was a big Dodge neon guy back in the day. Um,(…) I always with the Jeeps, especially, and you customize them, you can put stickers on there, but nobody really made a replacement emblem. You can either paint factory ones you could, um, you know, or stickers pretty much all that was your really, your only options. Right. And that’s where I had this idea years ago that I was like, it’d be cool if we can actually make emblems somehow. And I thought about 3d printing and molding them and that. And then, um, once I learned that I could do this with the laser, it kind of clicked. So I think for a lot of people, they’re kind of in the same boat. They don’t realize that they can even get these type of things. So when they see them in person, it’s like, Oh, wow, that’s a whole new number, not just a sticker or, or, you know, an overlay or something. Yeah. You know, I, I would guess that people that are into classic vehicles, especially if they’re restoring classic vehicles, getting those emblems that were the 3d metal emblems would probably be their first, um, uh, vision or understanding that there’s, there’s places that you can go and get stuff like this, but the modern day stuff, especially out of plastic, I can see how that might be. Uh, where, where would I find anything like this? And I was also going to mention earlier, you know, how Jeepers love stickers. Uh, I can’t help but think that they love this even more cause it’s 3d it’s, it’s, you know, it sticks out. It’s it, it looks quality instead of just a vinyl sticker. Right. And, and I’m constantly upgrading things. I just changed the Mojave artwork a little bit to try and make it, uh, uh, match a little bit better. It was an earlier one I did that wasn’t quite on. Um, I, I just got a new color in that’s a match to the same color of there’s a great, so on the Rubicon and Mojave emblems, uh, you have the orange with the red background, it’s got a chart, this grayish charcoal metallic color on top. And I finally got a color to match it. Now I’m working with a acrylic supplier that, um, they’re able to get custom colors made for me. It’s a long process.(…) I’m able to get some colors that I couldn’t have before that aren’t easily available. They’ve been awesome for me. Um, uh, so I’m constantly trying to, to bring out more things and fill every ever need for everybody. Um, I love doing the resto mod stuff. I get a lot of people, they, um, they’re restoring something, uh, and they’re putting a different motor in it and they want something. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Oh, we OEM and or a stroker, you know, like you put a stroker and you’d like to have the new, uh, lead leader displacement on there. Yeah. I just did a today. I just did a four 26 emblem that looks the same style as the 392 emblem on the, you know, three 92. Uh, but I’ve done a lot of the older stuff of the same thing too. I did it like an oldsmobile or it wasn’t the oldsmobile, but the, it was a 455 or something. Right. Yeah. Um, I did some J 10 J 10 ones a while back. They were pretty cool. And I actually just, um, I just redid all the ones, uh, the old CJ five CJ seven, um, CJ eight, the old little Jeep with, um, it’s got like the little red, white and blue flag next to it. Um, I just did all those ones and brought them out. The only thing with those is there’s, those are actually available. Um, OEM ones aftermarket still, the difference in, this is where I stand out from that is if you don’t want the little red, white and blue flag, or you don’t want it silver and black, you want it, you know, green and white. Um, I can make customized. Yeah. You want it to be the way you want it. Of course. That’s the wonderful thing about you doing this things is that, uh, people can have their vision and actually have their vision the way they see it. Even if it sucks, it’s, it’s still their vision. It started with the gladiator tailgates. That’s kind of what I was leaning towards. And that’s why it’s glad it’s off road head. I thought ahead or whatever. I probably would have named it, you know, something cool, emblems or something. But well, you make the name and it doesn’t really matter as long as the quality is there and you have the customers that name, that name becomes meaningful to somebody. I mean, look at Amazon. I mean, that was the hell’s Amazon. Right.
(…)
Um, so there’s a couple of different styles I do as far as, um, I do the cut acrylic, which, uh, you lay the sheet in and it cuts it out and then I can stack them up or I can do, um, uh, it’s called, I call it curve cut, but it actually offsets the inner, the inner piece, uh, point of the six, six thousandths of an inch or something. So they kind of snap into each other and then you get flush, which I do that, um, on, on some stuff as well.(…) And then I do, uh, an engraved as well. Um, so I, I engraved on matte black, you can engrave and it shows up, which I do like topography lines and stuff on some of the, uh,(…) they’re a little more expensive because of the time it takes to do it, but they’re something kind of unique and cool. Um, I want to, like I said, I want to be, um,(…) I want to be the, the company that not that I charge a ton, but I want to be up here. I don’t want to be down here with everyone else. Yeah. Innovation. You want to be innovative. You want to stand out. Absolutely.
(…)
Like I told someone the other day, I says, uh, you know, some people like rough country, some people like Curry, you know, so that’s, you know, I want to be up there, um, with the quality, you know, but I also, I try to keep my price fair to everybody. Um, you know, I do have some emblems. I say, so on the other day that things were more expensive ones I’ve done. Uh, it was about 350 bucks. Um, and that’s, that was, um, it was camouflage piece together, like a puzzle of four different colors, snow.
