Jeep continues to flourish … in Iraq

Who was the actor that was very popular in Germany?

David Hasselhoff?  The knight rider driver, Baywatch babe…

Well Jeep sales are doing well in Iraq!

From Baghdad News (IraqiNews.com) – With year-to-date (YTD) sales up 10%, Jeep is continuing its remarkable rise throughout the Middle East, partly due to the popularity of its top-selling vehicles, the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Wrangler.

In Iraq, the Jeep Grand Cherokee is currently ranked second in the SUV market. Corporate clients are drawn to the Grand Cherokee; at the moment, Jeep is in fleet negotiations with a number of well-known companies in the Middle East, notably Iraq.

With a 12% year-to-date growth in sales, the Jeep Wrangler has also produced impressive results. It is one of the industry leader in off-road vehicles and has a devoted following throughout the Middle East.

We continue our tips for newbies, new and old.  Just because you have a Jeep doesn’t mean you know these things.

Spotter

You’ve probably heard the term spotter, you may even have a sense of what it means, luckily we have a spotter right here on the show!

Will My Jeep Fit?

Your Jeep fitting in your garage, home, or parking at work, is a legitimate concern.  You can lift and make enough modifications that may mean your Jeep is now a “park outside” vehicle.

At least in Houston, I have found that just because the commercial parking garage may say 6 foot 6 inches, that is the lowest point in the parking garage.  This low point may have nothing to do with where you’re driving.  It’s a low-hanging pipe near a parking spot.

If you really want to park your Jeep in your home garage, keep in mind that lift size, tire size, or items you may want to mount to the top of your Jeep (rooftop tent) may be a rude awakening when you try to park your Jeep.

Topless, but what if it rains?

This is a legitimate concern.  If you go completely topless, carry your soft top with you.  Yes, it may get stolen, doubtful, but possible.  Do you only have a hard top?  Hard to take that with you.  There are covers that you can carry with you.  Perhaps you’re staying overnight at a hotel, or a long way from home (where your top is).  Getting the carpet wet in your Jeep will be smelly!  You may not know that your Jeep has plugs on the floor that you can open and drain out water that has collected around your feet.

You can replace your carpet that doesn’t absorb the water and creates mold and a really bad smell.  Armorlite is very nice and fits this bill.

You still need to be concerned about the electronics in the dash.  A company named “Dash Pancho” will allow you to quickly cover your dash and save your entertainment/navigation equipment.

Snow tires.  If you are planning on any snowwheeling this winter, what is your tire of choice?

There are many to pick from, are you going with MT or AT tires?

Snow and ice change everything, not to mention your contact patch.

So let’s start with those MT’s, and that doesn’t stand for mud terrain. It stands for maximum traction,  the big cleats in your tires may not give you the siphoning you need on the snow and ice.

You will find that just like sand, taking those tires down to those single digits on pressure is where you might need to be, that’s if you are willing to risk not having bead lock rims.  If you’re running them you can go down to near zero.

On the road, there are many options for snow tires, but those don’t typically work on the trail. So what are you running?
