Episode 949 – Jeep Passes Away!
2024 Jeep Compass Gains More Sophisticated Driver Assistance Tech In Europe
The updated Level 2 Autonomous Driving system now works on all types of roads
The second generation of the Compass has been in production since 2016, and Jeep continues to keep it up to date with frequent updates. In 2024, the EU-spec Compass is set to receive a new set of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), which will expand its semi-autonomous driving capabilities. The European version of the SUV is exclusively offered with electrified powertrains, including the e-Hybrid and the more powerful 4Xe PHEV.
According to the automaker, the Compass now offers more than 80 safety and security features. Just to name a few, the collection includes Drowsy Driver Detection, Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking, Pedestrian/Cyclist Automatic Emergency Braking, Active Lane Management, and Rear Cross Path detection.
The lineup has been simplified for 2024 and now includes four trims – Altitude, Summit, Overland, and Trailhawk. The latter retains its off-road-focused appearance while adding more generous standard equipment. Finally, there is a trio of optional packages – the safety, premium, and winter packs (the premium pack adds the updated Level 2 Autonomous Drive system).
Level 2 autonomy is mostly where we’re at today: computers take over multiple functions from the driver – and are intelligent enough to weave speed and steering systems together using multiple data sources.
Level 3 – Drives itself, but needs attentive driver monitoring
Level 4 – Driverless in controlled areas
Jeep passes away!
Lawrence ‘Jeep’ Garono of Pennsylvania passed away on December 3rd. He was born in 1943. Jeep was his nickname, and so much a part of who he was it was used in his obituary.
Lawrence, ‘Jeep’ was just 3 years younger than the first Jeeps built! Could this have had something to do with his nickname?
Did you know Lawrence? Maybe you can tell us more about his nickname of “Jeep”
Chuck, you are a huge Jeep, the vehicle, fan. Did you consider naming one, or both of your son’s Jeep?
Friend of the show Dan from the 4×4 Podcast youngest son is CJ. Come on Chuck what’s the deal?
Jeep Talk Show Gladiator Update
I interviewed Todd at trailsoffroad.com, an off-road mapping system for your Jeep and more. He told us about getting the TrailsOffroad software running on UConnect through Carplay and Android Auto.
It is currently available on Carplay and should be out on Android Auto very soon. Recently they, and Jeep, announced that Trailsoffroad is built into the UConnect system for the 2024 Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator.
I thought to myself, how cool would it be to buy a new Jeep and have a SHOW about Jeeps built into it?
As my wife would say, Tony wake up! Well, there’s more than one way to skin a cat. The Jeep Talk Show is available on Spotify! Shirley Spotify should run on Android Auto. NOPE!
This is where the Internet comes in for workarounds. A pretty simple, 5 step process, and wala! I now have Spotify on my dash!