(…)
That’s amazing. It was, it was pretty cool. I only did two. I did a regular camo and I did snow camel. That was the only two I’ve done. And the only ones I’m going to do because of the difficulty. Right. Um, but, but I also like, I have like the old school Jeep on, um, it’s, it’s actually, I took a gladiator tailgate and I overlaid my artwork on it and spaced it and sized it to get it right. And then overlaid it onto the gladiator tailgate, which I have drawn digitally so I can see the holes to cover the holes in it. So it’s as close as I could get it to the actual OEM original gladiator tailgate for the old school Jeep one.
(…)
And I offer that in a single color. I think it’s like a hundred, $109 or something. Um, it’s one of the cheaper options for a tailgate demo, but I try to keep things reasonable and fair. I think mine are actually less than OEM. Um,(…) you know, and I try to keep them around there because I know that there’s deepers out there that are going, I’m right by America’s most wanted. So they’re going over there and spending, you know, 250 K on a, on a gladiator. But there’s guys, you know, out there that are, you know, Pinch and Penny used to try and get into a, the majority, uh, the majority of Jeepers are pinch and pennies. They’re not going to America’s most wanted four by four, which is a great place. And a wonderful place to, uh, to get you in high end Jeep. It’d be a lot of fun. Uh, but, uh, yeah, the majority of us are, are not rich. So let me ask you this and I’m, and I’ve got to figure that you have toyed with this, if you’re not currently doing it, uh, led lighting. Um, cause I just can’t imagine anybody not wanting a gladiator tailgate logo. That’s backlit by, by led. And then people don’t think about running the power and stuff, but you can do that. You can run it down through the, uh, the back, especially since there’s already a hole there, uh, for the, uh, the Jeep logo. Um, have you considered doing anything with led lighting? Are you doing anything with led lighting? Um, well, you know me better than you think. I, uh, I did look into it. Um, I, I designed it. I designed a couple of different ways to do it.(…) And leds were hard because there’s the space back there would have been pretty thick. So I looked into like, remember the old EL glow. It was that, um, kind of blue or greenish tape. It was real thin tape that, uh, they used to do, um, gauge clusters with it. Oh, okay. Um, so I looked into having those done and I talked to a company overseas about doing it and it was going to be like $300 a letter. So I was like, I don’t think people want to spend that much for a light up. So I, I messed with it for a little while. Then I kind of abandoned the idea. Um, I have a, uh, customer I’m actually working with right now. We’re looking at trying to do a light up, um, uh, like where the trail rated badge goes, um, we’re looking at trying to do one of those that lights up. So we’ll see how that goes. But what I did instead is I’ve got, um, five or six colors of glow in the dark, um, material, um, and they, uh, I’ve been doing like tailgate emblems and fender emblems with the, um, the glow in the dark. And, um, it’s pretty cool. Uh, some of the colors aren’t quite as bright during the day as I would like them to be, but like the blue, the blue is really cool and lights up bright blue. Um, we’ve done quite a bit of those. And then I got into another material. It’s a UV. So it’s like a creamy, creamy white color.
(…)
And when you walk out in the sun, it turns color, like the old matchbox cars and we were kids, um, actually changes real bright. Um, I’ve got that in like four or five different colors too. Um, so I do kind of touch into the little bit different stuff, but just as far as lighten them up, um, it was just so expensive to get in. And then I almost would have had to build essentially a track where they all went in, um, to be able to run the light and the wires from each letter to each letter across the tailgate. Um, yeah, people don’t think about the logistics behind, uh, the putting all that on there, it’s just, I can run a power line, but how do you get it between letters without seeing it cross? Uh, behind the letters. Where it would drive me nuts if I could see wires. So I actually had a thin track behind it and I, I designed it all and it probably, I probably could have went overseas, you know, China or something and had them build them for me. But, um, I didn’t think that it would be enough people wanting it really to be worthwhile. No. Yeah. I mean, there would be a few people, but, uh, I mean, Oracle lighting does a lot of stuff that I’m really surprised about, and they’re doing a kick-ass job as far as lighten up the night, uh, with, uh, with all their, their things. So I know people are interested in it. They may not be interested in paying for it though.(…) I, uh, I thought about reaching out to Oracle to see if we could find a way. Cause they have that tailgate cover that they built, um, to see if we could make, cause I actually have made a couple of gladiator or smaller to fit on there. Um, it’s a big cover. I think it reminds me of a, uh, I was a Dodge dark or whatever. Yeah. Yeah. The, the, it’s like the, I think they call it the, the racetrack, uh, modification. It’s cool. And I just don’t think it’s very off-road ish, but I still like it because it’s lights and I love, I love bright lights. So. Well, people pull off the Jeep one to put that on. And that’s where I, um, I’ve made a couple of gladiator ones. That’s a great idea. Smaller. Yeah. No, that’s a great idea.