Episode 996 – Life’s a Beach!
2024 Special Edition Jeeps
In a Car and Driver story Jeep is offering 500 copies of a beach-style Jeep. Two of them, one a 4xe Wrangler and a Gladiator. 250 Gladiator so a total of 750 special Jeeps!
It’s interesting that with the poor sales of Gladiators, Jeep is willing to produce a special version. Don’t get me wrong, I think they should, I love my Gladiator and I’d buy it again.
I find this interesting, these 750 special Jeeps will only be available for order in specific southeastern states, such as Florida! Hey, Texas has a beach! No california? This makes sense to me since they don’t like ICE vehicles there.
You’ll get Willys trim level for both models. Each comes with a body-color hardtop (headliner included), the Sunrider Fliptop that features a foldable cloth section over the front-seat passengers, and decals that let everyone know it’s a Beach edition.
Other standard gear on the special editions includes 32-inch mud-terrain tires (Gladiators) or 33-inch all-terrain tires (Wranglers), a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, adaptive cruise control, LED front lighting, and steel rock rails. Every version also features Mopar Katzkin leather seats that are embroidered with “Jeep Beach.”
The special edition jeeps will start at 62,290 and 52,390, 4xe and Gladiator.
Rented Jeep and a Cliff
This is an update to a story we reported on Tuesday’s flagship episode. A Canadian in Hawaii drove a rented Jeep off a cliff winding up in the ocean.
In a story from AP, the tourist was driving early morning very dark when he took a wrong turn and landed head-first into the ocean. He was able to swim to shore and waited there until emergency services pulled him up with a rope and a helicopter.
The man was treated for facial injuries and hypothermia.
The road is very dangerous at this location. The road turns from a major paved surface to dirt. Within 100 feet it gets steep and then there is the edge of the cliff.
The rescue took 16 people and many resources.
This area is a popular spot for fishing and tourists. I’m thinking it might be cheaper to put up a sign then the use of a helicopter, and vehicle recovery.
Jeep Talk Show Gladiator Update
What do you think about sun, or moon tops on a Jeep? I like to say things are “Jeepy” or not. Do you think this isn’t Jeepy?
Greg Henderson, the friend of the show and owner of Unofficial Use Only, says “Be a man and take the top off!” on a recent Round Table episode.
Are you a man? What do you think about a see-through freedom top where you can stay warm or cool?
We’ll through a series of circumstances I’ll be finding out! JeeTops has sent me a set of demo freedom tops to take to EJS 2024.
Chris, the owner of Jeetops, jeetops.com, was asked if they would be going to EJS this year. No, but he had some demo tops that he could send to us to have fun with.
Demo freedom tops? Sure sounds like a good idea, but kind of an expensive idea. Well, what if the demo tops you couldn’t or wouldn’t sell.
These tops were damaged while they were in a FedEx truck. They were on the way to the customer when the FedEx vehicle came under fire! The bullet struck the truck, the Jeetop box, and exited the other side of the truck!
Chris says they fixed the holes. They did a good job and it doesn’t take away from the joy of having the increased visibility of the Jeep.
Chris included the Tesla curtain so if we want to block the light coming in, we can.
Initially, I wasn’t overly excited by JeeTops but it increased after interviewing Chris and finding out just how much engineering and material selection was done.
I’ve got to say these Jeetops are amazing. Makes the 2021 Jeep Talk Show Gladiator feel completely different and I’m excited to have them at EJS this year.
Going to EJS, find me, and see the JeeTops for yourself! I think you’ll be impressed.
