Jeep Talk Show

A Show About Jeeps!

Episode 827 – A Cheaper Jeep Wrangler?

2024 Jeep Wrangler Cheaper?

Jeep Wrangler 4xe gets a price cut for 2024

The starting price for the 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Willys is unchanged from 2023, at $56,530 with destination. The new Sport S base model starts at $51,790, making the entry-level 2024 Wrangler 4xe $4,740 cheaper than 2023. Granted, the Sport S 4xe still costs $10,600 more than a non-hybrid Sport S model.

That said, the Wrangler 4xe is eligible for a $3,750 EV tax credit under Clean Vehicle Credit rules that, for eligibility, also require a sticker price of $80,000 or less and upper limits for household income.

Fuel economy and electric range should be the same for all 4xe models. EPA ratings for the 2024 Wrangler 4xe haven’t been published yet, but the 2023 model had 22 miles of electric range with an efficiency rating of 49 MPGe, with just 20 mpg combined on gasoline. Even that capability proved unreliable in a recent cold weather test of a Rubicon 4xe.

Police notified of fake Edmonds (Washington) officer, pulling people over in a black Jeep

A man dressed as law enforcement and with lights and sirens on his car has been pulling people over in a black Jeep and saying he’s an Edmonds police officer, according to the Edmonds Police Department.

The Edmonds Police Department said the man is not an officer and the department does not have a black Jeep.

A victim told police they were on the side of Talbot Road when a black Jeep with lights and sirens pulled in behind him. The man allegedly had a vest that said “Sheriff” and said he was an EPD officer. When questioned, the man got back in his Jeep and left.

The EPD said if you see this car, call 911.

Adding, “We would like to give them the chance to sit in the back of a real EPD patrol vehicle….”

Mentoring

I love the Jeeping world; there is so much knowledge out there, sometimes not so good, but mostly really good information. As we wheel more we gain experience and I feel it’s part of our job to pass that info along when someone is new or perhaps isn’t aware. Being a mentor is not an easy task. It does take patience and it’s not for everyone.

Mentoring is being able to help that newbie at their level of understanding.  Not just “telling” the newbie what they need to do, but rather helping them to understand why they need to do something. We run into this all the time teaching and leading runs. I’ve learned over the years that people, in general, learn several ways; some by doing, some by reading about it and some by listening, and others by a combination of all these.

We had a Club run down in the desert at Cougar Buttes a few months back – Eddie L ( a JTS listener) joined us – he was on the JTS Big Bear run last year and we have remained friends since.

As we all were lined up and airing down at the trailhead, a gentleman in a 4xe jeep stopped and asked what we were doing.  I told him it was a club run and he asked if he could join us.

I took a look at his almost brand new stock Jeep and said sure, not sure your Jeep is set up for this run today, however, there are bypasses and you can join us and watch. (Black diamond trails)

As a mentor, It’s really important to be open to someone you don’t know joining the run.

We parked his jeep at the first obstacle, he jumped in our jeep and proceeded to travel with us for the day. He got to see what jeepers do and also how we had so much fun.

At the end of the run, I suggested that when he was ready we would be happy to get him on the trail and teach him what his jeep can do. He actually contacted us (Trails 411) and he got a full day of off-roading training and he is hooked. So nice to meet you Clete E.

The cool thing is you never know who you may meet and what impact you can have on someone. Had we said NO to his joining, we would have lost an opportunity to work with him and get him involved in the off-roading world.

So just remember, even though all the experienced listeners know a lot, it’s never a bad thing to help someone new and share your knowledge and experience.

We need more mentors to help keep the Jeep life alive and thriving.

Jeep Talk Show Gladiator Update

Oil Change

I recently had the oil changed in the 2021 Jeep Talk Show Gladiator.  Just a couple of days ago.

I forgot to connect up the sway bar before taking it to the Jeep dealership.  I warned them.  I figured it would be fine on the lift, but…

The last oil change was in September 2022.  It’s at 17,000 miles now and this is the 3rd oil change.

I had the tires rotated, but I didn’t see the tires/wheels come off.

Did you know there is a recall on Cherokee cat converters?  I asked about an exhaust repair that was going on in the shop.

I thought the new Cherokee was closer to the XJ due to what I thought might be a cracking exhaust manifold!