(…) Cause of that, if they, if they cut out the letters or something to make it light up, I could make one over top of it that lit up, you know, with transparency and stuff, but, um, I’ve, uh, one thing I do that, that the other companies out there that compete with me don’t do, uh, is I can do custom tailgates. So if you want to, you know what to say, uh, a name or a word, or I do a lot of business ones too, across the back. Um, I have the tailgate digitally drawn so I can overlay letters to see where the holes are at the location to make sure they’re going to cover it. And then I build my template system, um, custom built for that one off of it. Um, so I get a lot of people, uh, that want funny names. I’ve done gladiator, gladdy, hater, right. You know, all across the back. Um, but I do a lot of, um, business ones for people. They want their logo on the back, that sort of thing. And as far as I know, I’m the only one out there doing that. Um, so that kind of gives me, you know, something. Well, people, people like doing the cookie cutter thing. Cookie cutter is more sales and more money and the customization, I think is, is where it’s really cool because, I mean, that’s what, I mean, let’s look at it. You’ve had 40 Jeeps and you know, uh, you want to make that Jeep your own. You want to make it special. You want to make it stand out just that little bit from everybody else. And the customization work I think is, is just really, if you, if you can make the time to do it, it’s that’s the, that’s the way to go.(…) Yeah. That’s, uh, where I’ve really tried to lean towards and to be flexible for people. So if someone, you know, they’re building a project, um, like that four 26 when I did there, they messaged me and, um, it was a four by four shop and they’re like, Hey, we’re, we’re putting this four 26 in here. We’d really like to do, uh, um, you know, redo the badging on the hood or whatever. So, uh, it took me a day. I think they messaged me yesterday. I’ve already got it shipped out to them. Um, but having that flexibility to do custom stuff that, that you can’t find anywhere, you know, that would take a while for the most part to find, to find it. Yeah. How do you search for it? You know, what do you, what do you even type in for the search? Yeah. That’s one of the great, great things about us doing these interviews like this is because we make it easier for people to find, uh, companies like yourself.(…) So there’s, um,(…) another side that I do, uh, which, um, I’ve done some for like the Overland guys and stuff like that. There’s a material I can get. It’s a two color acrylic.(…) Uh, so it’s essentially like coded. So when I engrave it, if it’s black, I engrave it, it turns white, um, which that part’s cool because it lets me do finer details that I can’t do with cut acrylic. Cause you start cutting. I’ve had some pieces where I’m using tweezers to put together and stuff. Um, it’s just, it gets pretty. Yeah. So I found, um, so I can do, you know, stuff like this here. I did up for you guys. I did a couple of these, you know, get a center here. Oh, there we go.(…) It’s so funny. I was actually going to ask you about that. Cause Chris said, uh, we were talking before the, we do in the interview and he said, he talked to you about that. And I said, uh, I said, I think three, three inch by three inches, come up, we’re going to be too small, uh, too much detail. Cause there’s a lot of detail in that logo in there. Yeah. Well, and that’s with using here, I can get in there and I can get a lot finer than that as well. Um, the engraving goes, uh, that detailed. Let me, let me see that logo again. I got you full screen now.
(…)
Turn that a little bit. Oh, that looks wonderful. Turn that to the side a little bit. So we can, everybody can see the 3d nature of it. Oh, that’s so cool. Two layers. It’s essentially, um, the, the black it’s black that engraves white on top and then a white background behind it. So, well, thank you very much for doing that. That’s great to show. I mean, uh, it’s so funny. Like I said, I was just talking to Chris about it. He goes, yeah, I talked to him about doing the logo, but it might’ve been too small. Uh, uh, too much detail for that size. And it looks like it turned out absolutely wonderful. Thank you for having that to show us. I think that size can be perfect on a fender. Um, I think it’s actually about three and a half, but in case it was four, I think I scaled it down to say here. Um,(…) but I, uh, I do a lot of stuff like that for shops that, uh, they want to have more than a sticker. They want something a little cooler to put on. Um, I’m doing some right now for a shop that builds higher end Jeeps and they, they they’ve been putting sticker on there. They wanted something that looks just a little more classy and stuff. So that’s exactly right. When the 3d nature of it, it’s not just somebody that, that used a cry cut or my wife gives me a hard time. I want to call it a cry cut a cricket, uh, to, you know, to cut out the, the die cuts, uh, stickers. I mean, anybody can make a sticker these days, uh, but not, not anybody can do what you’re just doing right there. I mean, uh, it’s, it’s, it’s kind of the same thing, except you’re using a laser and a computer. Uh, it’s just, uh, now you can cut a physical, uh, thick physical objects instead of just a vinyl. Yep.(…) It’s a, it’s a cool machine when you get into, I’ve made parts for, for my home theater. Yeah. You know, um, I make templates for things all the time. Um, the kids come out, I make, uh, this little cross necklace I cut out, you know, I cut earrings for my wife. Are you on Etsy? Are you selling stuff on Etsy? Uh, just my albums on Etsy. I sell emblems on Etsy. I do not sell the other stuff on Etsy. Little crosses and stuff.(…) Yeah. I, um, so what I, what started that is I actually, I made some little crosses and, uh, I made a little holder, uh, and set it on the info booth at church. And I’ve got all these little cross emblems in there. I just restock them every couple of weeks when I go in and I just, you know, for free, I don’t sell them or nothing. Um, just put them up there. Um, but the, uh, I do, I try to not get into too much of the, the artsy craft stuff, um, because it could, I’m just too busy with the Jeep stuff to be honest. Yeah. A little bit. No, if you’re busy enough now, you don’t need to be more busy.