Automaker Stellantis has restructured its executive team as it works to revitalize flagging sales. Changes include the appointment of new heads for the company’s Jeep, Peugeot and DS Automobiles brands, as well streamlining software operations. The shakeup comes just months after former CEO Carlos Tavares was forced out of the company due to declining market share and controversial cost-cutting measures. Stellantis said it will name a new permanent CEO in the first half of this year.
Bob Broderdorf “Bob Jeep Bro”
Today, I am honored to step into the role of chief executive officer for the Jeep brand. Leading a brand with such a rich history is both a privilege and a responsibility. It demands a deep respect for its legacy and values and a vision for its future.
The “Levi’s Jeep” refers to a special edition of Jeep vehicles that were produced in collaboration with Levi Strauss & Co., known for their Levi’s denim. Here’s an overview:
Models:
CJ-5 and CJ-7: The most famous Levi’s editions were the CJ-5 and CJ-7 models from the late 1970s. These were part of Jeep’s special sales order (SSO) packages.
Jeep J10 Pickup: Another model that received the Levi’s treatment was the Jeep J10 Honcho, which came with denim-like seat coverings.
Features of the Levi’s Jeep:
Interior: The standout feature was the interior, which included denim-like seat covers with Levi’s branded buttons, mimicking the look of actual Levi’s jeans. The pattern was often tan or blue denim, with copper rivets similar to those on Levi’s pants.
Exterior: These Jeeps typically came with specific decals, including the Levi’s logo alongside the Jeep logo, and sometimes special color schemes or paint jobs to match the denim theme.
Badging: A Levi’s badge was placed prominently on the vehicle, usually near the Jeep logo on the side or on the dashboard.
Significance:
Cultural Impact: The collaboration was part of a trend where automotive manufacturers would partner with fashion or lifestyle brands to create unique, themed vehicles. It was especially popular during the 1970s when denim was a significant fashion statement.
Rarity: Levi’s Edition Jeeps are now considered collectible due to their unique features and limited production numbers.
Well-maintained or restored examples can command higher prices among collectors.
Performance: While the Levi’s edition was more about appearance than performance, the vehicles were based on standard Jeep models, so they retained the off-road capabilities of the CJ series or J10.
Notable Points:
Not Just for Show: Despite the denim interior, these Jeeps were still built for off-road use, though owners might be more cautious about exposing the unique upholstery to harsh conditions.
Legacy: The Levi’s Jeep editions are remembered as one of the more quirky and distinctive collaborations in Jeep’s history, adding a slice of Americana to the rugged Jeep brand.
Collectors’ Interest: Today, these vehicles are sought after by collectors, especially those who appreciate the nostalgia and uniqueness of themed vehicles from that era.
If you’re looking for more in-depth information or specifics on particular models, years, or features, further research into Jeep enthusiast forums, historical car websites, or contacting Jeep clubs might provide additional insights.
On a side note; Today levis is the most popular blue jean, while wrangler is the 2nd.
