Jeep Talk Show

A Show About Jeeps!

Episode 1038 – Mods Make Hard to Service?

Toyota’s Little Truck

$10k Truck?!?!?  On a recent Round Table, most Zoomers agreed.  Jeep isn’t making a little off-road Jeep.  A Toyota isn’t a Jeep, but if Toyota can figure it out and think they have a market for it, what about Jeep?

No screens, no radio, no tachometer.  Almost no interior switches, but that makes sense when there’s nothing to turn on or off.

This sounds a lot like my first 4×4 a 1983 Chevy SWB Silverado!  No, it didn’t have a radio in it either, and it was $10k!  I know that was like a billion years ago.

You can add to it, increasing costs, but if all you need is a little truck to do truck stuff wouldn’t this be a great alternative to a $50k truck?

Come on Jeep make the little ShortCut as seen in the 2016 EJS Concept Vehicle.

Jeep Weekend?

I’ve always heard it called Go Topless Day.  In fact we interviewed Jean of allthingsjeep.com in May of 2017 on Jeep Talk Show call-in show episode 39.  A year later GoTopless day and allthingsjeep.com was purchased by extremeterrain.com.

Norm and Jean Wnuk of All Things Jeep established Jeep Go Topless Day on May 3, 2008, to celebrate the start of spring after a harsh New England winter. The first event was a small gathering of Jeep owners at a local farm and ice cream stand, but the event has since grown to include more than 150 events and over 20,000 Jeeps worldwide.

The local ABC affiliate reports that due to years of “Jeep weekend” chaos some businesses will be closed this Jeep weekend.  I attended one Gotopless day, in 2018.  There are more vehicles there than Jeeps.  Side by sides, full-sized bro-dozers, etc…  Keep that in mind when you see reports of misbehaved “Jeepers” on GoTopless day.

If you’re in the SE Texas area I would recommend staying away from Crystal Beach.  Check with local Jeep people to find the more “tame” family-friendly areas to go to.

Now if you want a show, you can find that too, just take a trauma kit with you. lol

Jeep Talk Show Gladiator Update

Thanks to two trips from Houston to Moab the 2021 Jeep Talk Show Gladiator now has 22k miles on it. That’s 1,200 miles from Studio A to Moab and back times 2.  That’s 4,800 miles of the 22k!

Driving the Gladiator to and from was amazing.  It was made better with a co-driver, my wife, for EJS 2024.  Sharing the amazing sites, and meeting the Jeep Talk Show team members and listeners with my wife was fantastic.

I need to check, but the oil change time is coming up.  To maintain 100k warranty coverage I have to have a shop change the oil.  I’ve been going to Gillman near Beltway 8, actually, it’s very close to Greg’s shop Underground Graphics.

I recently tried to purchase a Baxter Performance oil filter adapter to help prolong the life of the 3.6 in the Glad.  Check out issues kept it from happening, and eventually, I gave up, but if I had purchased it what difficulties would I have had with the dealership?

I can see the tech standing there with a standard filter trying to figure out where he’s supposed to stick it.

There is also a skid system on the Gladiator now, although I think this one will be easier to figure out.  Four counter-sunk bolts and the plate covering the oil pan drain hole are uncovered.  Will they put it back?

No, I don’t think the mechanics are stupid, but I do believe they are used to doing things the same way every day and when Jeep mods come into play it could cause things to be missed.

I believe many Jeeps are modified and taken in for service, but aren’t most mods wheels, tires, lift and maybe steering?

Have you had any issues where your Jeep mods caused problems during servicing?

Must-Have Stuff for Your Jeep!

This is not the first time we’ve suggested this to our Jeep Talk Show listeners.  The Baxter Performance Cartridge to Spin-On Oil Filter Adapter – JT/JL/JK 2014+ 3.6L

This helps stop DRY starts on your 3.6.

Cartridge Filters have no anti-drain back valve. This product provides faster oil pressure at startup by keeping the upper oil system flooded. The adapter contains a full-flow check valve and a unique threaded locking mechanism. Utilizes Schrader valve for oil evacuation when removing spin-on filter.

When I was looking for the best price on this unit I found it at Brad’s TrailRecon site.  Normally $341.96, TrailRecon had it for $325.00 and free shipping!