(…) My, uh, my wife won’t hesitate to say, Hey honey, we’re going to Florida. I need some, you know, flamingo earrings and, um, I’ll be out here cutting flamingo earrings for her. Um, but that’s the fun part of it too. Is it’s, it’s really versatile. So, um, my neighbor has a CNC and he makes signs and stuff. So he’ll come over and have me cut something for him and, um, do stuff back and forth, so it’s kind of, uh, all over the place with what I can do with it. But I try to stick with, with just doing the emblems and stuff. Um, I enjoy it and I enjoy the customer base and, um, it gets, there’s days it gets old if I’m just doing, you know, black and red, black and orange and stuff, but then I get some really fun ones in there. I’m doing some ones right now that are wrecking my brain or super tedious, uh, um, inlaid three color. Uh, it’s a gladiator helmet for, uh, for a girl’s Jeep. Um, and, and that kind of stuff, I’m going to be sitting here for a couple hours, putting pieces together and I cut it and you take out all the pieces and it’s like a puzzle, you know, so, uh, it’s gonna be, it’s going to be really neat when you try something that you haven’t done before. And then you start, especially something that’s that detail and you piece it together and then even you were surprised that how good that came out. That’s going to be the, the, the wonder moment of it. And, uh, also to the success. So we haven’t mentioned the website here. You guys need to go over to gladdiasoffroad.com. Uh, so you can look at some of this stuff and, uh, you have, uh, some, some standard, uh, emblems here that I’m looking at under the, the Wrangler emblems. And, uh, for example, here’s a three 92, uh, emblem single $29. So that gives you guys an idea. This isn’t, you know, the isn’t 300 or $500. This is something that’s very affordable, uh, for you to, uh, you know, modernize your, your Jeep or customize your Jeep. I like this, uh, retro Wrangler cursive emblem. I think that is really cool. That has a nice fifties, uh, style, just the color combination, the cursive writing. And I could see somebody, uh, you know, putting something like that on their Wrangler, especially if it was a, uh, like a, uh, a YJ or maybe even a TJ, something that’s one of the older. Uh, Wranglers. That’s a newer one, um, that I just brought out and I brought it out because, uh, I have, um, the gladiator one like that. And it seemed to be taken off. It was real popular. Now that one compared to the three 92, I have to sell those there and 60 bucks or something, um, but they take two, three times as long to make it. People don’t realize that. You can see, you can see the detail there, the different colors, the, uh, it’s, it’s gorgeous.(…) The, um, so, uh, I’ve been had a lot of jail guys actually getting those in a couple of days recently as well as the newer guys have been getting them. Um, I’ve got the old school gladiator one like that on my Jeep, um, which I really like and it grabs a lot of attention.(…) So I’m working on, I just, it’s just time, time to sit down and do it. And that’s what you’re saying when I can sit down and make something work. Well, it’s the same thing with the artwork. I have to sit down and draw it. So I’ll sit in bed at night and draw. And then Fridays or Saturdays, when I’m caught up, I can come out here and I call it prototype day and I’ll sit out here and just cut stuff and see what I can come up with. So the next one I want to do is a Cherokee one. I think it’d be pretty cool. Same style, three colors like that, but do a Cherokee one. I think it’d be pretty cool.(…) So I like this other, I was looking at the gladiator stuff and I see that you on the grab handle, you have a gladiator that you can put on the grab handle, which is neat.(…) Yeah. The gladiators for whatever reason, they didn’t come stamped like Wrangler says Wrangler on it. Where were some of them do? I guess there’s some that don’t, I didn’t realize that mine is not. Yeah. I had someone ask me like, well, I want a Wrangler one. And so that I’m, I’m working on getting that out as well. That biggest thing with, with this business being a small business, you know, like this is my little shop. It’s built into my garage. I took about a third of my garage and I, you know, closed it off so I can heat it in the winter. Um, it’s not air conditioned. I’m at 80,(…) 83 degrees right now in here. Um, I got my little fan going. Oh, that just makes you work faster. Right. Yeah. Um, I don’t mind it too much. Uh, in the wintertime when it’s real cold, that’s not fun, but I do have a heater. It just takes a while to get a horn. Um,(…) but, uh, I don’t know how long I was going with that, but, um,
(…)
Yeah, no, no problem. Now I’m looking at one, uh, Jeep fender emblems, uh, with the topographical stuff on that, the topo stuff is pretty, uh, is pretty cool. I mean, uh, I also see a tailgate emblem that has the topo, uh, it’s a topographic markings on it, which would be really neat. That’s a, a gladiator for, I would assume, yeah, tailgate emblem. Uh, that one’s two 69. So that’s, those are nice big letters. Uh, and they’re bordered with orange, uh, on, on this specific one I’m looking at. Yeah. I’ve actually got Mojave done in that too. I just don’t have it on the website yet, but I have all the artwork done for Mojave, uh, with the, uh, engraving and then the Jeep fender ones with it. Um, I keep them to the two color. I technically could do it in a three color. Um, but it just, the prices gets up there so high. I don’t want someone to land on my site and land on that and be like 400 bucks. You know, and leave the site, not realizing that that’s one of the more expensive ones. Right. Uh, you know, the, uh, the little engraved ones and stuff like that, I think those are like 30 bucks for the, for the grab handles and stuff, and those have been popular because, um, you know, I said they weren’t the gladdies have nothing. And then the Wrangler, some of them do some don’t, um, I.(…) I can do custom ones for in there and I get asked every now and then, but they’re hard to do with that because I’m limited. That one is engraved material, like the ones I did for you guys. Uh, but it’s a one 16th inch material. So it’s flexible enough to curve to the handle. Um, I get asked a lot to do hood ones, but same thing, my material is too thick. It will not curve to the hood. So on those ones, I recommend, uh, I sent everyone to Greg actually, um, you know, to Greg Lilly from underground graphics to do the, um, uh, hood ones, cause I just can’t do them and we send people back and forth all the time. Um,(…) but, uh, it’s a good working relationship between us. I’ve been trying. Greg’s great. Yeah. And he’s such a wonderful job over there. And, uh, I just tired of seeing a bunch of a bullshit Bronco stuff that he’s doing.
