A Show About Jeeps!

Episode 508 – Close Calls and Quick Fists

This Week In Jeep

East Coast Jeepers Cant Drive

After last week’s story of a wrong turn leading to a six-hour subway shut down because someone decided to drive their Jeep through a clearly marked streetcar tunnel and onto the tracks, I didn’t think we’d see a story topping that level of bad driving so quickly.

Yet here we are.

And once again it’s a Jeeper from the east side of the country… what are y’all doing over there on the east coast anyway? This time, in New Jersey, a homeowner got quite the surprise when an out-of-control Jeep careened through four fences, and two backyards before splashing down in his swimming pool Monday afternoon. Ya know, I like to go for a swim every now and again as much as the next Jeeper, but I usually opt to get out of the Jeep first. The late-model Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling northbound on Roosevelt Avenue in Laurel Springs when the driver crashed into a parked vehicle, lost control, drove through the two backyards, and ended up submerged in a pool. Talk about a bad day getting worse. According to the released report, the driver managed to get out of the Jeep before first responders arrived, escaping with only minor injuries.

No other injuries were reported. What followed was another strange scene as a crane lifted the Jeep out of the water, from the front of the house, lifted it up and over the house, through the yard, back to the front of the house, and onto a waiting tow truck.

The crash remains under investigation. If anyone witnessed the crash or has any information related to it please contact the Gloucester Township Police Department.

Split Second Decision Saves Jeep And Lives

The close call happened on Monday at Northgate Boulevard and Voyager Parkway on the northside of Colorado Springs. The driver said he only had a split second to make a choice, either run a red light and stop the runaway vehicle or just sit and watch what would happen next.

He chose to act.

Bobby Sorden is being called a hero for what he did, and his dashcam caught the whole thing. We will have a link to that video in the show notes for this episode at Jeeptalkshow.com. An RV was flat-towing a Jeep Wrangler and making a left turn across the intersection Bobby was sitting at. The RV completed the turn, but not before the Jeep broke off the back of the RV and just kept rolling through the intersection and into an oncoming lane of traffic, up a hill. Bobby violently honked his horn trying to get the attention of the RV driver, but that didn’t work, and the RV kept going. That’s when Bobby took action.
He gunned it, speeding through the intersection and running the red light… he slammed the car into the park just behind the Jeep as it started rolling back down the hill, back towards the busy intersection. Bobby then hopped out of his own car and ran to the driver’s side of the Jeep. He recalled the first thoughts going through his head at that moment and prayed that the driver’s side door of the Jeep that was now starting to roll backward, was unlocked.

It was.

Bobby ripped the door open, jumped in the driver’s seat, and hit the brakes.

The quick-thinking by Bobby’s family didn’t stop there. Bobby’s wife jumped into the driver’s seat of their vehicle and took off! She started driving in the direction the RV had gone. Their kids were in the back seat and spotted the RV just a few blocks away.

The people in the RV had no clue where their Jeep was but knew something had happened to it. After everything was all said and done, the only damage was a broken tow hitch. Bobby knows he may have broken the law by running a red light, but it is obvious he likely prevented something much worse from happening by doing so.

The Colorado  Springs Police Department of course has issued Bobby a citation for the moving violation through the mail. I’M KIDDING!

Jeep Talk Show Gladiator Update

Last week I told you about the Motobilt Crusher Rear Bumper I purchased for the 2021 Jeep Talk Show Gladiator.  This past weekend I prepped, primed, painted, and installed the bumper. For those of you that follow JTS on Facebook, Instagram, and now TicTok you already have seen the progress and installation of the bumper.  Wow-what a beautiful bumper.  If you’re like me you are concerned about using a new company.  You can look up reviews of course, but you never really know until you get it.  I can say that I am personally very impressed with the build quality of the Motobilt bumpers and just how heavy duty both the crusher stubby front bumper and crusher rear bumper are.

In my posts about the rear bumper, I received a surprise!  Rob “Bender” Park commented a thank you when I mentioned how beautiful the bumper was.

Bender, one of the ones that started King of the Hammers, was one of the four hosts on “Truck Night in America”.

Come to find out Bender built my bumpers!  I haven’t kept in touch with Bender after our last interview, which was episode 327.  Bender also filled in when we were scheduled to interview another Truck Night in America host, and off-road racer, Pete Sohren when he passed away in an off-road accident.
