Grand Cherokee Recall

Fiat Chrysler has a long history of bad software.

But even after joining (or being taken over by) French automaker PSA to form Stellantis, the now French-Italo-American automaker still hasn’t sorted out all of its software-related woes. The latest development in this regard concerns (once again) the five-seat Grand Cherokee and seven-seat Grand Cherokee L. Some of these Jeeps were produced with an incorrect configuration parameter in the software for the hazard lights during brake application. Because again, we need software to control something as simple as the hazards. If the hazard lights flash when the brake pedal is applied, the vehicle automatically fails to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108. In the real world, this condition may confuse other drivers, potentially causing a serious crash on the highway. The supplier of the iffy software and body control module is Continental Teves AG & Co. oHG of Frankfurt, a company that has gotten a lot of attention for its tremendously bad software in automotive applications. Customers and dealers alike will be informed of the recall on July 1st, and the fix comes in the guise of a software update for the module.

More Karma For a Teen In An XJ

A few episodes back we had a story about a kid in an XJ doing doughnuts on a lawn and getting a dose of instant karma. This week we have another such story. A young man in an XJ doing things he wasn’t supposed to. This time it was the lawn of a CHURCH that this Jeeper decided was a good place to get the Jeep loose in. The event was posted on Facebook, not live… someone saw the carnage and posted about it. Members of the community were also stopping by the church in the afternoon to see what happened the night before. Security cameras caught the vehicle in the act, and images were posted to social media as well. According to the Putnam County Sheriff Bobby Eggelton, the young man that did it, actually called in to speak to confess. After talking with the young man, he reached out to the church to see if they were open to taking this in another direction. He said in a situation like this, it can be made right outside of the justice system. “This kid made a mistake,” Eggelton said. “He’s being a kid, not to justify being a kid being destructive, but we also don’t want to put a criminal record (on him).”

The church agreed with the sheriff and will be working to find a way to make things right.

Forbes Thinks They Know What’s Best For Jeep Wranglers

A division of Forbes, which is a global media company, focusing on business, investing, technology, entrepreneurship, leadership, and lifestyle and known for their magazines has just released the list of what they think are the best tires for the Jeep Wrangler.

And the only reason I’m even mentioning it is for the conversation we’re about to have.

It’s going to come as no surprise that we here at the Jeep Talk Show have a bias toward a certain brand and model of tire that for some inexplicable reason didn’t make it to this list. So without further adieu… let’s hear what a business magazine thinks what’s best for your Jeep.

BF Goodrich T/A KO2: Best All-Terrain Jeep Tire

Falken Wildpeak A/T3W : Best Stock Jeep Tire for the Rubicon

Michelin Defender LTX M/S: Best Highway Jeep Tire

Nitto Trail Grappler M/T: Best Jeep Tire for the Rubicon Xtreme Recon

Pro Comp Xtreme MT2 Radial: Best Extreme Lift All-Terrain Jeep Tire