(…)
Everything he has on, on, on, on line now is the Bronco, this and Bronco that, um, that’s one thing I did. Let me grab this sticker. All right. One, um,(…) I think I’m out of it, but I got it on the shirt. This was one of the, uh,(…) fine. One of the ones with the, this was one of the more popular shirts at Toledo.
(…)
The duck and the, uh, was that a unicorn?
(…)
No, it’s a Bronco. It’s got, Oh, of course. I was just mentioning Bronco. Yeah. It says board on the, on the little blue emblem there, but, um, that was one that, uh, I did just being fun or being funny and messing around. So this, that opens up a whole nother world of emblems that you can do. Cause there’s, uh, the jeepers, like sometimes, uh, saying negative things or having negative images of Broncos. So, uh, you could, uh, you could actually reach out to you about something that, uh, that you’d like, might like to have custom, uh, that’s anti Bronco on your Jeep personally, personally. I think it’s just the best ideas. It’s not, not paying me any attention. Let them go do their own thing. I don’t, I don’t have no issue with them, you know, but I, uh, online, everybody gives each other crap. So I came out with, I actually did it as a sticker first and people like the stickers. So I, uh, did it as a shirt and that was the best selling shirt we had at, uh, Toledo, everyone can guide, a guy come up. He’s like, I want that shirt. You know, and I had an old, older lady by, it was funny that people are buying the Bronco killer shirt. Um, I did, uh, I have a friend and I went to school with, and she’s an illustrator. So I had her draw it up for me and I digitized it and everything. Um, we’ve done some funny stuff over the years together. So something I was going to mention, uh, earlier and I didn’t get around to it. Um, the, I don’t think a lot of people know that the gladiator emblem that, uh, that has been very popular for the gladiators, that gladiator emblem is copyrighted by Jeep. So where you’re getting this stuff, it very definitely, uh, can, uh, those businesses that are selling those without licensing agreements can get in trouble, uh, selling that to you and, uh, and your license, yeah, your license to sell these things. So if you want to go to a legit, legit place, uh, Gladius off road and you also have the, uh, not the markers, what do you call it? The little thing you put up there so you can get the letters in the right place and the right spacing and never.(…) The, um, I just call them templates, but, um, there’s, there’s one of my competitors that have first, I went into a limited off-road in, uh, Fenton, Michigan, buddy of mine owns it. And I went in there, he says, my wife ordered a kit and, um, uh, he wanted me to come down and take a look at it. And I was like, let’s just redo it. I’ll make you a new one. And the, this, the spacer they had was a half inch wide stick, like literally a piece of wood and you’re supposed to put it between the sweater.
(…)
The problem with that is you get letters, uh, like where the, oh, so the, the top of the O is angled and the top of the T is angled. Well, if you paint that T out this way, the spacing looks off for the rest of the letter. So you actually have to, it’s the kerning is what they call that. Yeah, exactly. But the, uh, you have to space it closer. So they’re not all equal. So what I did is I actually create a laser cut template. So when the laser goes around and cuts out the letter, it actually cuts the templates to in between them all.(…) And so they start in the middle and you mark, you get your eye on their center. The eye is perfectly centered for gladiator. And it was for all of them. I have a center marker on the template. You get your first letter and you work your way outwards.(…) So it’s an easy system because with the big cardboard templates, which is what the other competitor uses, if you’re off a little bit at one way or something, if you bump it, whatever, you don’t realize it by the time you go from one end of the tailgate to the other, you could be an inch off, you know, Oh, sure. You can’t adjust it. Well, it’s mine. You can, you start in the middle, you work your way out and if you can move the letter and get it, and so we run a tape line, you put the tape line, as long as the tape is straight, all the letters will be straight. You can work your way out. Oh, it’s really, really easy. People don’t take this into consideration. You can, I mean, you can spend money for something. It’s high quality, so on and so forth. But if you don’t apply it properly, uh, you know, you’ve screwed the pooch and what do you get to pry it off? Start over. I mean, there’s all kinds of issues. So there it’s not just something that’s just, just do it. I mean, people have to be deer detail oriented to be able to do this correctly.(…) Something I’ve noticed that I had a guy, uh, a customer of mine and put one on and made a video of it and a guy comment. He’s like, man, he’s like, that took forever. I use, you know, whatever.(…) And it got me thinking like, what’s, what’s the hurry, you know? Um, well, and that’s a cool thing is, is that it’s going to be on there for a long time. This stuff lasts a long time. Do it right. There’s, there’s no reason to hurry with it. Um, he went, the guy that the customer did, he kind of went overboard and he went crazy with the tape and marked everything, but it turned out perfect. And you know, you don’t really need to do that. Um, but I timed myself, I take the tailgate off for mine. Most of the guys, they do it on the, that’s interesting. Yeah. That’s a good way of doing it because it makes the work area a little easier. You’re on a desk, so everything sits there. It’s not going to fall. Um, people, and you can do them vertically. I’ve done them vertically, you know, on the tailgate with, with the tailgate on. The problem is if you drop one of those letters from three feet up or, you know, if it’s lifted, even though I thought it could chip it, it could crack it. Um, if you already have it peeled off, when butter butter’s always going to go down, you know,
(…)
so it’s a lot easier to take it off. I, when I peel the emblems, when I peel the factory off, uh, I keep it on because you need the torque to build a pole against it. Once it’s clean, it takes it’s, it’s three bolts and a plug. Uh, I can do it myself five minutes, you know, on and off with a tailgate. So I take it off, I lay it down and you can put the letters on top. You can take your time and line them all up and everything. Uh, it’s just that much easier to do it. Uh, but I timed myself from the time I started measuring till the time I was done. It took me 11 minutes and I wasn’t rushing. I was just taking my time, peeling letters, checking them out. Um, you know, I recommend people take a little more time on it. It was mine. So I didn’t care too much if something was off, but it turned out great. So it’s not like it’s a, yeah, you’re not talking to, yeah, like a three or four hour procedure here. Right. It can be done, but he’s like, what’s your, what you’re talking about? You, you get set up for success. You took the tail tailgate off. You were working on it in a nice, I’m sure, well lit area. So it just, uh, was, you were more likely to be successful. Let me, uh, and this is very, this is very selfish of me. Uh, let me work you back to the, uh, the, the Jeep talk show logo that you made. Cause I want to ask some questions about that. And if any of these questions you don’t know to say, uh, just say so. So I can’t tell you that there would be a lot of interest in people buying the, uh, 3d Jeep talk show logos, but let’s say, what if people were interested in, in, in getting these logos, was it something that would be, um, worth your time to do if I was encouraging people that to contact you about the, that, uh, that logo, uh, is that something that you would be interested in, uh, in doing a more than a onesie twosie type thing? Like, I mean, the only downside to this is, is that it’s, it’s gonna, it’s not going to be like we’re ordering 300 and shipping them out. It would be, they would be contacting you paying you and then you would be shipping it to them. So the thing that I, with the way I built my business is I can do small runs of stuff really easy. Um, it’s not like it, it does save a little more time. If I’m doing a few things at a time with engraving, because the way the engraving works, you know, if you’re just doing one versus two, um, or three, you know, the machine’s going back and forth. So, um,(…) but it’s not like it’s a huge difference. Once the artwork is done, the artwork is the tough part. I get people with businesses, they call it, they’re like, Oh, I want an emblem. I’m like, how many do you want? And they’re like, we just want one. Well, I’m going to have two or three hours sometimes, I guess, but into new doing artwork, like your guys’s logo, I re digitized it myself. I actually retype the text and fit it over and stuff. Just like I, I, uh, did a vectorization online, which turns it into vector, but it wasn’t quite clean enough. So I fixed it up a little bit, but by the time I’m big on my artwork, that’s something I know it’s critical. I mean, the whole, the whole thing depends on how accurate everything is. Yeah, absolutely. So once the artworks done, um, it’s not like a big deal to run. If you were like, Hey, I need two of those, you know, I can just throw the stuff in the machine, run a couple. It’s not a real big difference. If, if it was something ongoing, I would probably run five or six of them and just set them in the bin. Yeah. Have them sit right. So let me ask you this, is that, do you think that’s a good size for not, uh, not necessarily it’s because it’s bigger than a trail rated badge. Uh, but would that be something that would fit on the fender of a pretty much any G. So there’s next to a trail rated badge.(…) So not, not too big, you know, a little bit bigger. Um, that’s, I think a perfect size. Let me, let me get that again. Let me change the, uh, the video ankle here so people can see that.
(…)
Well, I personally think you can’t make the Jeep talk show logo big enough. I think, you know, four, four foot by four foot is proper. So yeah, that gives you an idea of the size. So if, if somebody wanted to get two of those, one for each side, maybe just one, but as I say, they wanted to get two of those, what’s up. And this isn’t a quote everybody, but if you have a price in mind, what kind of ballpark price, uh, would it be for the, uh, for the emblems? And I guess, uh, shipping, it just, just depends on where it’s going. Yeah. Well, as far as shipping, I have a few different options on my site. I have like a cheaper one and a more expensive one and a little bit more expensive than that to make it affordable for everybody.(…) If you’re not in a big hurry or anything. Um, but something like that, usually they’re around 25, 30 bucks. Oh God, that’s not hard. I mean, my God, you can spend that much money on stickers really quick. Right. I, and I try and kind of keep in line with, actually I order some stuff from Greg and I was like, man, I need to charge more expensive than mine for this, but he does a real good quality stuff. And I’m, you know, I do good quality stuff. I just, um, I don’t, well, and the difference too is, uh, so like Greg, he does cut or you can do cut vinyl or you can do printed vinyl. The printed vinyl is a lot more expensive because you have to maintain the machine learning versus cut violence. It’s a blade. Right. Well, I can do cut acrylic versus these aren’t printed, but the engraving is similar to that. It takes a lot longer to do. So, you know, engrave things are a little bit more, uh, expensive, even though they’re easier to do, it’s just more machine time. Um, but, but yeah, I try and keep something like that reasonable. You know, I don’t think it needs to be $50. Um, you know, it’s as long as, you know, costs are covered and stuff. Um, I, I tell everybody that I’m, I’m not a laser guy that likes jeeps. I’m a jeeper that got a laser. You know, I enjoy this. I, I really, I love it. It’s something I’ve been doing for 20 some years. I said, I’ve built, you know, tons and tons of jeeps and actually right here before the shop was here, we were building jeeps here. Um, there’s actually where I’m sitting right now, there’s actually still paint on the ground on the cement underneath the tile floor, you know? Um, so, you know, for me, this is, this is fun. And the fact that I get to do it for a living is even better. Oh yeah. Absolutely. With the full-time gig for me, you know, I don’t have. So, um, and I work, I work a lot. People are like, I can’t believe you messaged me back at 2 AM. You know, um, I work easily 12, 14 hours a day. I was just talking to somebody about this the other day. Um, uh, and, uh, I was saying that I really like, uh, when we do these interviews, uh, and I personally like dealing with companies where the person.(…) And quite often they’ve, they started their company in a garage, the garage at their home and they’re just passionate about what they do. And it’s, they’re passionate about what product or products that they came up with. And, uh, I hate it when, where were those businesses sell to a corporation?
(…)
Because it’s like, I don’t feel like I’m getting the same, um, carrying and the same product and stuff. So, uh, I mean, you talk about, you’re not a big corporation to me. That means a lot. It is, as long as the product that I’m getting is high quality, uh, and I can get it within a timely, timely way, then that, that means a lot to me because you’re passionate about what you do. And I think that’s wonderful. All right. I warned you at the start that we were going to get to the part where we had to appease the kids and how they love the social media so they can see those pictures and stuff working, uh, working the kids, find you on social media. Uh, we’re on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, uh, YouTube is more to, um, install videos than that. I don’t have a channel for anything, but, um, and then, uh, Tik TOK we’re pretty much at Gladius off-road on all of them. Took me a while to get it all, to get them all the same, but it’s, uh, uh, at Gladius off-road you can find us pretty much anywhere. Um, uh, we’ve got a shop on Etsy, uh, if that’s more your thing or the website, uh, and we’re on even some on eBay. Um, so we’re kind of all over the place. Uh, I try to try to do my best with that stuff. My daughter, um, is off a little bit and I’ve got a couple. I was going to ask you if you had a 14 year old helping you out with Tik TOK. Uh, she’s, she’s 19 and she’s done a couple. Oh, she’s aged out. She needs. She’s busy. She’s, uh, she’s got her own business as well. So, you know, when I, when I see gops, she’ll step in and run this for me. But, um, uh, you know, she knows, or I guess all the kids, they know more about the social media stuff than I do. So they know the whole trending and all that kind of stuff. So they give me pointers and stuff on that. All right. So guys, you got to go to Gladius off-road.com. Uh, Ryan says custom work. Yes. Uh, Jeep talk show logos, uh, or, or a thumbs up. Yes. Yeah. We can do this for you guys. Great. So you can re contact him and, uh, I’m guessing they’re 25, $30 a piece. Is that what you, what you had said? Um, yeah. Yeah. Plus, plus advertising. Yeah. I’ll talk to you about it. We can figure something out. All right. So, uh, if you’d like to get a Jeep talk show, a 3d Jeep talk show logo for your, uh, for your Jeep, and it doesn’t have to be this for your Jeep. You can put it anywhere, but I think on the fender, uh, driving around with that fender off-road, uh, showing off the Jeep talk show logo is big. The proper thing to do, Ryan, thank you so much for being with us. Uh, continued a good luck and, uh, yeah. Uh, we’ll, we’ll have to have you back, especially when you come out with something new. Yeah. This is, uh, so today is September 12th. The cool thing about this is my licensing was actually completed last year on September 12th. So this is my anniversary of being licensed. Um, so I can see how much it’s grown over the past year. Yeah. So I can’t wait to, you know, come back and see how much it’s grown. I can’t wait to, you know, a couple more years in to see where this is going to go. And like you said, I, I could have a big shop, uh, you know, but I have kids and it’s nice to build it home. We were just talking last night, my wife and I bought it. It’s nice to build to have the kids, uh, come out here. If I need to step in for a minute for her or whatever. Um, you know, I just, I like being around the house and stuff. So it’s wonderful to shop all the time. Yeah. It’s a blessing. Absolute blessing. All right, Ryan, thank you very much and, uh, have a great evening.(…) You as well.
(…)
Hey, big thanks again to Ryan with Gladius off-road. I think I may learn how to actually spell Gladius pretty soon. Um, and, uh, you saw it in the interview. You’ve seen it on a few of our, uh, episodes since then, but, uh, here is one of the, uh, Jeep talk show emblems that he made, and this might actually be the same one that he held up in the interview that you just watched. And of course, if you’re not seeing this emblem and you’re not seeing my face, you’re just hearing my voice. Well, you need to check us out on YouTube. Uh, there’s good reason for that. I’m not initially seeing my face, but, uh, seeing the, uh, the guest interviews, seeing any products that they, uh, they bring up and, uh, and show us the audience, uh, including me. I really enjoy seeing the guests too. Of course, I’ve been seeing the guests all the whole time. It’s only recently that we’ve been doing, uh, putting that video up on YouTube. And, and now that I mentioned that you really should go over to YouTube because, um, I think that you would find, even if you listen to, uh, the show mainly on the audio only, I think you will find, uh, at times that, uh, there’s, uh, there’s guests or episodes that you want to watch and see the reactions and the, uh, the laughter and the shock and horror that go along with some of the episodes that we do. So, uh, I really would like to encourage you to check out our YouTube. Uh, not so much that we’re going to make any money off of it, although that would be nice. Uh, it would just be neat that, uh, since we’re putting forth the effort of putting these videos out, that somebody was watching them and I, and I think you’ll enjoy them if you don’t enjoy them or you don’t, uh, find any, um, uh, any positive, uh, positives about the video, or maybe you have some criticisms of the video. Like, I mean, we’ve put up this, this backboard, uh, and I say we, me, uh, put up this backboard, got all these stickers on there. Uh, a lot of a Jeep talk show team members sent me these stickers, a high lift off road, uh, Natalie. Oh, I actually got the right side. Natalie sent me this one from high lift off road and they’re, you know, their color is blue. So it was really neat that they actually had a red one that she could send me. Um, and of course we have some steer smart stickers. We have this, uh, steer smart, uh, key chain, uh, that, uh, is this really, very quality thing. All the stickers they sent me are just very high quality, large stickers. So, um, if you have a sticker from your company, or maybe you have a personal sticker, uh, from your YouTube channel or whatever it is you’re doing, uh, you should share that with us. Uh, let’s see, am I doing it again? Oh, I did it again. So this is one that I got from a Terry of a Jeep life, the Jeep life podcast. I think this is actually one that he handed to me at EJS, uh, two years ago. Uh, so, uh, we got that one up on the board as well. So I check out our, our YouTube and, uh, it would be really, really nice. And you hear it all the time, uh, to like, subscribe and comment. We love your comments. It’s just so much fun. And speaking of comments, uh, you don’t have to just do it on YouTube. You can go to Jeep talk show.com slash contact and find all the ways to contact us.

All right. So another fun interview and boy, it’s a, it’s a really fun interview when I can get a logo, a cheap talk show logo. That’s, you know, three D and I think I figured out where I’m going to put this. I’m going to put it on the tailgate of the gladiator, the 2021 Jeep talk show gladiator. So, uh, I think that’ll, that’ll be a excellent place for it to see. And, uh, most people that I’m, uh, I’m driving, uh, in traffic with are behind me anyway, right? So that’ll be a good advertisement.

All right. So, uh, as I always like to say, you need to remember that, uh, Fridays are red. We need, need to remember everyone deployed and especially now when things are getting even more serious and, uh, you know, it has to be concerning for the people that are deployed and people in our military service, always support them, thank them for their service. And, um, they’re there to protect us and to do things that, uh, we don’t have to do. Uh, we may be called on to do things, but, uh, right now it’s, uh, the rest of the world, uh, and, uh, Them against our military. I know we have allies, but, uh, you know what I’m saying? Uh, an ally can be an enemy at any, any given moment. So it’s up to our military to protect us and, uh, to protect our country and our interests anyway, remember everyone to deploy it on Fridays and every day. You guys have a great day. Thank you for listening to the show. Broadcasting sense. 2010.
